They'll be joined by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens who both worked with Jackson in adapting the screenplay for the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well. http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/08/20/peter-jackson-and-guillermo-del-toro-writing-hobbit-themselves/ I was wondering what the fantasy gamer community thought about this news, seeing as how well received the LotR movies were. Does the addition of director del Toro add to the vision of Middle Earth that Jackson presented, or does his fantastical visions as shown in movies like Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy 2 mean that we should strap in for something completely over the top this time around? For that matter, should The Hobbit, which has always been seen more as a childrens book than the Rings trilogy was have more flights of fancy and wonder in it than the Rings movies did? I look forward to your esteemed views on this matter. Cheers! |

I liked Hellboy, but Pan's Labyrinth blew me away. (He's also helping Neil Gaiman with his Death: the high Cost of Living movie.) With the original team from LOTR all together for writing the screenplay, and Toro's awesome visual style, I think the Hobbit will become a more adult movie. I doubt we will see anything Lovecraftian in the Hobbit movie. ;) I look forward to seeing this when it comes out in a few years. |
