So I think I'm finally going to break down and get a kilt1.  Major ones I'm looking at is either a Utilikilt or a Amerikilt2.  Are there any other modern kilt manufacturers?
________
1Sorry HS, while I do want some minimalist shoes one day3, I've wanted a kilt for much longer.  So when I brooched the subject with the SO of me dropping a large chunk of change on speciality shoes I figured "why not go for the kilt instead?"
2So far the Utilikilt is winning me over... more pockets, a more attractive (to me) design, and a more amusing company.
3... and now I want to go rock climbing with minimalist shoes, a kilt, a bola tie, and nothin' else.

I have a kilt-ish thing (it's an authentic looking fake Tongue out) but I really only wear it on festivals. There's still plenty of manufacterors though. Fantasy Fairs often sell lots of them. Unfortunately the only shops I know that sell them are Dutch, though.

A utilikilt would be ideal, imho.  Any way you go, you may want to wear undies underneath for the sake of being sanitary, as well as decorum.  If you insist on going commando, then you might consider bifurcation snaps, again for the sake of decorum.

Not to worry bud, I'm sure eventually you'll get the toe-shoes. As for kilts, there is always Sportskilt. Some long distand runners like them for running in the woods. Utilikilt is also a really good brand. They have very cool stuff. What kind of activities do you plan on doing while wearing your kilt (besides the climbing)?

At the moment?  Rock-climbing, airports1, and general "outdoorsy" stuff that doesn't neceistate full pants2.  Leaning towards the basic utilikilt.

1Seriously, if they want to pat me down, I can take a kilt off in a snap3.  Easier for everyone involved, I think.
2Like, say, SCA fighter practice.  I want pants between armor and my leg, thank you very much.
3Ha!  See what I did there?

Don't forget the hat and to post pics. You'll be the manliest man ever this day. You may achieve Nirmana.

Kilts don't have pockets. A kilt with pockets is called a "skirt".

The Scotsman

Well a Scotsman clad in kilt left a bar on evening fair
And one could tell by how we walked that he drunk more than his share
He fumbled round until he could no longer keep his feet
Then he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street
Ring ding diddle diddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street

About that time two young and lovely girls just happend by
And one says to the other with a twinkle in her eye
See yon sleeping Scotsman so strong and handsome built
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt
Ring ding diddle diddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt

They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman quiet as could be
Lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see
And there behold, for them to see, beneath his Scottish skirt
Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth
Ring ding diddle diddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth

They marveled for a moment, then one said we must be gone
Let's leave a present for our friend, before we move along
As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon, tied into a bow
Around the bonnie star, the Scots kilt did lift and show
Ring ding diddle diddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
Around the bonnie star, the Scots kilt did lift and show

Now the Scotsman woke to nature's call and stumbled towards a tree
Behind a bush, he lift his kilt and gawks at what he sees
And in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes.
O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize
Ring ding diddle diddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize

haven't seem live, but they indeed got good music (I use them for my 7th Sea RPG as background music)

> Kilts don't have pockets.
