It's true. China and N. korea are the happiest places ever. I found the actual survey used.

Absolutely ridiculous.
But then again, every reasonable, intelligent, and rational person would agree.

Has anyone seen the National Geographic Explorer documentary Inside North Korea?  I saw it some months ago, but there was one scene I remember in particular:  the film crew is allowed to film inside a typical citizen's house.  There are only pictures of Kim Jong Il and his late father upon the walls, including a rather hilarious poster from one of Kim Jong Il's movies.  There are no pictures of family for example.  Perhaps the secret of happiness is not having unhappy as an option.

It appears the full-length video is available on youtube:

It is also available streaming on netflix.

I have to wonder why it is admitted that China is number one in happiness?

You really don't know?
It's a Communist Paradise, a literal utopia.

I should have realised...

My bizarre capitalist notions assumed that giving China two more percentage points on the happiness index might be associated with essential food and fuel aid.Smile

China = Happiest Place On Earth = The Magic Kingdom?...

If Walt Disney's frozen severed head is running things over there, it would certainly explain a lot...

Does it state anywhere how they determine the happiness-index?

If it did, would you believe it?

Well, if they give the criteria it might very well be that China and North-Korea truly come out at the top of the list, with the US at the bottom.

I'm just curious what kind of happiness they are measuring. Whether it'd make me attach any kind of value to their determination is a completely different thing.
