| #1WebsterMar 28, 2012 21:57:09 | kotaku.com/5896996/the-next-playstation-... Now, I never buy used games because many people don't know how ot handle them as carefully as I do. I've seen too many scratched discs. Plus, the price difference between a new game and a used one at one particular retailer is three bucks. Really. Having said that, I don't like the idea of anti-used games software. What if it fails? What if it won't play my brand new game, claiming it's "used"? What if I delete it off the hard drive, and don't play it for 6 months? Will it then be called "used" even though I'm the original purchaser? |
| #2Robin_HoodlumMar 28, 2012 22:00:50 | Web... I always buy new. A good website for boardgames is... www.thoughthammer.com/ They are cheaper, but S&H is a mitigatory. Hope this helps! |
| #3Robin_HoodlumMar 28, 2012 22:02:48 | Oops!![]() Jumped the gun on that one Web! sORRY! |
| #4WebsterMar 28, 2012 22:12:51 | No problem. Thanks for the link! (I love board games too!) |
| #5The_SilverswordMar 29, 2012 0:40:32 | kotaku.com/5896996/the-next-playstation-... Im a stickler for taking care of discs as well, im always having to beat kids cause they leave games out, most of the times theyll leave the game out right next to its case, i mean cmon how lazy can you be? the case is right freakin there, sometimes i think they just like getting beat. But any way i do still buy used games from time to time, find some pretty good deals, recently picked up the clone wars for like 10 bucks, its a decent game, and makes a pretty fun multi player gaming expierence, so yeah this news sucks, and i was looking foward to the Playstation 4. And the thing that gets me, other than the having to pay again for used games, is that the way the article reads each game will be keyed to a particular user on the console, not the console it self, so im expectin to pay 60+ dollars for a game and then have to turn around and buy the game again for each user? thats ridiculous!! I cant see too many people being happy with that, i dont see that particular feature lasting, or if it does, i cant see the playstation 4 lasting. And xbox, from the sound of it is going the same route, screw that man, so i guess im just going to say screw the next gen consoles, and just listen to all my friends and stick with pc gaming from now on. |
| #6Cpt_MichaMar 29, 2012 9:16:07 | Yeah. I'm not going next gen if I can't buy used games. You can get some really good deals that way. Oh here's another kicker about this idea.. no more borrowing your friends games. Also what the hell is this going to do the rental industry? Furthermore I have an easier way to gaurantee more game sales without screwing and angering your customers. Stop releasing everything at Christmas the market for games at the holidays is well beyond being over saturated. The first batman title proved (and a few others) that summer releases can sell just as strongly. |
| #7Count_Von_CoCMar 29, 2012 10:58:44 | Yeah. I'm not going next gen if I can't buy used games. This. I still haven't bothered to get a PS3, in large part because it wasn't backwards-compatible. This will just push me farther away. |
| #8Mad_JackMar 29, 2012 18:35:35 | I'm finally getting around to picking up a used PS3 this weekend, mostly because it plays dvds/blu-rays and the dvd player down here in my basement has issues with the door not always opening when I hit the button... I'm not a gamer at all - I've got way too many other hobbies, and mainly throw in a game once or twice a month when I'm bored and feel like screwing around for an hour or two. The one I'm getting isn't backward-compatable, but I decided to go with it anyway because I can also pick up a used PS2 for like $30 at the same Game Stop... I'm just going to go pick up a splitter at Radio Shack so I can hook them both up. I only ever buy used games - in the entire time since the Playstation came out, I can probably count on one hand the number of new games I've bought... If the PS4 isn't backward compatable with my big old stack of PS2 games, there's absolutely no point to me buying one at all. |
| #9bone_nagaMar 29, 2012 20:18:49 | Yeah. I'm not going next gen if I can't buy used games. I bought the backwards compatible version and paid to get it fixed when it broke. |
| #10bone_nagaMar 29, 2012 20:24:52 | Right now it sounds like there is no reason for me to bother with a next gen system. |
| #11draco1119Mar 29, 2012 22:45:17 | Yeah. I'm not going next gen if I can't buy used games. They're a pain to find now. I'll probably get a PS3 eventually. I mean, at some point, I'll want a way to play Blu-Rays. Heck, maybe even when the PS4 comes out. My step-father has a friend who works at one of Sony's console assembly plants. My step-father got a free PS3 from the guy essentially as soon as they were released. Maybe he'll get a PS4, and I'll get his PS3. ![]() |
| #12zombie_babiesMar 30, 2012 8:31:50 | I don't understand the need for backwards compatibility. I mean, if you want PS3 ecxclusives and 360 exclusives, you'll have both systems. So, if you want PS2 exclusives and PS3 exclusives, why not just have both systems? Plus you've already got one of 'em. I mean, dood. At my house we have two DSs, a Game Cube, a Wii, an Xbox, a PS2 and a PS3. Backwards incompatibility? Not a problem. And if you've got the previous gen system already, it isn't a problem for you, either. Is it less convenient? Sure. But who cares? You can still get the job done - it just takes like an extra 10 seconds to swap a cable or two (if you even need to do that). And it's not like trading your previous gen machine in makes any sense at all. You'll get like $5 for it. Yay. I mean, like srsly. That's got nothing to do with the proposed PS4 stupidity, though. If it can't play used games that's a whole different kettle of birds in the hand. |

Not everyone keeps their older consoles, but more imporantly even with switch boxes you only have so much room in an entertainment area to work with. (and so many ports to plug stuff into) Backwards compatibility was actually the reason I initially got the 360 instead of the PS3. Or you might have to store your PS2 or whatever somewhere else to make room. But it's honestly a -minor- issue. The used game thing on the other hand.. there's too many ramifications for this to be a good idea. |
| #14zombie_babiesMar 30, 2012 8:44:15 | That's all I'm sayin'. There's no good reason to get rid of your old console if you like the games you have for it. At most it'll take a couple of minutes to take it out of the closet and hook it up. The problem isn't a problem. |
| #15Cpt_MichaMar 30, 2012 9:46:44 | There's another factor to consider. I never owned an original Xbox... when I got my 360 effectively I got an Xbox as well for free, and I've enjoyed exploring some of the titles that I missed in the last console cycle. |
| #16draco1119Mar 30, 2012 10:22:36 | At my house we have two DSs, a Game Cube, a Wii, an Xbox, a PS2 and a PS3. Some of us have to make things called "choices". I have a PS2 and a PSP that I can't afford to fix. I don't have the money for a new system, and if I did I'd still have to "choose" between a PS3 or an XBox 360. I can't have nice things a bunch of toys. And now I hate you. ![]() There's another factor to consider. I have to try to find a copy of FFT since my kids broke mine. I can play it on my PS2 (even though it was a basic PlayStation game), but I wouldn't be able to on a PS3. |
| #17ADHadhMar 30, 2012 10:56:27 | Backwards compatibility also means more games when the platform starts. |

Meh, we've had the game cube for like 10 years, the Xbox for like 7 or something, the Wii for 5-ish, the PS2 for like 4 or 5 years (bought used), the PS3 for a year or two and one of the DSs is first gen. We make choices. too. Specifically the choice not to throw any game system we may still have a use for away. ![]() |

| #20zombie_babiesMar 30, 2012 15:01:47 | dood, if the alternative to hoarding vidya game systems is whining about other systems not being backwards compatible, I'd much rather be a hoarder. Cuz at least what I do makes sense. |

| #23The_SilverswordMar 31, 2012 1:11:57 | the main reason im ****ed about the no backwards compatibility is because they gave it to us on the ps2, which i though was a kick ass idea, and convientent for me as well being as my ps1 died and i still had all these ps1 games, so it worked out. So anyway cool feature right, then they say the ps3 is going to be totally compatible with ps2 and ps1, then its like well ok only select models will have it, then its ok you know what? screw it. so cool feature gone, and its not like we got some other cool feature in its place, like games run faster now and will never crash haha! so thats my main beef on the backwards compatibility (did i spell that right?) thing, they promised us man, they promised!! |
| #24bone_nagaMar 31, 2012 15:45:34 | To me, backwards compatibility matters. It keeps my entertainment area from being cluttered up with extra stuff. It means I don't need to maintain 2 systems (both of my PS2s broke, my PS3 eventually did but that was from being dropped, it didn't just quit due to me using it a lot). It means I don't need to store 2 separate sets of controllers (and my PS2 controllers were all corded, I don't feel like buying new controllers and the PS3 controllers are still better than the PS2 wireless controllers). It means when I'm going overseas and I have limited packing space, I can play a lot of different games off of one system and one controller. So yeah, backwards compatibility makes my life a lot easier, and paying an extra $100 for the backwards compatible version ended up being cheaper in the long run and was a lot more convenient for me. |
| #25EscherEnigmaMar 31, 2012 16:55:13 | Also what the hell is this going to do the rental industry? ... there's still a rental industry? And to the original issue... meh. They already figured out with Steam on the PC that even without used games you can continue to sell old games by dropping the price appropriately and so-on. So if they want to be successful, they already have a model to follow while keeping with this plan. Of course, they could always be stupid. But eh. We'll see. |
