| #1EscherEnigmaOct 30, 2011 23:38:52 | [NaNoWriMo] [No Shave November] (does anyone have a good link?) I plan on participating in both, or at least trying. Anyone else? Anyone feel like tracking NaNoWriMo progress as a group? Anyone feel crazy enough to want to write a group novel? Seriously, we probably got up to 50,000 words in no time back in the Edition Wars. Any interest in people giving previews/fullviews of their progress? If people are writing in Goolge Docs that'd be easy, you can just have it spit up a view-only link, and I can include links here in the opening post (as well as updates on word count when provided) Anyway. There seemed some interest when I asked a month or two back, just kinda curious if there's enough interest (both in group-support to accomplish the challenge and reading other people's pre-edited work). If there is I'll probably edit this first post. Oh, and guys? I want a picture from all o' ya on the 1st showing your beard, and any updates you feel like giving to show off your manly dedication to ... um... not shaving. Which is... manly... or something. It'll at least help keep your face warm in the winter. Unless you're in the southern hemisphere, in which case it'll just make you sweat more in the summer. But nobody important lives below the equator, so we don't have to worry about that. November 1st Update: |
| #2pigknightOct 30, 2011 23:55:20 | 1) I'm already writing a work (dunno how long it'll be, my stuff writes itself). 2) Have to shave. Private school. |
| #3jetshieldOct 31, 2011 0:00:24 | I've finally accepted that all my attempts to actually finish a novel are doomed to failure. I inevitably hate whatever I've written when I reread it. My boss would have a fit (and not let me work) if I stopped shaving. At least until it was grown out enough to be called a proper beard. |
| #4Ragnar_LodbrokOct 31, 2011 0:54:51 | I already don't shave if I can avoid it. |
| #5pluisjenOct 31, 2011 3:22:52 | Myeah I doubt a month of not shaving is going to change all that much about my beard, other then giving me sideburns which look really stupid. Then again, I only shave like once a month anyway so I might accidentally join in... As for the novel, I think I'll give it another shot. Probably won't be writing on googledocs but I can post the occasional snippet here for those who care about it. It'll be a sequel though, so I'm not sure how much sense it'll make. |
| #6EscefOct 31, 2011 3:47:52 | I'm going to shoot for a sequel to my (unfinished) 2009 project. |
| #7dirtyfrankOct 31, 2011 8:01:40 | A lot of us guys in the physics department here at sac state are doing a no shave thingy. We're calling it Novembeard. Basically on the 1st we're shaving everything off to a clean shave and growing out our facial hair all month. No shaving or nothing until the last day of November. We'll then have a sort of competition on who can have stylish beards and whatnot. Should be fun. Maybe. |
| #8draco1119Oct 31, 2011 8:13:35 | Anyway. There seemed some interest when I asked a month or two back, just kinda curious if there's enough interest (both in group-support to accomplish the challenge and reading other people's pre-edited work). If there is I'll probably edit this first post. Meh. I don't write. I have most of a friend's novel saved in my emails, though. She wrote a novel based on our D&D campaign that went Epic (I ended up hitting level 32). Maybe I'll ask if I can post her unedited work here... Then I'll let you guys guess which character in the novel is mine. ![]() |
| #9ADHadhOct 31, 2011 13:32:28 | I don't write and I've pretty much stopped shaving back in August. Also, no photos from me, nothing beyond a crudely drawn smug self-portrait. |
| #10EscherEnigmaNov 01, 2011 21:10:16 | My Nov 1st picture and ADHadh's artist rendition added to the first post. Once I get started on my NaNoWriMo (later tonight) I'll include a link to that as well. ... and you lot should totally join in (with pictures and NaNoWriMo attempts) so I don't look so sad and pathetic. |
| #11EscherEnigmaNov 02, 2011 0:30:37 | Well, finished my writing for tonight. Had to stop, hash out details and ideas, and start again, then stop, sketch out a rocket ship, and start again. So I only got 800ish words done tonight. And so I give you the beginning of Grace Under Fire: docs.google.com/document/d/17FzAeotTOghN... |
| #12zammmNov 02, 2011 3:11:17 | [No Shave November] (does anyone have a good link?) Movember? Thanks to work I must either stay clean-shaven below the lip or wear a beard-net, and there's no way in hell I'm wearing that damn thing. Sorry. I won't trim my moustache, if that helps. A while back my younger brother and one of his friends at work had tradition of a biweekly "crazy beard day". They wouldn't shave for two weeks, then on the designated day they'd both shave/trim to create the weirdest beards they could think of, and see whose was better. I kind of wish they'd taken pictures. |
| #13Robin_HoodlumNov 02, 2011 6:23:43 | I haven't shaved for about a month... because I'm lazy. And it's starting to get cold out. But I'm not cute like EE, I'm too ugly to post my pic. Besides, most of you know what I look like anyway... |
| #14bone_nagaNov 02, 2011 7:42:22 | Unfortunately the Army doesn't really give me an option when it comes to shaving my face. I could still neglect to shave, but it's nothing most of you would want a picture of. |
| #15NovacatNov 02, 2011 7:49:11 | I'm already participating in the NaNoWriMo thing (and actually ahead of schedule), but I don't care to grow a beard, because I find them uncomfortable and inconvenient. |
| #16EscherEnigmaNov 03, 2011 0:13:10 | Got another ~1500 words tonight, and (more importantly) hashed out more detail on the plot. There's gonna be a cancer-ridden 5-year old that's possessed by a demon. And everyone else that's working on this, if you're putting it up online somewhere you should give me a link to post. 'cause camadrie or somesuch ****. |
| #17zombie_babiesNov 03, 2011 8:41:33 | I can't get all ragamuffiny cuz of work and other stuff. Can't write cuz I'm too busy, lazy and haven't been able to find what I need to accomplish it in a long time. Meh. |
| #18WebsterNov 03, 2011 20:41:01 | Yep, I started a new novel on the 1st. This time I'm going to try not to edit as I write. I want to bang it all out, then go back and edit. |
| #19NovacatNov 04, 2011 3:02:18 | Work + girlfriend + military friends in town for a limited time = not much work getting done on the writing. |
