just incase no ones able to figure it out, Man-Bat has long been my favorite Bat-Man villan.
After all, his initial purpose was to kill Batman. And he was able to use Joker of all people as a minion.
I think Bane was always a lot more dangerous than people remembered, if only because he's actually very intelligent.

Yeah, Batman & Robin REALLY didn't do Bane justice. Remember, this is the dude who broke Batman's back, leading to the Azrael stories.
BTW., people rolled their eyes at first pictures of Ledger's Joker as well (I know I was underwhelmed at first). I say we gotta wait and see.

This is not true, at least not according to the extra features on the DVDs. According to those Jackson wanted to keep greenscreening to a minimum. The illusion of the hobbits' size was mostly done using camera tricks like forced perspective.
Can anybody explain why they are calling this movie The Dark Knight Rises when they had a perfectly good title with Knightfall? Given that they are marketing it as the conclusion of the trilogy, it would seem like a perfect title. Keep in mind that Frodo was played by a regular sized guy as well. These are shots from the set, not from the movie. People can feel a lot bigger or smaller based on how you film them.

I don't recall many elements of the Killing Joke in Dark Knight, not the plot anyway. It had more in common with the Joker's first appearance in Batman #1, where he vows to kill several people on television and then proceeds to do so in mysterious means despite Batman's protection.
In order to call a story an adaptation of the Killing Joke, I think you would need:
- Joker kidnaps, kills, maims, or at least threatens Gordon's family.
- Joker kidnaps Gordon, or somebody very close to Batman, and tortures them.
- Gordon (or whomever) rallies and reveals that we are not so fragile as his twisted cynicism would have it.
I don't remember the Long Halloween well enough to comment on that.
In any event I highly doubt they could get away with titling the movie after one of the villains.
On the other hand, for a Knightfall adaptation, all you need is:
- Bane's introduction
- Bane fights Batman to within an inch of his life, preferably by using other criminals as pawns to leave Batman mentally and physically exhausted.
- Batman is injured severely enough to be near death, and forced to consider retiring forever.
- Batman rallies and returns to the fight having learned a lesson from Bane, that his weapon is as much his wits as his strength and fighting smart is more important than being tough.
Falling is more consistent than rising thematically and tonally with the first two movies, which were about Batman battling hopelessly against urban decay and collapse, giving every impression that he is desperately fighting a rising tide by trying to punch individual waves in the face, with zero awareness of the simpe fact that he'll never accomplish anything except getting all wet. If Batman is going to accomplish anything in Gotham he needs to learn that he can't do it by putting out brush fires, and Bane is the perfect man to teach him that, and (temporarily) falling is the perfect method because it evokes the line echoed from the first movie in the second: "Why do we fall?" "To learn to get back up."
Plus Knightfall just sounds better. Dark Knight Rises sounds like the straight to DVD sequel tacked on and shot in two weeks when somebody realized the fine print wouldn't let him out of his contract.

Wow, two stills in a 9 hour movie! This is most certain proof positive that "most" of the scenes with hobbits and regular size people were greenscreened, since these two shots consist of the vast majority of Frodo's appearance in the film. (Or from, the original post "all except the ones in the shire," which is weird because both of these stills are from shire scenes and thus not pertinent to the claim.)
All I can say is that according to the DVD extras, Jackson used minimal greenscreening. The hobbit effects were "mostly" done with body doubles and forced perspective. Note the "most." Now, you can say that the documentarians were lying or mistaken, and since this is basically official LotR propaganda you might even have a point, but by all accounts Jackson dislikes greenscreening and CGI which is why so many elements of the films were built by Weta even though it cost significantly more than CGI.

Also, David S. Goyer is not being credited with dialogue. Thank the gods. That man is a terrible, terrible writer. Great stories, don't get me wrong, but anytime he tries to write actual human speech you know you're in for trouble. As evidence, contrast Blade II, which had a story by Goyer but was almost completely rewritten by the director, with Blade III which was written entirely by Goyer.

I'm actually very skeptical, though, about Ann Hathaway as Catwoman. Has she ever done anything more action oriented like this? Not that I doubt her acting ability, I just don't know that I've seen any evidence that this sort of role is in her range. I'd be happy to be wrong, of course.

The primary arc is the Joker terrorizing Gotham in a very similar vein to the way he did so in Batman #1, with Two-Face as merely a pawn in the endgame. The Joker's philosophy is obviously greatly influenced by the Killing Joke but that's not enough to call it an adaptation.

Goyer, who penned the first draft of the film, cited the DC Comics 13-issue comic book limited series Batman: The Long Halloween as the major influence on his storyline. Nolan suggested Batman: The Killing Joke influenced a section of the Joker's dialogue in the film, in which he says that anyone can become like him given the right circumstances.

Just because an adaptation uses Bane doesn't mean it must use the title Knightfall and/or must be an adaptation of that series. It's just so perfect in this case because follows so logically from the previous installments.

Bane will probably bring Batman down for a bit, but I'm sure it will differ from the comics. You have to remember that they are working with a movie that has to be over in about 2... maybe 2 and a half hours. They can't really cripple Batman and then give him some months to start walking again. The time requirements mean that there will be changes to the story. So far, Nolan has done a pretty damn good job with the story.

Sure they can. Some new super-villain breaks him in half even before the credits. During opening credits you show a montage showing how much worse of a ****-hole Gotham has become. Then get into the story. Easy peasie.
