| #2The_SilverswordAug 02, 2011 3:17:06 | Ye Gods!!! Hasnt Bane already been used!? When the hells are they gonna do one with Man-Bat already!? just incase no ones able to figure it out, Man-Bat has long been my favorite Bat-Man villan. |
| #3ADHadhAug 02, 2011 5:06:02 | I think Bane was always a lot more dangerous than people remembered, if only because he's actually very intelligent. After all, his initial purpose was to kill Batman. And he was able to use Joker of all people as a minion. |
| #4draco1119Aug 02, 2011 8:58:20 | I think Bane was always a lot more dangerous than people remembered, if only because he's actually very intelligent. Yeah, Batman & Robin REALLY didn't do Bane justice. Remember, this is the dude who broke Batman's back, leading to the Azrael stories. |
| #5zombie_babiesAug 02, 2011 9:21:24 | Yeah, that was my first thought, too. Tiny Bane is tiny. |
| #6ADHadhAug 02, 2011 10:14:50 | Because after the last movie people were too scared, so they decided to make the villain cuter this time? ![]() BTW., people rolled their eyes at first pictures of Ledger's Joker as well (I know I was underwhelmed at first). I say we gotta wait and see. |
| #7pluisjenAug 02, 2011 10:23:49 | Keep in mind that Frodo was played by a regular sized guy as well. These are shots from the set, not from the movie. People can feel a lot bigger or smaller based on how you film them. |
| #8trappedsliderAug 02, 2011 13:12:53 | Who is playing Bane again? Tom Hardy |
| #9lofgrenAug 02, 2011 13:19:25 | With the exception of the shire all of the hobbits while on screen with regular sized people were shot on green screen. This is not green screen work. This is not true, at least not according to the extra features on the DVDs. According to those Jackson wanted to keep greenscreening to a minimum. The illusion of the hobbits' size was mostly done using camera tricks like forced perspective. Can anybody explain why they are calling this movie The Dark Knight Rises when they had a perfectly good title with Knightfall? Given that they are marketing it as the conclusion of the trilogy, it would seem like a perfect title. There are a lot of people out there who never read the comic but loved Batman Begins and The Dark Knight who would be all, "Batman's going to DIE?! NOOOO!" They would feel absolutely compelled to see this, if only for the novelty of seeing a superhero movie marketed based on the hero losing. |
| #10trappedsliderAug 02, 2011 13:20:43 |
Because they may not be using that storyline, and may be going with a different one |
| #11lofgrenAug 02, 2011 13:21:32 |
It's Batman vs. Bane. Close enough. |
| #12zombie_babiesAug 02, 2011 13:24:39 | Keep in mind that Frodo was played by a regular sized guy as well. These are shots from the set, not from the movie. People can feel a lot bigger or smaller based on how you film them. They also make Tom Cruise and Al Pacino look bigger than the midgets they are. Fair point. |
| #13akaddkAug 02, 2011 13:29:01 | Keep in mind that Frodo was played by a regular sized guy as well. These are shots from the set, not from the movie. People can feel a lot bigger or smaller based on how you film them. Elijah Wood is not regular sized. He's 5'6" which in 90% of countries around the world is considered short for a male. |
| #14trappedsliderAug 02, 2011 13:30:33 |
and Catwoman is going to be in it as well, they may have elements of Knightfall, but it won't be knightfall, jsut like Dark Knight had elements of the long halloween and The killing Joke |
| #15zombie_babiesAug 02, 2011 13:32:21 | Elijah Wood is not regular sized. He's 5'6" which in 90% of countries around the world is considered short for a male. True, but in 90% of shires 5'6" is ****ing gigantic. ![]() |
| #16lofgrenAug 02, 2011 14:15:07 |
I don't recall many elements of the Killing Joke in Dark Knight, not the plot anyway. It had more in common with the Joker's first appearance in Batman #1, where he vows to kill several people on television and then proceeds to do so in mysterious means despite Batman's protection. In order to call a story an adaptation of the Killing Joke, I think you would need:
I don't remember the Long Halloween well enough to comment on that. In any event I highly doubt they could get away with titling the movie after one of the villains. On the other hand, for a Knightfall adaptation, all you need is:
Falling is more consistent than rising thematically and tonally with the first two movies, which were about Batman battling hopelessly against urban decay and collapse, giving every impression that he is desperately fighting a rising tide by trying to punch individual waves in the face, with zero awareness of the simpe fact that he'll never accomplish anything except getting all wet. If Batman is going to accomplish anything in Gotham he needs to learn that he can't do it by putting out brush fires, and Bane is the perfect man to teach him that, and (temporarily) falling is the perfect method because it evokes the line echoed from the first movie in the second: "Why do we fall?" "To learn to get back up." Plus Knightfall just sounds better. Dark Knight Rises sounds like the straight to DVD sequel tacked on and shot in two weeks when somebody realized the fine print wouldn't let him out of his contract. |
| #17ADHadhAug 02, 2011 14:16:48 | With the exception of the shire all of the hobbits while on screen with regular sized people were shot on green screen. This is not green screen work. Ok, someone already said it's not true, but I come with pictures: |
| #18lofgrenAug 02, 2011 14:23:19 | With the exception of the shire all of the hobbits while on screen with regular sized people were shot on green screen. This is not green screen work. |
| #19ADHadhAug 02, 2011 14:33:08 | Wow, two stills in a 9 hour movie! This is most certain proof positive that "most" of the scenes with hobbits and regular size people were greenscreened, since these two shots consist of the vast majority of Frodo's appearance in the film. (Or from, the original post "all except the ones in the shire," which is weird because both of these stills are from shire scenes and thus not pertinent to the claim.) Someone already mentioned all this, but did not provide stills. I have no idea what are you aiming at. Anyway, it is possible that Bane will be huge in the movie despite appearing small in afore linked pictures from the set. Apparently Nolan dislikes CGI as well, judging from the chase scene described in the Cracked article. He may be using similar techniques. |
| #20lofgrenAug 02, 2011 14:36:08 | I have faith that no matter what happens Ann Hathaway will be awesome as Catwoman. Also, David S. Goyer is not being credited with dialogue. Thank the gods. That man is a terrible, terrible writer. Great stories, don't get me wrong, but anytime he tries to write actual human speech you know you're in for trouble. As evidence, contrast Blade II, which had a story by Goyer but was almost completely rewritten by the director, with Blade III which was written entirely by Goyer. |
| #21lofgrenAug 02, 2011 14:37:24 |
My bad, I totally misunderstood your post. (Specifically, I missed the aren't in the Cracked article title.) |
| #22Crimson_ConcertoAug 02, 2011 14:42:30 | TOM HARDY IS SO SEXY! ![]() ![]() I'm actually very skeptical, though, about Ann Hathaway as Catwoman. Has she ever done anything more action oriented like this? Not that I doubt her acting ability, I just don't know that I've seen any evidence that this sort of role is in her range. I'd be happy to be wrong, of course. |
| #23lofgrenAug 02, 2011 14:46:54 | It's well outside the range of anything she has done before, but I've been continually impressed by her acting chops. I have faith she can make it work. The major obstacle will be whether or not Nolan can write decent dialogue for a woman, something that Memento and the last two Batman movies suggest might be somewhat beyond his abilities. |
| #24zombie_babiesAug 02, 2011 15:15:07 | Guys, she's done action. Get Smart, anyone? Seriously, though? She's like the hawtest chick in Hollywood and I personally can't wait to see her in a leather Catwoman getup. And dialogue? **** that. |
| #25trappedsliderAug 02, 2011 16:42:20 | I don't recall many elements of the Killing Joke in Dark Knight, not the plot anyway. It had more in common with the Joker's first appearance in Batman #1, where he vows to kill several people on television and then proceeds to do so in mysterious means despite Batman's protection. Goyer, who penned the first draft of the film, cited the DC Comics 13-issue comic book limited series Batman: The Long Halloween as the major influence on his storyline. Nolan suggested Batman: The Killing Joke influenced a section of the Joker's dialogue in the film, in which he says that anyone can become like him given the right circumstances. And to go with your hting, why wasn't the episode of BTAS that introduced Bane into the cartoon simply titled "Knightfall?" It had bane vs batman too...even went so far as to have Bane get ready break his back jsut like in the comic |
| #26lofgrenAug 02, 2011 16:46:44 | Nolan suggested Batman: The Killing Joke influenced a section of the Joker's dialogue in the film, in which he says that anyone can become like him given the right circumstances. So it's as I said, a bit of dialogue capturing the Joker's philosophy (such as it is) was taken from Killing Joke, but the plot really was not an adaptation of that story.
Just because an adaptation uses Bane doesn't mean it must use the title Knightfall and/or must be an adaptation of that series. It's just so perfect in this case because follows so logically from the previous installments. |
| #27CCSAug 02, 2011 17:56:42 | Remember, this is the dude who broke Batman's back, leading to the Azrael stories. You say this like any of that was a good thing. |
| #28draco1119Aug 02, 2011 20:47:54 | Remember, this is the dude who broke Batman's back, leading to the Azrael stories. Just that Bane did what no other villain was able to do. Bring down the Batman for a sustained period of time. |
| #29homicidal_squirrelAug 02, 2011 21:15:19 | Remember, this is the dude who broke Batman's back, leading to the Azrael stories. Bane will probably bring Batman down for a bit, but I'm sure it will differ from the comics. You have to remember that they are working with a movie that has to be over in about 2... maybe 2 and a half hours. They can't really cripple Batman and then give him some months to start walking again. The time requirements mean that there will be changes to the story. So far, Nolan has done a pretty damn good job with the story. |
| #30draco1119Aug 02, 2011 21:28:03 | They can't really cripple Batman and then give him some months to start walking again. Sure they can. Some new super-villain breaks him in half even before the credits. During opening credits you show a montage showing how much worse of a ****-hole Gotham has become. Then get into the story. Easy peasie. |
| #31homicidal_squirrelAug 02, 2011 21:35:33 | They can't really cripple Batman and then give him some months to start walking again. Meh... I'm not a fan of movies using "To Be Continued..." I don't know how many people would like it. |
| #32draco1119Aug 02, 2011 21:58:36 | They can't really cripple Batman and then give him some months to start walking again. No, not a TBC thing. Break his back before the OPENING credits. |
| #33lofgrenAug 02, 2011 23:49:45 | That would be sweet. AND it would explain why the title is "Rises" instead of "Falls." I think you might be on to something here. |

| #40lofgrenAug 03, 2011 23:43:27 | The whole point of innuendo is that the only people who understand it have already experienced with the explicit facts that are being alluded to. The only people who could possibly object to what was said are people who are already well familiar with the topic. Anybody who could possibly be exposed to the inappropriateness of it who wasn't already well aware of certain normal and healthy bodily functions have no idea what was being discussed because it went right over their heads. The whole back-and-forth was less artful but no more explicit than a Donald Duck cartoon. (In fact, that last sentence of the second paragraph in this post was way more explicit.) |
