Netbook Connection Problems?

Nov 14, 2009 5:59:06 The good news: I'm in Argentina.

The bad news: The Internet sucks. Worse, it's not an Argentina thing. There's highspeed wifi every few metres in Buenos Aires, and out here, on the large farm, we also have 54Mbps wireless. Yet it still sucks. Webpages load so slowly that I have reverted to using gmail in HTML mode, and I'm unable to download anything. The download will start, run for a few minutes, and then break off. And this isn't like the entire discography of Metallica or somesuch I'm talking about, I'm unable to download a damn Java plugin. Yet signal strength always hangs between Very Good and Excellent.

I'm thinking maybe it has to do with the msi netbook I use... does any of you have an idea if it could be, and if it can be remedied?

Also, no. Don't know where you heard it, but I don't hold it likely people come here to screw - there's nicer spots with a police more forgiving than this.

Nov 16, 2009 20:39:44 You might have a good connection to the router, but if your ISP sucks, the router can only feed your computer the information as fast as it receives it. I'm not a computer guru, but it sounds like the problem might not necessarily be on your end. I get the same thing when I travel and use free wifi from the hotel, but at home my internet works just fine on the same computer.

I'm pretty sure they do. Cuz that sort of thing is legal. And cheap. The police are still pretty dangerous, though. As to what it has to do with your netbook, downloading pics to remember the trip by?

EDIT: The Nazi thing. After WWII was over, many high ranking Nazis headed for the hills - of South America. Funded by a sort of secret society thing called Odessa, they made new lives for themselves. Some, of course, were eventually captured by the Mosad and returned to Israel to face charges. So that explains that. But you're not a Nazi fleeing prosecution at Nuremberg or a skeezy sex tourist, right? So it's all good in the hood.
