Cell phones are a distraction while driving. It doesn't matter if you talk, text, look at maps, or watch porn - it's all a distraction. Since the California law has been on the books for a few years now, I don't see a problem with it.

You only say that because you don't have a car. By the way, doesn't the maps app you have on your phone give you voice dirctions to your destination?

Nope. If it gives voice directions, that's entirely different. I'd liken that to using a Bluetooth, which is legal in CA.

Well, they must have had a good reason. Cuz we all know that lawmakers never make mistakes when they write laws. And of course judges never issue rulings that have a wider scope than the original issue. Also, your mom's face.
