#3 boraxe Dec 16, 2010 12:04:15	Sweet. I love sniping. The idea of doing the job from stealth with a single well-placed shot is far more rewarding and satisfying than just spraying lead everywhere. In video games where sniping is an option I always opt for it. In the days before roles in an FPS I was called a camper, now I'm an essential member of the team.

#7 Cpt_Micha Dec 16, 2010 18:54:17	It might be heavy and big... but the there's no question about it's capabilities as a rifle. In terms of sheer performance it really is the Final Word. (unless someone's making someone bigger with better designed rounds?) I'd rather arm one sniper in a sniper team with one of these, and the other with this new updated rifle you linked than a pair of those rifles.

#10 zombie_babies Dec 17, 2010 13:33:24	There's new rounds out there making their way into sniper platforms.  The .338 Lapua Mag is excellent, for example, and holds the current record for confirmed kill by a sniper - a Brit who made the shot at 8,120'.  Hella impressive.  The overall length of a .338 Lapua is 3.68" and a .50 BMG is 5.45" - a substantial difference.  While it's not as good at trashing equipment, for soft targets it's at least as good.  And at closer ranges it can still destroy gear.  The main benefit, of course, is size. The .50 is just too big for a lot of applications - especially those involving mobility.  Modern warfare calls for fire teams equipped with their own sniper to combat enemy snipers in urban settings.  To ask these guys to hump all day carrying a gigantic weapon like a .50 would be asking them to compromise their ability to make the shot when the time came.  There is still, of course, a place for the .50 and I believe there always will be.  It's a great round that can handle all sorts of roles.  That just can't be said for many others.
