#1 Robin_Hoodlum Jan 20, 2010 20:30:20	That L Ron Hubbard 10 book series, the first book titled The Invaders Plan... Anybody read them? I did. And I loved them! Don't care for Hubbard, but man! that guy can come up with one helluva story!

#3 scypio Jan 21, 2010 14:11:04	I never read any of his works, but after reading about Scientology, I imagine he could be a pretty decent science fiction writer. I'll probably read them someday...
#4 Shiftkitty Jan 21, 2010 14:45:59	I didn't get to read the Battlefield Earth series. I started it while on guard duty, but the site closed and whoever owned the book took it with him when he left. I thought it an interesting premise, and while I enjoyed the movie, I can see how it was very lacking when compared to even the small bit I was able to read. I thought that maybe they should have done it as a miniseries. As far as Scientology goes, I'm normally against book burning, but in this case I'd make an exception. Screw Tom Cruise and John Travolta. I saw that crap destroy a friend of mine. He was training with an eye on making it all the way to "Mr. Universe". He was buff, healthy, and a great guy. After Scientology got through with him he was a depressing mass of overweight, sadly out of shape alcoholism. It had only been a couple of years, and throughout that time he insisted that Hubbard was onto something. he was like a Moonie or something. The more we'd try to talk to him, the more he'd insist that we would recognize our own problems if we would just read the book (I already had read it a few years prior.) The bad news is that he's still out of shape and has some serious health issues caused by his sudden and massive weight gain. The good news is, we saved him from that cult.
#5 EscherEnigma Jan 21, 2010 14:47:57	Eh.  I read Battlefield Earth before I learned about Hubbard's politics.  As is, I thought it was interesting for the first half, but the second half of the book was just boring.

I can't for the life of me remember the overall series title (i'm pretty sure it was Mission Earth), but I know the first book (of ten) was titled "The Invaders Plan". I highly recommend it! I read Battlefield Earth and, like EE, was bored by the second half of the book. But this series is much, much, much better! It is a satire, and has to be read to be appreciated. Actually EE, you would probably like it very much...

I read a little of his stuff a long long time ago and it wasn't bad (can't remember exactly what books though), but once I learned of scientology, I wasn't really interested anymore. A friend of mine read battlefield earth and recommended it to me but I just never got around to reading it.

Sure a lot of boneheads buy into it, but the story itself is utter rubbish. No one would buy that crap if it was actually billed is the fiction it is.

And it was the lady the doctor was staying with that was a nympho... Man! I am going to have to read those again... they are damn entertaining!
