| #1ka-elJan 20, 2009 9:54:44 | Tonight I'll be playing a game with some friends, a short lvl 1 campaign. After playing a mid level 2 weapon wielding kickass ranger for years, it's gonna be hilarious to get thrown back to the games basics again. Anyway, I'm kinda caught up between the necromancer and the paladin, 2 quite extremes of eachother. Which of them is most fun to play at low levels? Specialist Wizard seems so lame at the early levels... maybe I should just be a goblin.. |
| #2oxybeJan 20, 2009 10:29:43 | necro or pally? if it's going to stay in the low levels, your safe bet will probably be to go for durability the pally offers. if the game gets to the point where you expect to get to levels 5+, i'd say go necro, but i'm very biased as i love casters :D. personally, i'm more of a offensive transmuter wizard type... nothing says "what, me worry?" like a decent dex, mage armor & alter self (troglodyte form) to cause the fightery types to look down sad at your better AC :D |
| #3ka-elJan 20, 2009 10:34:34 | lol I hate them. I run this campaign with among others a half-orc monkey grip barbarian, who got his amulet of enlarge person from the Gnome Illusionist... I count him as EL + 2. Anyway, Paladin seems only usefull for first levels to me, he gains little after lvl 6. Oh well this campaign isn't prolly gonna run so long. Most likely to be more of an RP & Skill game than a chop fest. |
| #4oxybeJan 20, 2009 11:37:13 | we've got a pally in my wednesday game and he's pretty much still rocking the boat the same way he always was... except you know, he's on a rhino mount once we managed to hit level 8-9. not sure if he's ever going to trade it out. still though. play whatever you want. like i said, i'm biased towards casters as i really love the versatility a prepared caster with a case full of scrolls & a bundle of wands gives me. my pally buddy loves running over thugs and spearing them in the name of greater good XP. |
| #5eshenalerosJan 21, 2009 13:09:44 | I'd say Necro. even at first level, that charm spell wizards can get can do so much for you, like learning the BBEG's plans from a subordinate and bypassing the other seven encounters set up by the DM... I'm an enchanter type by the by |
| #6goblin_prideJan 21, 2009 18:13:15 | maybe I should just be a goblin.. Just? I will have you know that it takes a great deal of skill to navigate the world as a goblin. Between the possible enslavement by Hobgobs or orcs and senseless slaughter by those pesky humans, stunties and leaf-chewers, a goblin's life can be quite exciting. |
| #7pigknightJan 21, 2009 23:57:21 | Necromancer/Paladin! |
| #8toastedamphibianJan 22, 2009 0:19:16 | Necromancer/Paladin! Notably hard to pull off at level 1. |
