mplindustries: Minis count as art. Especially the effort that goes into painting them. I'm only 3/4 finished with the Tau Minis that I have posted for example. (My Necrons are pretty much finished)
Yeah, I kinda got out of drawing for a while I'm just coming back to it. Most of the pictures are of drawings that are fairly old. With women I tend to draw the legs longer than I should anyway. (it's more or less a comic style I'm going for with my work)

Cherubaddon: Just don't field Land Raiders against Tau.. (I understand though... Blessed Hull Crusaders are six kinds of awesome. ) At least if you faced my army most likely you wouldn't have to worry about Crisis Suits. I just have the stealth suits, and the vehicles. :P My single Space Marine pic in my scrapbook is from my Black Templar List that I'm slowly building.

Just save 20 bucks a month, do that for six months and buy a battleforce, and a Crisis suit. That will get you started for small pt games and that's what I did.

Oh I would love to do that, but for now I'm still refining my Imperial Guard army. Those Commissars sure charge a high price for their services.
What was Megaforce?
It'll give you better insight and change the POV of what you do rather than just sticking to one gun and blasting away. Use them all.
Actual critique (drawing) (?); your stuff is definetly design-oriented, a heavy slant to line art. I'm a pen/ink guy myself at times, so respect on that end. It's not a very forgiving media (once it's down, it's down...another reason I don't like digiart much [EDIT->UNDO] wtf!!!), so it'll force you to improve faster than other media. This is good...but often, very frustrating.
To that end, you need to work on tone as well, not just shapes. That is, light & dark are difficult when dealing w/ pen/ink, so you better get good at x-hatching real fast. Either that or try pointillism. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be surprised how photo-realistic they become, particularly the later.
Uh, what else?
Oh, contrapasto ("counterweight"). Gotta' work on that. Limbs/bodies are on counter-axis so basic posturing always has an up/downside, etc. Overall composition and proportion need to be tightened up and it will in due time. Always does, so don't stress on it. Stay objective.
Carry a sketch pad, some .005 Microns, a #2 & .5mm pencils EVERYWHERE you go. If bored, draw. Lunch break, pre bed time ritual, waiting for dinner, whatever, draw. Do not hesitate unless it's in bad form socially per locale 'x'.
Also, a digicam, nothing fancy, for reference material for sketches given weather, light, practicality. Shoot ppl mostly (your main focus, no?). Scrutinize everything. Go through old/new D&D art (I like Mimura, Elmore, Lockwood a lot myself), compare/contrast. Get yourself a copy of Spectrum (15 I think is this year's) every year. Hang out @ book/comic stores, observe, research.
YOUR MULTI-MEDIA: That is, switching up between your 2D fantasy & 3D minis is good. I can't stand it when "artists" are really good...just at photoshop. Best to stay well rounded and it would seem, I guess around here, pen/ink & metal mini painting predominates. Exhibit 'A'. Why should I be any different, no? ;)

Take care, it's not my working portfolio, just stuff I do in my downtime. Main crap is framed, difficult or impossible to scan, copyrighted, or, more often than not, unavailable due to procrastination. Some of it is alright.
The minis, however, suck too as my g/f's crap digicam (her cell's cam is actually better IIRC) and that there's an orange flare & it's washing out alot of detail. Still working on that, but sadly, I neglect my account too much.

I try my best to get my hands on various art and or photos. Actually I have a subscription to Maxim just for the photos of the women to use as models. Though I've only recently started using it as such. Yeah I'm not sure why so many people limit themselves either. I like having that option to "Screw it, I don't wanna draw I wanna paint" so I can go off and paint.

Truly, but I wouldn't know (drastically unprepared for real life post '99). They didn't offer any digital media in ANY of the Art or Fine Art Studios in my college during my 4 years, so, yeah, every graphix job I applied to apart from indie contracting more traditional media was like, "Do you know Illustrator, Painter, Photoshop, bla bla bla?" To which, I'd just stand there w/ my portfolio feeling/looking dumb.
So, having said that, explore that media too. I'm just pi$$ed as I didn't get the credentials I needed from '95-'99. Make sure you do. It doesn't have to be "hard".

Just messing w/ you. I used to get a Time, Entertainment Weekly, and whatever music mag I wanted for subscription, but namely for slicing & dicing (photomontage). Still, if the shoe fits. I would advise life drawing. Working 2D (your mags) can help w/ perspective and all, but IRL, it's better. If you have a g/f, use her. It has its practicalities and, uh, asthetic advantages, plus she will be flattered/ingratiated. It's a nice gesture.

Do what you want (media). Don't feel restrained.
I'm going to take some art courses at the local college once I get some money together. I've taken like two art courses (in highschool) and one of them was art and calligraphy. The other was a drawing course. They helped alot with my art skills and I figure if they helped that much a serious art course could probably do me quite abit better.
(And I'll note to take some digital art courses too if I can)

You should consider trying your hand at charcoal as you seem to have regular pencil to paper down proficiently. Jump between that and pen/ink.
Oh, and word of caution, DO NOT POST those pics over in Astrid's unless you want your head handed to you. Cheese or no, they have merit, but in that room, my God, just wait till the socio-political spin on every print you see...

I used to dabble in charcoal, but my OCD doesn't like the powdery residue all over everything. I draw just for "instant satisfaction", as Frank Frazetta put it. I also paint, sculpt, and do a lot of woodworking.
As for Astrid's....meh. My wife hangs out in there from time to time, and every single time she does she ends up laughing her butt off. Her exact words one night as she looked in on them were, "Oh my God! It's b***ches like these that make me embarrassed to be a woman". Coming from a psychologist, that's pretty harsh. So...I leave them alone, and they leave me alone. It's genre art...if they don't like it, they shouldn't look at it. I hate chick-flicks, so I don't watch them. I won't berate someone else who does like them, though.

OCD tidiness concerns, but you do ceramics (sculpture) for one?
Not sure if I'm OCD, but I try (tried) and stay sharpish; short nails for clay work, hair back/tethered when it was long when using a torch/wheel/etc (saw horrible accidents w/ classmates more than once, omg :eek, even foo foo moisturizers from all the clay, nitric acid, Fast Orange, etc. Messes you up; get a handshake like a lich after a semester of ceramics alone.I took at least 24 crdt hrs of ceramics, sculpture, and life sculpture and you come out looking like you were digging in a quarry. Granted most were 1.5 hr classes, but 3 hrs of circling a live model w/ clay everywhere...yeah, dirty.
This is to say nothing of painting. I'm like a damn surgeon w/ my minis (I'll try and post more accurate photos on DevArt, g/f's cam doesn't do them justice), B/W 35mm photos, pen/ink, engraving, and jewlerymaking. However...painting, like oils mostly, it's messy as Hell. Even acrylics, water sometimes is a pain in the ass. "Residue" is the least of your worries.

It was a really nice deal that you basically got 35 to 40 percent off of buying the stuff separately, it came with 3 Crisis Suits 12 Fire Warriors, a Devil Fish, 3 Stealth Suits 3 Piranha, gun drones and a hammer head tank I believe.
