| #1salaraOct 21, 2010 15:16:16 | Hi, I'm Rebecca. I came to college and became friends with a bunch of guys who played DnD, so I, being the gamer that I am, decided to join them for a campaign and loved it. I'm still a beginner, but my friends are convinced that I am the only DnD girl in the world. I know there are others. I can't be the only girl super-gamer. So, are there any other DnD girls out there? |
| #2zombie_babiesOct 21, 2010 15:19:15 | No. You are alone. Eventually, you will become a 300+lb, neckbearded male. Get out while you still can. ![]() |
| #3salaraOct 21, 2010 15:21:06 | Yeah that's so not gonna happen lol. as funny as that would look, there is no way i'm getting a sex change. and why should i get out? i've been playing video games since i was 3! I started on the SNES and Atari! |
| #4pluisjenOct 21, 2010 15:24:08 | I'm running two groups, both 50% female 50% male, so you're not the only one. I'm not sure where the idea that only guys do roleplaying comes from, I've played more games with females then males over th years, including a game where I as DM was the only guy and I ran an all-girl party. |
| #5salaraOct 21, 2010 15:32:02 | yay! i knew i wasn't the only one! idk where it comes from either, girls are just as capable of playing as guys are, tho I'm the only D&D girl i know, i know girls who play other RPGs. Don't know any my age, but there're still female gamers out there! two of them are in my family, my mother and myself! all the rest of my family would rather watch football or reality shows. they don't know what they're missing! |
| #6DrOctOct 21, 2010 15:36:30 | You're certainly not the only girl! I have a girl in my current group, have other friends with a group with a few girls in it and have certainly met many other girl D&Ders! |
| #7zombie_babiesOct 21, 2010 15:36:42 | Well, welcome to the hobby. Hopefully some gals will pop in and say hi soon. There really are some, you know. Honest! |
| #8salaraOct 21, 2010 15:41:49 | lol i trust you all. i'm still rly new to the whole thing, the campaign they put me in on was a bs just-for-fun campaign created by the craziest of my friends. we've now made characters to play legitly as for the sunless citadel or something like that and the following campaigns, and i'm a rogue gnome who's going to become an assassin! i love assassins. they're so much fun. |
| #9zombie_babiesOct 21, 2010 15:43:15 | In the world I run, G'nomes are dead. For reals. It's official and everything. And it's just one of the many reasons I love the Dark Sun setting. ![]() |
| #10pluisjenOct 21, 2010 15:51:40 | It's a shame. Gnomes are cool, I even got my girlfriend to like them after she saw my performance of Beeblespark the mad Artificer and his insane magical contraptions (including his familiar, RoboCluckers2000 the mechanical chicken) Infact I'm running Eberron and my party is headed towards Zilargo... I'm going to watch a lot of James Bond and run each and every Gnome there as a James Bond style secret agent. Gnomes rock! Also, don't be afraid to bother your own friends to play along Salara, a lot of girls are willing to give it a shot and then realise they really like the idea, you'd be surprised. |
| #11salaraOct 21, 2010 15:57:47 | lol i have been trying they're all like "Dungeons and Dragons? what's that?" then "Ew, no thanks, that's a creepy game." so i'm the only D&D girl on campus i'm pretty sure. what's sad is i'm also the only girl in the chess and board gaming clubs, and one of 3 girls in our swordsmanship club. where are my fellow nerdy girls at? lol |
| #12zombie_babiesOct 21, 2010 16:07:53 | In the trunks of the nerdy guys' cars? |
| #13salaraOct 21, 2010 16:09:03 | doubtful, jocks are more likely to put girls in their trunks than nerds are. |
| #14pluisjenOct 21, 2010 16:10:15 | I have one of them safely stored away in my appartment. |
| #15october_darknessOct 21, 2010 17:13:02 | That's funny, there's a girl in my apartment and she somehow managed to put a ring on my finger. Oh wait, that's my wife!!! DOH!!! |
| #16dryad_27Oct 21, 2010 18:02:03 | Suuup! ![]() Maybe your college isn't nerdy enough? What are you studying? Edit: Swordsmanship? Cool. |
| #17ladypantsOct 21, 2010 20:10:53 | You should move to Seattle, lady! I'm have two groups right now, one with 3 women and 2 men; and the other with 4 women and 2 men! It seems the fancy lady nerds flock here. When I was in Texas I only knew a couple of girl gamers. |
| #18toastedamphibianOct 21, 2010 23:08:52 | Hi Rebecca! I'm ToastedAmphibian! Just wanted to pop in and say "You better not be museling in on the attention **** game here". Thats my domain, and I already have my hands full defending it from goldy! |
| #19scypioOct 22, 2010 9:18:31 | In the world I run, G'nomes are dead. For reals. It's official and everything. And it's just one of the many reasons I love the Dark Sun setting. I realized that I'm extremely racist when it comes to DnD. If I had my way, the only races in the game would be the Tolkien races and Halflings/Hobbits can also be cut. So needless to say, I'm not a fan of all the number of different new races in 4e. They should've just make more subraces of the good races =P |
| #20salaraOct 22, 2010 9:19:30 | lol i'm studying Forensic Science. I'm at a mainly engineering school tho, and it's 70% male and the majority of the girls who come here major in forensics, education, or business. there aren't very many engineers here. And dont worry ToastedAmphibian, I'm not trying to get in on the attention **** game. I just wanted to know about other D&D girls cuz all of my friends thought i was the only one! I told them i wasn't! ^-^ |
| #21scypioOct 22, 2010 9:21:15 | lol i'm studying Forensic Science. I'm at a mainly engineering school tho, and it's 70% male and the majority of the girls who come here major in forensics, education, or business. there aren't very many engineers here. Is Forensic Science like analytical chemistry? Or is it something weird and different? (I ask because I'm a chemist and unfortunately do analytical work.) |
| #22salaraOct 22, 2010 10:01:40 | Forensic Scientists collect and analyze evidence from various crime scenes and evidence gathered during a search and seizure and legal/prescription/illegal drugs, etc. etc. we're the behind-the-scenes people in law enforcement |
| #23scypioOct 22, 2010 11:54:36 | Forensic Scientists collect and analyze evidence from various crime scenes and evidence gathered during a search and seizure and legal/prescription/illegal drugs, etc. etc. we're the behind-the-scenes people in law enforcement I was wondering more about the course load and discipline. Is it mainly analytical chemistry with a side of criminal justice? |
| #24zombie_babiesOct 22, 2010 12:11:10 | doubtful, jocks are more likely to put girls in their trunks than nerds are. Yes, that's exactly what we they want you to think ... |
| #25malikluciusOct 24, 2010 8:37:28 |
I propose you bring that into play next time your party does a post-battle search of the bodies- really get into the detail looking at all the dead opponents' stuff, maybe do cavity searches XP if it fits your character, of course. I think your group might get a kick out of you bringing you rreal-world knowledge to the gaming table. You never know ;) |
| #26Robin_HoodlumOct 24, 2010 10:00:45 | Now that all the flirting is done... This thread would be best served in Astrids Parlor... a special place just for D&D girls! Here is a link... community.wizards.com/go/forum/view/7588... |
| #27pigknightOct 24, 2010 13:51:26 | Is that a Rod of Lordly Might in your pocket or are you happy to see me? |
| #28Robin_HoodlumOct 24, 2010 15:55:36 | So, it's ok to point out a thread is in the wrong place sometimes, but not all the time? Like only point it out when it's a "lookin' for a group" thread, or a thread with a technical question... but don't point it out when it's by a girl, when there is an obviously better place for her thread? I hate to sound like the bad guy, really... But I am only pointing out the obvious truth. *shrug* |
| #29dryad_27Oct 24, 2010 16:23:56 | You sure read into that response, huh? |
| #30pigknightOct 24, 2010 17:05:34 | The LFG ones are just our pet peeve. |
| #31salaraOct 25, 2010 9:04:54 | Thanks for informing me about the other forum, I really don't mind being told that there is a better forum for it because I am new to this thing. There is a reason i'm not a computer engineer like my roomie is!! lol. programming. *shudder* gives me a migraine. And forensics is a lot of analytical chemistry, just with a crime scene focus. I think it'll be fun! And no, I'm not grossed out by dead things a gore. I used to be, but not anymore. I got over it when i started being fascinated with the CSI shows and started wondering what it would be like to do that irl! So i researched it, and even tho forensics is NOT what the shows depict it to be, it still fascinated me because one of my pet peeves are people who break major laws, like theft, murder, and drugs, but idk if i wld have the guts to be with the police and possibly have to take a life myself. That and the fact that I have a head for math and science makes forensics perfect for me!! I'll leave it to other ppl to bring the person in, i'll just tell them who did it, and what the major offense was! |
| #32dryad_27Oct 25, 2010 19:41:31 | I can't believe someone asked a (future) forensic scientist if they were 'grossed out' by gore! How many pilots are afraid of flying, do you think? ![]() And Salara, you should watch Dexter - it's about a serial killer who is a blood-splatter analyst by day. |
| #33salaraOct 25, 2010 20:31:36 | lol yeah, that does kind of seem important that i'm not grossed out by it in my field, doesn't it? lol. And that sounds like a cool show! i'll definately be sure to check it out! |
| #34EscherEnigmaOct 25, 2010 20:36:58 | Oh, I don't know, if you lose your lunch everytime you look at a gore-splattered scene, you might get into a field where you encoutner gore-splattered scenes regularly as a diet program. |
| #35salaraOct 25, 2010 20:55:48 | lol that'd just be gross. though I do admit that gorey movies, up until about a year and a half to two years ago made me sick to my stomach. Now i can stand just about any type of blood and gore. Of course, the first time I go onto a scene myself and see the crime firsthand, i might vomit. But I don't think so, I have a pretty strong stomach now. Not much can get to me anymore... except haunted houses. idk what it is about them but the moment i enter a haunted house everything scares the crap out of me and as soon as I see the light for the exit I bolt for it. |

Actually, after seeing gory movies and such, I imagine most people are inured to the sight. The reall issue will likely be the smell. Gorey movies aren't shown in smell-o-vision for a reason, and not just because it's not real yet. |
| #37salaraOct 25, 2010 21:01:09 | yeah, i've heard the smell is terrible. if i lose my lunch over anything when i go onto my first crime scene, the smell is what the cause would be. But i'll worry about that when i come to it. after all, it wouldnt be the first time i'll vomit nor the last. stupid flu makes sure of that lol |
| #38MechaPilotOct 25, 2010 21:04:51 | yeah, i've heard the smell is terrible. if i lose my lunch over anything when i go onto my first crime scene, the smell is what the cause would be. They rubbed something like Vick's Vap-o-rub under their nostrils before looking at the corpse that had been in the water for weeks/months. |
| #39salaraOct 25, 2010 21:06:41 | lol i'll keep that in mind, but I plan on being a forensic anthropologist, so i'll be working with bodies a lot, so i'd prolly need to get used to the smell anyway, at least enough so i could do my job. |
| #40jesse.two.coinsOct 26, 2010 7:38:06 | deffo use vick's lol but have you actually gotten to vivisection (pretty sure thats right) salara? |
| #41scypioOct 26, 2010 8:50:34 | I can't believe someone asked a (future) forensic scientist if they were 'grossed out' by gore! Eh, I've encountered pre-meds who were not a fan of blood and guts. Sometimes people don't think things through as well as they should. |
| #42jesse.two.coinsOct 26, 2010 9:03:17 | and its a career lol do you know how many people dont like their career? |
| #43salaraOct 26, 2010 9:45:12 | i'm only a freshman, so, unfortunately, i have not been able to do anything that is actually major requirements. Just stupid core freshman stuff that is what i did in middle school and high school. I can't wait til i get into the fun stuff, and get an internship! |
| #44zombie_babiesOct 26, 2010 10:00:53 | I'm a hunter so I've seen all sorts of dead animals - from ones I've killed only moments before to ones that died from natural causes quite a bit before I ran into them. The smell? Not too bad at all with fresh stuff - unless it was killed by something damaging its gut. That's ... bad. Old rotting stuff? Bloated almost to poppin'? Yeah, that even gets to me. Not puke or nuthin', mind, but it's truly horrendous. |
| #45jesse.two.coinsOct 26, 2010 11:36:15 | I watched a vivisection once....is it weird that I thought it was neat? |
| #46MechaPilotOct 27, 2010 0:08:48 | I watched a vivisection once....is it weird that I thought it was neat? Are you using the proper term? Vivisection means the creature (potentially a human since you weren't that specific) being disected was alive at the time. |
| #47jesse.two.coinsOct 27, 2010 6:40:12 | AH!!! NO NO NO NO NO definitely used the wrong term then! I don't think they call it bisection cuz they cut a triangle shape....so I used the only other "section" term I know. sorry about that, and thanks for catching it! |
| #48zombie_babiesOct 27, 2010 9:21:04 | I actually vivisected a few frogs back in the ol' HS days. Was quite interesting. |
| #49Robin_HoodlumOct 27, 2010 9:28:50 | The Imperial Japanese Army conducted vivisections on allied and Chinese prisoners during WWII... just to see how different diseases, wounds, and extremes of temp and pressure affect the human body. And the Germans did this as well to Jewish, gypsy, and homosexual prisoners. |
| #50jesse.two.coinsOct 27, 2010 11:37:29 | my teacher did one for the class and all he did was nail an anesthetized frog to a board and hack it up 0.o |
| #51pigknightOct 27, 2010 21:13:37 | I know I thought vivisecting some bloke was neat-o. |
| #52jesse.two.coinsOct 28, 2010 6:39:20 |
piggeh you so silleh |
