Sep 11, 2011 22:10:39 So I know it's still a twoish1 months off, but [NaNoWriMo], or National Novel Writing Month if you prefer, is coming up.

And this year, doggoneit2, I'm actually gonna pull it off. Not that I've actually seriously tried in the past. I think I've previously thought about it, in a "wouldn't that be neat" sorta way, but I was always taking class in Novemeber so I had better things to do.

And now I'm not taking classes in November, and it's not like I can take my work home with me4, so why not. To better enable myself to succeed in this endeavor, any wierd story ideas I've been having for the past few weeks I've been writing short snippets/introductions and such for, with the intention to continue tossing them around in my head and, come Novemeber, have at least one idea that I think I can develop into a full 50,000+ word novel.

So far, I have two I think I can do so to.

One would probably end up being a character-driven drama about a love triangle, marriage, and such-on. It was inspired by a Taylor Swift song5. This one might be a stretch to get to 50,000 words...

The other I have at the moment is an epic fantasy set in a modernish6 world that goes through a magical apocalypse. It's got magic swords, time travelling frost giants, and a guest appearance by a version of my old EscherEnigma the satyr from the OTT RP we had a few years back. It might be a challenge to reign in and finish within the month, but I think it'd be a fun romp, completet with magic, sword fights, political intrigue and extra-temporal beings figuring out just how much they can **** things up.

Anyway. I think I'm mostly rambling on account of the liquor I added to my drink7, but I was curiuos if anyone else is planning on trying the NaNoWriMo thing and what, if anything, they're thinking about/tossing around in their head to try and walk in with some preparation/ideas and what-not.

1That is to say, 50 days which rounds up to 2 months but isn't exactly two months, hence my use of "ish" to imply that it wasn't precisely but approximately in the grand scheme of things, such as they are. Savvy?
2Should that be one word or three? I mean, it looks kinda weird to spell it out as three words, "dog gone it", but it looks odd all jammed together too. Then again, when you think about it3, "dog gone it" or "doggoneit" are both odd phrases to hear or say. How odd.

4I mean seriously... even if I wanted to, I'd have to jump through quite a few hoops to be able to take my work home with me. For some reason they don't want me taking classified documents out to my not-at-all-secure house. Odd that. So no work-from-home for me.

Sep 12, 2011 0:55:32 I'm half planning to write the sequel to the novel I wrote for NaNo about 5 years ago. Mostly to surprise my best friend who always liked the first one but complained that the ending was too open. (A novel written especially for you is a pretty neat birthday present right?)

However with the little one I'm not sure if I'll have the time... we'll have to see.

You could always combine your two ideas by the way. There is no such thing as "too over the top" for NaNoWriMo.

Sep 12, 2011 1:45:55 I think I wrote half a chapter last year. The year before that I got over 80% done. I've been meaning to polish up the one from the other year and make a sequel.
