Traffic is stopped. Why? Police where trying to talk a woman out of jumping off a bridge. The stopped traffic of course frustrated commuters so some called into their local radio station and requested Van Halen's Jump. Of course some find the DJ playing the song to be insensitive  but as police say she couldn't have heard the song and so it didn't influence he decision to jump.

Yeah it's kinda funny. [linky]

Had a similar experience here.
We were in the traffic jam caused by this guy that wanted to jump over the bridge, in the river.
Well, after 5 minutes there were at least a dozen people out of their cars screaming at the guy to jump and get it over with.
I mean, poor woman/guy... must be trully disturbed to get to that point. But, why inflict your pain on others? You won't get much sympathy that way.

The song's a bad joke, but it's still ok I think.

I am not sure whether to laugh or cry.

Laugh it off...  Too much things in life to make you cry.

People are fighting each and every day to survive, be it against illness, poverty or what else.
That some people chose to end their life voluntarily, I cannot understand but I consider this a personal thing and I can accept.

That you chose to end your life in a way that negatively impact others? That I cannot accept. So I say: jump and be done with it. The rest of us have the right to enjoy life.

Best would be to be able to prevent it before it happens.

That's a pretty somber {if not intense} attitude. I approve.

Excellent.

I'm truly disgusted.  Of all the nasty, horrible things a person could do ...  I mean, why on earth would anyone request that song?  Ever?  Van Halen sucks and that song is one of the worst ever recorded.  Think of all those poor ears trapped in immobile cars and forced to suffer through that awful track.  This DJ should be fired - as well as any other DJ that played that pitiful excuse for music at any point in their careers.  Sick bastard ...

People are too sensitive.

I would like to tell you how I really feel, but I am trying to stay off the banned wagon for a while...

Once the wrong people dislike you, it becomes almost commonplace...

So is not taking a joke well and then reporting it out of spite.

Only for brats who keep derailing threads.

I'd find this idea (of playing "Jump") distasteful, but we're talking about British, right? I know I bring up national stereotypes much too often, but I think it's just British sense of humour, even if this particular occurrence was horrible.

(All British are secretly eeeevil)

One of the local DJ's really likes VH. Of course he also gets the lowest ratings on the station he's on. I think I may now know why...

Playing a song like Jump or a song that has "jumping" as a theme is just something with a cool sense of humor would play in this situation. It's not just a british thing.

Boo.  That's a bad OTTer.  Bad!

I did like the Hot for Teacher vid when I was a kid, though.  Kids tend to have terrible taste and I was no exception.  ;)

I can't listen to anything at the bar...without local rock radio 'parroting' it.  Even when I explain to the entire bar, this will happen and I have no control over it...

They will still do it, because they don't think it's wrong.  (Content Removed by ORC_Chaos)

I never have a problem with strong feelings people have for their music, the Fanboys make the world go around...just as long as they bring their disposable income.

What I don't like...is the leverage some musicians use 'against' me in the name of entertainment (and wealth).  That's when my strong feelings step in, and deposit $5 into the jukebox so the bar doesn't have to listen to it.

Nah.  It's a painting.  Someone PM'd me the link guessing I'd like it.  It fits so well I had to make it my avvy.
