| #1mr.scruffyMay 25, 2011 23:32:31 | So my DM made a house rule that we can tame some beasts, depending on what their age, level, language spoken(if any) etc. My party currently has an Eladhrin Ranger, a Halfling Rogue, a Dwarf Warlord, and me, the Human Fighter (tank build) Our ranger will have a fey panther if we find one (i have a horrible suspicion the giant thing in the shadows of the city we are in is one) and our halfling doesnt know yet. But, we have recently added one more thing to our party, and either me or the Dward will raise it as a familiar/pet or whatever, though we both want it. Reason? Its a newborn blue dragon. Id like advice on who should probably raise it, he will definately be leading it with a rope leash due to his racial resistance to forced movement. But I know how to raise it, feed it, etc. due to an Arcana check. The mentality for me is I should raise it because I know about what it should have, what it shouldnt, and have more hitpoints, though his AC is higher (he took the money and bought himself stuff, nearly stabbing him) We both know that its likely to damage us repeatedly, and so I figured since hes more important (hes party leader and heir to a throne) so I should raise it, and he would have something that he could keep with him, he needs a more docile familiar than a dragon, it seems to me. He thinks that because hes party leader and he can wrestle with it he should raise it. Nobody can decide and our party has taken a neutral stance. Im trying to help the party, so I would also like advice on what familiar would be good for whoever doesnt get the dragon, and it can pretty much be anything, we just have to find it. I figured he would do better with a Humongulous if he wants something big, or probably as i said earlier, something that he can bring into town, since hes the silver tounged person, im just a person who knows stuff. I could REALLY use the recommendations though. |

This is the first time I have ever played DND, and that is why I came here to ask, I would like a more unbiased opinion for it, rather than the current competition we have going, which is kill a specific level 9 Bounty Hunter or get Linguist to learn Draconic at next level, which the DM decided to be nice and make us all even like, 200 xp from it. We were 50 xp ahead of the Dwarf after the days xp, but he gave him the 50 so its an even race. |

| #4pluisjenMay 26, 2011 5:02:09 | One should one raise something that is, or will be, larger, smarter and stronger then oneself by putting it on a leash and forcing it around. That will end in someone being eaten, and it won't be the Dragon. |
| #5jesse.two.coinsMay 26, 2011 6:48:04 | put a pillow over his face and mollywhop that dwarf playing bastard. punch that pillow till your fists hurt then go back to playing, if he calls the cops theres no bruises. |
| #6jetshieldMay 26, 2011 9:15:37 | I'm not sure where you'd get the idea that the Heir to the Dwarven Throne should have a passive anything. Add to that the fact that the last thing you want is your tank flying around above a battle, rather than on the ground actually tanking, and I'd say you just might be looking to have the "cool factor" for yourself. I could be wrong. In any event, I hope your DM has a few years of experience under his/her belt. Letting a party have a bunch of powerful "pets" can be fun, but it can also lead to problems and frustration for a novice DM. |
| #7zombie_babiesMay 26, 2011 9:40:12 | From what I saw, the party already has two pets: a Dwarf and a Halfling. Those things aren't people, folks. |
| #8mr.scruffyMay 26, 2011 10:42:56 | Lulz at the punching him in the face........ As it is, I can actually kill any other member of the party, im not only the tank but the damage per shot guy. The dragon would more than likely be something we call in when we have a fight we know we cant win, and MAYBE me flying on it for traveling, while the others are on the cart, so I can keep an eye out for anything large-ish that I could see that may try to kill us. Also, I am the Human random guy, not the Dwarf. |
| #9damixmastermikeMay 26, 2011 11:00:07 | It is quite simple: cut the dragon in half and you both get a piece. |
| #10zombie_babiesMay 26, 2011 12:06:54 | Fighter on dragon = Fighter that can't, you know, fight. Cuz they are melee. And flying typically takes you out of melee. You know, where a fighter does his stuff. Melee. Not high up in the sky. Cuz they can't fight way up thar in them clouds. Cuz they're melee. You know, up close and personal like. And usually on the ground. Where melee happens most often. Just murder it in its sleep. If you can't have it, nobody can. |
| #11jetshieldMay 26, 2011 12:09:25 | And when it'd dead, you can argue about who gets to have armor made from it. |
| #12zombie_babiesMay 26, 2011 12:12:21 | ****. Damn, we don't want more arguments. New solution: have your character kill himself in his sleep. Somehow. A houserule may need to be made to pull that off. Anyhoo, do that and then there won't be any arguments about the dragon anymore. |
| #13jesse.two.coinsMay 26, 2011 12:47:42 | give it to the wizard. |
| #14ADHadhMay 26, 2011 14:44:09 | ****. Damn, we don't want more arguments. New solution: have your character kill himself in his sleep. Somehow. A houserule may need to be made to pull that off. Anyhoo, do that and then there won't be any arguments about the dragon anymore. He should shoot himself in the back with his own bow preferably. |
| #15zombie_babiesMay 26, 2011 15:01:16 | But ... but he's a fighter. If he had a bow (and the powahs to go along with it), he could ride the dragon! ![]() |
| #16mr.scruffyMay 26, 2011 15:23:13 | Frankly, the only time i would ride it is traveling between cities. Me and the Dwarf are both melee, jsut so you know. He drives the cart normally, but me and him take shifts. The Eladhrin would be the only one who could fight FROM the dragon, but im thinking fighting alongside it would be almost as good, with it being something to hit them in the side, and just being smart and stuff. Honestly, I was just trying to see what you guys thought I should suggest as a familiar for whoever doesnt get the dragon, and if you think I should let the Dwarf have it, I was throwing all the other stuff out there so you would have the information I thought could help...... |
