| #3grehnheweJun 09, 2011 21:12:42 | Gobal warming or not, the feral camels need to go. They do not belong there, and they are harming the native habitat. There was a thread and articles in the paper a couple of months ago, about a person who was looking to export camel meat from Australia. (mostly to the Middle-East and Africa but also Europe and the States) www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/18/us-au... I still want to try it. |
| #4bone_nagaJun 09, 2011 21:16:48 | I don't know how much it will do for global warming, but I don't particularly care for camels so I won't be sad to hear of their demise. |
| #5toastedamphibianJun 09, 2011 21:42:48 | Hunt them by helocopter. |
| #6JhariiJun 09, 2011 21:53:24 | For some bizzare reason I figured Ausies had more sense than this. No kidding. Everyone knows that Outback camels are far deadlier than their Asian cousins. Pretty sure they call them the camel ninjas. I expect the human death toll to rise if they pursue this course of action. I suppose they could be worse for the environment. They could all be... ![]() |

| #8MaxpersonJun 10, 2011 10:21:06 | For some bizzare reason I figured Ausies had more sense than this. These are the people that wanted to ban Mall Santas from saying, "ho ho ho!," because it might be offensive to women. |
| #9MaxpersonJun 10, 2011 10:34:06 | Every little thing helps. This would be 1 million tons less of CO2 per year. Mud volcanos put out more than 30 times that annually. Some estimates put them at hundreds of times that annually. Volcanic erruptions also put out millions of tons of CO2. Add that to what mankind is putting out via fossil fuel buring (You don't see Australia smashing 1 million cars), and the killing of those million camels amounts to removing a thimbleful of CO2 from the world. They're wasting their time and effort and looking silly to accomplish a big fat nothing. |
| #10LFKJun 10, 2011 10:46:12 | Every little thing helps. This would be 1 million tons less of CO2 per year. They're using it as an excuse to enact a policy that a faction of the Australian Government has been itching to do for a long time now. |
| #11SomeoneJun 10, 2011 11:38:31 | Not sure why Australia would care much about global warming- they're already warm. Oooh, your 100-degree days just became 101-degree days, oh no! |
| #12eratoJun 10, 2011 11:55:15 | Not sure why Australia would care much about global warming- they're already warm. Oooh, your 100-degree days just became 101-degree days, oh no! Perhaps because they've had very unstable weather, recently having the worst period of drought in their history, causing the harvest to fail for years, and is now battling with flooding. |
| #13LFKJun 10, 2011 12:14:39 | Not sure why Australia would care much about global warming- they're already warm. Oooh, your 100-degree days just became 101-degree days, oh no! The continent is dying; the movement of all their carbon and water is from the interior to the exterior, with very little looping back inwards, all of their major cities are coastal, and the environment there is very fragile. Upsets to global climate don't mean 28º days become 29º days, it means summers get much hotter, and winters get much colder. It also upsets rainfall and wind patterns. Just this past December and January the area I was living in around Brisbane suffered massive flooding. When I left to come home to Canada in December I had to run around the airport parking lot to find a spot that wasn't covered in several inches of water to drag my luggage through. Three weeks later I was watching videos of cars being swept away in Ipswitch. The more arrurate result of "global warming" isn't just "climate change" it's completely displaced weather patterns. Now, long term it's not like we couldn't get used to new weather patterns and migrate around the globe appropriately, but all our current infastructure is built with the current weather patterns in mind. If the southern States started having winters even a smidge like Canadian ones their roads would disintegrate in one year, because they're not designed with heavy freeze/thaw cycles in mind. How many houses in the states don't have a deep enough basement if the frost line changes? What if the oceans rise and the water table rises with it? How many roads/buildings/cities would now be in a flood plane where there wasn't one before? |
