Wrong. Gygax is so awesome that even on a 1 he'd make whatever he was trying to do. So someone gave him a cursed 21 sided die that had a 0 on it, knowing he'd eventually roll that accursed number.

I like it, but I have to nitpick the last line.

Not sure I like that either. The meter of the last line seems forced even when using iambic variations.

I also feel the first line might be better if we knew so many of what in your past. People? Jerks? Heroes?

All told, a nice dedication to a good man.
