| #2Crimson_ConcertoJul 02, 2011 15:44:23 | Does this really surprise anybody? |
| #3Cpt_MichaJul 02, 2011 15:56:48 | Already knew that. It's common sense, the stuff has no calories, and has the same effect without making you feel more energetic at all (for non caffienated stuff). Also, who seriously thought diet soda was a substitute for you know Water? |
| #4calronmoonflowerJul 02, 2011 16:21:33 | There are people out there that will tell you that it is the corn sugar in soda that leads to an extra fattening effect, and thus should be banned as unhealthy, but here we have a similar effect without the sugar. |
| #5ADHadhJul 02, 2011 16:22:09 | Does this really surprise anybody? People who drink diet soda? They can't be doing it for the taste ![]() |
| #6sfdragonJul 02, 2011 16:24:51 | the term diet is misleading and fools the mind. you actually drink more diet soads thinking that you wont get fat... you drink 3 diets, your better off drinking one and a half regulars. anyway, if you really want a diet soda, pop oopen your coke, drink half and dich the rest. just becuase you bought it, does not make you required to drink it all |
| #7calronmoonflowerJul 02, 2011 16:25:14 | Does this really surprise anybody? As hard as it is to believe, some people DO like the taste. Personally most diet sodas taste weird to me with diet mountain dew and Dr Pepper being exceptions. |
| #8Crimson_ConcertoJul 02, 2011 16:27:01 | I'm more of a juice guy myself. Orange juice, apple juice, lemonade, cranberry juice, passion fruit juice, etc. I love it. Only the real stuff though. Fake juice is disgusting. |
| #9sfdragonJul 02, 2011 16:29:15 | jiuice milk and water.... I have colas , but I take them to work and drink them most of the time... |
| #10ADHadhJul 02, 2011 16:36:06 | I'm more of a juice guy myself. Orange juice, apple juice, lemonade, cranberry juice, passion fruit juice, etc. I love it. Only the real stuff though. Fake juice is disgusting. Orange and apple almost exclusively myself. And only 100% ones, not watered down Bear Gryll's Specials. |
| #11jetshieldJul 02, 2011 16:51:00 | Water, tea, juice, milk (if it's lactose fee), only occasionally do I drink soda. |
| #12pluisjenJul 02, 2011 16:56:39 | If you're going juice, you should do self mixed smoothie. Strawberry, pineapple, a spoon of honey, a bit of vanilla sugar, blended together and topped off with cinnamon... hmmmmm. Other then that; yeah obviously soda is bad for you, diet or no. Personally I drink mostly water with the occasional fruit juice. I only drink soda at parties or when I'm trying to keep awake (for coke anyway) |
| #13bone_nagaJul 02, 2011 17:46:39 | I don't understand. How is this new? I've known this since elementary school. |
| #14dirtyfrankJul 02, 2011 18:02:07 | There are people out there that will tell you that it is the corn sugar in soda that leads to an extra fattening effect, and thus should be banned as unhealthy, but here we have a similar effect without the sugar. It's not the corn syrup. lol It's the fact that it's a drink. When you eat you get full eventually. When you're drinking a liquid you can drink it all day long without slowing down. Put some calories into the liquid and well with enough liquid you can easily pass over 2k calories a day. I believe it's about something like 150 calories in 12 oz of soda. 12 sodas should put a person around 1,800. If someone replaces all their water with milk, juice, soda, beer or what have you then yeah as long as their getting enough liquids they'll gain weight. That is especially true if they don't exercise much. |
| #15capitan_estabanJul 02, 2011 22:34:56 | It will be interesting to see if obesity is still a problem in South Africa after consumers stop eating/drinking foods with aspartame. |
| #16calronmoonflowerJul 02, 2011 22:55:30 | There are people out there that will tell you that it is the corn sugar in soda that leads to an extra fattening effect, and thus should be banned as unhealthy, but here we have a similar effect without the sugar. Yet there are some that say soda with corn sugar makes you fatter than it would with cane sugar. |
| #17dirtyfrankJul 02, 2011 23:20:37 | There are people out there that will tell you that it is the corn sugar in soda that leads to an extra fattening effect, and thus should be banned as unhealthy, but here we have a similar effect without the sugar. There are a lot of people that say a lot of things. the problem with a lot of health related studies is that there never seem to be any large scale studies or follow up studies to confirm results. Many of these rumors about things like corn syrup, transfat and whatnot were gained from small oneshot studies. They might be correct but with having a small sample and no repeat experiments from other labs then scientifically (and intellectually) the results can't be taken seriously. |
| #18KeinoJul 03, 2011 0:17:52 | I don't understand the mentality of people who drink diet soda. I mean, if it doesn't taste as good as the non-diet version, and is obviously not healthy, then why drink it? Substituting a bit of taste for a bit healthier of a drink doesn't seem like a good trade when the whole point of the drink is to taste good. If you want to be healthy, then just cut soda altogether. I like the taste of water, but I would put it at 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. Kool-aid is like 7, Mountain Dew and crush orange soda are like 9, real fruit juice or smoothies and the like are all 10, but I rank all diet drinks as obsolete, and therefore worse than water. (Obviously there are outside factors that give stat bonuses to certain drinks, like +4 to water and -6 to soda if it is hot out.) Basically, what I'm trying to say is that you couldn't give me diet drinks, I would rather have water. Actually, now that I think about it, I won't drink anything that is worse than water... All of this is just my opinion of course. |
| #19homicidal_squirrelJul 03, 2011 1:01:59 | I used to work at a theater. I remember that during the weeks in the morning we would get the big customers coming in. It was probably because the theaters were empty and they didn't have to worry about anyone sitting next to them. There used to be this couple who came in. They were big. The guy was tall and he could have easily been pushing 400 lbs. His wife was also pretty tall and she was probably pushing somewhere in the 300s. Every time they came in they would each order a large bucket of popcorn, a pretzel, a hot dog, and some nachos with cheese. They had bought some special cups the theater had sold during some promotion. It was basically the size of a 2 liter bottle. They would always fill it up with diet coke. As for people that think corn sugar is better or worse than cane sugar... they are both sugars. Your body reacts to sugar the same way in both cases. The only special thing about "artificial" sugars is that your body takes a lot longer to process them. That's why diabetics can have artificial sweeteners. Their sugar levels stay stable because their bodies take so long to process the sugars. |

| #21QubeJul 03, 2011 4:30:58 | As for people that think corn sugar is better or worse than cane sugar... they are both sugars. forget sugar - actually, forget drinks! 1 coca cola can (not diet) (330 ml 'sugarwater'): 139 KCal 1 cote d'or mignonette (10 gr choclat): 227 KCal (that's 60 percent more!) |
| #22GarthanosJul 03, 2011 6:13:10 | And you can probably find convincing studies that most diet soda is worse for you long run... than that with more natural sugars in it...(unless you are diabetic) And many fast foods are actually fairly dietarily balanced etc. And I know people who eat better etc and end up in there 300s and others who live on snack foods who weigh 150 lbs and so on and so on .... And people who are really over weight with perfect colesterol and blood pressure etc and other who seem quite a bit more trim - whos significant bp col heart rate etc are terribad without meds (myself) (hint genetics is a huge factor) |
