I know this is my first post here... but I have been playing D&D since 1979 and have two kids that both play. My daughter being the creative type has created a D&D version of Lady Gaga's Poker Face.
Anyone who plays D&D will appreciate the humor here.

She has posted it on her site ... www.blueinthefacemovietalks.com/ embedded in her movie review of The Sorcerer's Apprentice
and on youtube as a stand alone flash video www.youtube.com/user/eyesofviolet#p/u/u-...

Fair enough.

I couldn't understand some of the lyrics.

Just like Lady Gaga.

(I totally need subtitles on everything)

I do like parodies.

Set it to Polka next time, she'll be a star!

Lots of people.  Especially teenage girls.  Like this guy's daughter.

Not you.  Not me.

To me she's just another in a long line of mindless pop icons.  And an illuminati puppet of course.

As far as entertainers go, she's pretty good.  Socially conscious, climbed her way to the top by hard work not a lucky streak on a show, cares about her parents, actually sings her songs (that is, doesn't lip sync), is nice to small kids, and dresses like a super villain on day-time talk shows.

What's not to like?

I just wonder why people think that what she has to say is more important than what they themselves, or other people, think... like her opinion actually means something... or is important...

I couldn't care any less than I already do about anything Lady Gaga has to say about anything...

I think the question is about how famous people use their fame to convey meeningful information.

That's just the point.
They don't convey meaningful information.

But boy! They sure act like they do!
#10

EscherEnigma

Aug 08, 2010 0:11:57
Hrm... where do you draw the line at meaning?  Is it only meaningful if you value the message?  If Oprah talks and gets teens to elect Schwarzenegger, was she conveying meaningful information?  It seems that whether you think she should have been speaking with "meaning" or not, that she had a very real effect means that it did.

That is to say... just because people shouldn't be seen as important or influential, if they are, in fact, influential, doesn't that mean they're de facto important?

Oh, and a side note: if disliking someone's art is reason enough to dislike the artist, then you're conflating the two far more then is necessary in most cases.  That is to say, I find that reason to be lacking of merit as a stand alone reason.

"Artists" rarely say anything meaningful. They simply have a captive audience for their opinion, which is given as truth and fact, and those that disagree are riducled and deemed unimportant.

And just because someone or something is thought of as "popular" doesn't in any way oblige or require me to like it.

Nah, I just think it's funny when someone says they dislike something for no apparent reason.  Not liking the music?  Sure, whatever.  Music is music, sometimes you like it, sometimes you don't.

But he hasn't given a single reason to not like the person.  He's made broad statements about "entertainment personalities", but when directly asked what she's done to make him think she belong in said category has remained silent.

Ask and ye shall receive.  Either the fame done gone to her head or she's always been trash.  Dunno, don't care.

The other incident which was mentioned in the article was the following:
-she arrived at a Yankee's game in basically a jersey over bra and panties (which anyone else would have been thrown out)
-photographers started taking pictures
-she got pissed even though her attention grabbing attire would have gotten most people kicked out
-demanded to be moved
-gave the middle finger to the crowd

(She may have given the middle finger before she was moved. I'm not positive.)
So if you're going to dress to get attention, you shouldn't be pissed when you get that attention.

I do not like her because of her music but her personality make me really dislike her.

(Also, I'm starting to think that I'm the only person who doesn't like Katy Perry. I don't actively dislike her like Lady Gaga; I just don't particularly like her.)

Yeah, I guess she got Seinfeld's box cuz of all her drunken whining, too.  Jerry was not pleased.  Heh.

I am also not a Katy Perry fan.  I mean, I like her body but I couldn't name one song she does for you.  Ok, that's a lie.  I know that California Gurls Can't Spell song or whatever it is.  I had heard it like a million times at the bar and thought it was some new teen chick or something - all that crap sounds alike to me.  Anyhoo, it came on on some radio station my friend was playin' through his TV over the weekend and I happened to glance at the screen when it did.  Saw it was hers and was like 'huh, this really sucks' and continued my evening.  So yeah, nice bod but ya'all can keep the rest.

Oh, I've also seen a couple parts of an episode or two of Jersey Shore.  If you hate people now, don't watch any of that show.  It will make you homicidally angry.

Eh, I just did a google search to verify. I don't think there's anything specific about her, but I just don't think she's all that hot. Maybe she looks too goofy? Goofy meaning "non-serious, has fun" and not "haha, you look funny". I don't know. Its not like Jennifer Garner who I know why I don't like her (she looks too manly).

Yeah, I can see that.  When I don't think she's hot, I just don't.  I mean, sometimes it's her face but that's also something I sometimes like.  Hit or miss, really.  I think, were I to ever see her, she'd likely fall into that sad category of 'good from far, far from good' that so many people fit into.

And I know she beat out Megan Fox (who you like) on the list because the article was teased about a popstar beating out Megan Fox. I was just glad it wasn't Lady Gaga.

Eh, I also don't think she's overly hot. But I must clearly be in the minority since I think she was named the sexiest woman by something for another.

Meh, I like her body.  I don't know that she's all that pretty.  She has moments that wow me and others that make me wonder what the hell I was thinking when I was wowed that other time.  ;)

I always like talking like this.  It's the height of arrogance.  Let me tell you about Katy Perry cuz, you know, I matter to her.

I already told her that she had trouble singing ... but what can I do... I am just her father... think she will listen to me? LOL - She recorded in one take.... did not even let her voice warm up... but what do you expect from a 20 year old? They know everything right?
And yes.... she could have recorded it better too....
But I am still proud of her anyway.....

Note to self: never watch, or visit, Jersey Shore.

Excellent advice.
The only reason I know of it is because my drama-driven wife watches garbage like that all the time.

Why do I seem to be the only one that is demanded to explain in detail my reasons behind everything I post?

Kate Perry well I googled her, and she seems kinda random. Sometimes she's fairly attractive, and other times she's just above average.

Sexiest?
hm.

Dunno.

Maybe among current female popstars.

Robin: cause you post some of the strangest things with your opinions. (and honestly I'm getting kind of used to EE's, TA's and my little side notes in posts that give further explanations)

And I don't have to like anyone, nor do I need to explain myself with detailed reasoning to anybody.

Have to?  'course not.  But just as you're free to not like someone as it suits your whims to do so, I can be amused at your reservations of firm (as opposed to vague) answers, as it suits my whims to do so.

Hmmmm...

'cause my boss made me paranoid 'bout web browsing at work, so I've been away a lot more.

Eh, I don't know much about popstars, but Avril Lavigne is much hotter.

And I know she beat out Megan Fox (who you like) on the list because the article was teased about a popstar beating out Megan Fox. I was just glad it wasn't Lady Gaga. I don't remember what magazine but I saw the article on Yahoo! a while ago. It was probably something like Maxim or something similar.

And you should be.  We're just sorta mean cuz it's teh intertoobs.

Re: Katy Perry:

I think she also falls into the 'I wouldn't kick her outta bed but I also wouldn't kick her into it' category.
