okay. I keep seeing this Nadia Sulaiman chick on the news, and all I can think is about how amazingly mentally unhealthy this woman seems. shes literally addicted to giving birth. and on top of that, she's a single mom with no job. guess what? that means taxpayers are gonna pay to raise all 14 of those rambuctious little scamps. Im not okay with that. also, already it has been said that a few of her kids are autistic or some such. I really think this woman need serious, serious help. shes not healthy!

likely from the taxpayer's money, or from donations. She is trying to have all those kids so she can be a celebrity. I say that the children should be taken away. She seems to be unstable. She is trying to be a leech on society, sucking away money that she does not deserve.

She had like, six or seven to begin with (and was having a hard time raising them) and then decides she wants more. She is not financially stable enough to care for them, and she cannot take care of their emotional needs as well. I think the doctor that did this needs to lose his license.

Something like 14. As for the fuss...

...funny you should say that. A charitable organization in California offered her a couple hundred thousand dollars in free child care and financial aid. She declined the free professional care and the thousands upon thousands of dollars in clothes, activities, and necessities for her children... because "she's holding out for her own reality tv show".

Having kids is easy. Raising 14 or whatever on your own is a different animal altogether. The problem appears when we consider where all the money to raise them will come from (hint: it ain't mommy) and exactly what kind of life these kids will have. And, as others have mentioned, her motives are far from noble. She is an attention ***** with major mental problems. Not exactly mommy of the year material. ;)

No, no. You misunderstand me. Simply by starting a thread about this woman you (or anyone) raise the status of this woman to a level that she does not deserve or require. The more you discuss her, the more ingrained the woman become in your mind, and the more you feel compelled to discuss her. And then so do all those around you. Eventually more and more people discuss her until, well everybody is discussing her.

And that is a form of glorification. Whether you discuss her negatively or positively is besides the point.

Mar 17, 2009 8:52:20
The word "glorify" can also be used to describe anything being praised in one form or another, whether negatively or otherwise. True the most common and most understood form of this word means exactly as you say it, but the word can also be used in a negative light as well.

*shrug*

It simply seemed the easiest way to be highly sarcastic about the subject, and still make a point. Next time I'll just use simple words. And yes, I'm just teasing there.
#33

zombie_babies

Mar 17, 2009 8:59:11
Actually, every definition that I'm aware of stresses only the positive. You can make something appear better than it is through glorifying it, but that's not what's happening here.

Anywhoo, I agree with the idea that these conversations bring unwarranted attention to octomom - and, in the process, realize her wishes and feed the machine. But dem's da breaks. We live in a society that's largely populated by fools. My favorite example is the death of princess Di. So many American women were literally convulsing in anguish when she was turned into pavement paste. Why? Because that's what everybody else was doing. And because they're dumb (not women - the sheep that do not think about why they're doing something incredibly moronic - and that group includes plenty of men, too).

We all can be fools from time to time. The people that are the problem, however, make a living at it. ;) And no, I am in no way implying that any part of this discussion indicates either party is a fool. We're fools for plenty of real reasons, I'm sure. :D

Truthfully. I don't care who she is or how many brats she squeezes out. And if she uses artificial means to get pregnant, it's only cuz the crazy is so prominent even guys at last call look at her and say "I'm not touching that one."

Lets get Michael Madsen and Marg Helgenberger to put a team together and put her down like they did the chick from Species.

The world record for having the most number of children officially recorded is 69 by the first of two wives of Feodor Vassilyev (1707-1782), a peasant from Shuya, 150 miles east of Moscow. In 27 confinements, she gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets. The children were born between 1725-1765.

I think that you guys are being too extreme. I don't think that we have the right to prevent someone from having children. I do think that the doctor who went through with the procedure should be banned from the medical profession, however, because doctors are supposed to "do no harm", but there couldn't have been anything but harm to come of it. She should be ignored. She shouldn't be given any freebies or attention. She should be left to work the way the rest of us are. If she can get her family and friends to help her, so be it. But it is not the responsibility of the public to support her. And if she is incapable of supporting the children herself, then she should be subjected to the same thing that any other person unable to take care of their children is: they should be taken by social services. I don't think that being taken from their family is good for children, but if she can't support them, they aren't going to live a happy life, and she is crazy anyway. Basically, I don't think that we have the right to barge into her life and tell her whether she can reproduce or not, but I think that we have the right to protect children that are already brought into the world if she can't and we have the right to ignore her.

So what if she had eight kids? We have the means avaliable to provide for way more people then there are in the world! There's only six billion people in the world. That's hardly a dent when you realize just how big the earth is...

All this is, is media *****dom. How can we make a poor woman with the freakish uterus into a sideshow? And ofcourse, let's dwell on the negative that she has eight kids. As if kids are nothing but acid and big metal spikes, destroying all that is fun and good!

We should be happy. Eight little miracles. Maybe one of them will get this world on the right track. Heck, I don't want to steralize anybody. Just castrate them. The difference? One prevents you from getting preggerz, the other prevents you from enjoying sex. We should have the ability to reproduce when and if we need it. But noone has a right to have the enjoyment of sex! Infact, I don't think anyone (save me and Julz) deserves that privlage... because people are *******s!

So I wouldn't steralize anyone. Simply make everyone at a reasonable age when they start thinking about sex. Maybe fifteen, try to get their sex liscence. It can be revoked, denied, etc. And once they cross the line, bam! Castration. No sex for you!

Actually a rather interesting thing is my Special Problems in Criminal Justice class had this same discussion just a few days ago. With most arguing that the courts, CPS, or just the police step in and remove the children from her. Unfortunately the reality is that none of those mentioned have a legal right for doing so. There are no laws throughout all the US that limit or regulate the number of children you can have. The doctor could be in trouble because he put in 8 embryos which is generally frowned upon cause more than 2 and the children begin to suffer in the womb. But as for the mom she exists in a current legal void since there is very little actual law or case precident on how the legal system might actually get involved, closest they could come to a legal investigation would be one of child endangerment but unless it's something overt the legal system will most likely not want to open that proverbial can of worms. And with so much media attention CPS will likely wait til something drastic happens before even considering to take the children for fear of a public backlash or over zealous ACLU lawyer wanting to make a name for themselves.

I hope you're kidding. Well, I know you're kidding at the very end, but I hope you're kidding about wanting to castrate people. The only reason why I ask is because there are people who believe that it is wrong for women to take enjoyment from sex and those countries castrate women. From what I understand, castration doesn't prevent a man from enjoying sex, but I also have no way of knowing considering that I'm female and not a male eunuch.

Flavor of the we(a)ek is kind of the vibe I'm getting from this media frenzy ona social level. Best Actor/Actress gets a footnote for a day or 2 despite years of honing their skill, perfecting art, giving it their all in film 'x', etc., but this abberrant life support for a uterus is getting in an inordinate amount of face time. What has warranted this attention? Why?
On a personal/moral one, it's egocentrism. Gluttony in an askewed degree.

Consider:
She hasn't given the future of these kids much consideration of her own in other words. Kids are needy, desperate creatures (defense mechanism) that compete for attention cuz' they need it. Now, w/ 14 of them, how much "mom time" do you think each one will get? Toss in a bunch of news crews, wierdo press releases, talk shows, etc...How adjusted do you think they will be upon maturity? Outlook is grim to say the least.
Time, being the only measure you can count on, will play out, then they go on to have relationships, likely deficient ones, then have kids of their own, passing on a great deal of what they became/who they are as products of their current environment.

Financially, how is it that DINKS (double income no kids) more often than not, have to bust ass in this country to get by, especially in this econ, and this birthing factory is getting a free ride like so many of the popular failed business CEOs? Who is paying for all this? Seems orchestrated from the start. What single parent, baring 6+ figure salary, could afford that? The logistics must be staggering...but, oh wait, govt. handout to the rescue!

What's more, we have WIC, we have Welfare, food stamps, bla bla bla, and far too many cases I hear, see, and worked w/ are blatant exercises in abuse and me-too, me-too! You rarely hear about the, "Thank God for the govt. check, those kids needed milk and bread badly." The above posters' allusion to paychecks, later ones to taxation, and the outright ethical dilemma speaks volumes. Good mention ppl. IDK how this came to be.
In other lands, you have a lot of kids cuz' you hope a few will survive, help work the farm, and care for you when you're old and gray. Now, they're accessories for some to accomodate one's psychosis like a Prada bag.

Legalality, yes, it's your biological right to have kids/sex lawfully, however, it's gotten out of hand. Seems like only the intelligent tax-paying citizens, err, consumers, are having reasonable family sizes cuz', wait for it, they can afford it financially for one. Two, they can allocate the necessary time to the kids and raise them to be good ppl too. This is not to say there aren't, for example, some rather large families w/ lots of love to spare that don't take a dime in handouts...cuz' they planned ahead and have integrity. But that's what's missing. Many have grown accustomed to the privledge (not right).
Decency/integrity are no longer commodities in American life in many ways. Thus, you get entire generations of families on welfare, just gettin' by cuz' they can. Nevermind we have tons of social programs to get one up and running. Throw a dog a bone long enough, it expects it. Deny it after so long, it will turn on you all tooth and claw.

Anyway, if you can't afford them, why does someone else have to take up your slack and pay? Is it facist to require a license then to prove you are capable as a fit parent, but also that you won't be screwing 300 million Americans as well? Perhaps just tax the Hell out of them like they do in China (you can have more than 1 baby in Beijing, but block mothers lean heavilly on you and the govt. taxes you heavilly).
Yes, rights are rights (having kids), but when your rights start trampling another's financial rights (unfair taxation, which we rebelled against in our nation's inception btw), well, what's right then? Chemical sterilization until you can afford a pill to turn you back "on" to have 'x'? Sounds facist which I abhor, but what about the little guy?

The whole Octomommy debacle is turning into Mike Judge's "Idiocracy". Only the stupid are breeding in numbers as the wise know affordability and reason are at stake and don't. However, we rule by majority in a democracy, no? Eventually, like before, time will have it's way, those stupid will keep spawning like so many rats, demand their due representation, and perpetuate the viscious cycle of stupidity and living beyond their means.

Is that not what the current economic crisis was rooted in? Scary parallel.
That's just money and it hurts, but when we're dealing w/ human lives of 75+ yrs., it makes a few years of recession/depression seem like small potatos. And it will keep growing. You can slash a budget, be fiscally conservative, whatever, but when you do that to ppl they call it genocide...

I was serious. But I was under the impression castration can prevent both sexes from feeling good.

I mean really, how is a man suppose to feel good from sex if his ***** is butchered? I'm not an expert. But that just doesn't seem very likely to me...

I speak from exprience. I'm not castrated. But I have nerve problems, so I don't really feel a whole lot down there. Sex for me is like, tylenol I guess. It's great for headaches, and it feels good yeah. But not oh my GOD! So amazing! Maybe other people are just hypocondriacs and I look at things so objectively I'm like "so this is it?"

Frankly I'd rather sleep then have sex. Sleep, or go bowling, or do anything else. All sex is good for is having some sweaty hairless ape ontop of you and then your covered in goo and shame lol! No thanks.

But I digress from my point. Even though I feel people should be wholly castrated, because I just don't like people. In practical terms I think octomom is just a fluke scenario and hey, it's noone's concern. So she has a bunch of kids? Big deal. It use to happen all the time in the old days! Maybe not fourteen, but alot of kids...

Saying "she's leeching off the system" is a copout.

A: Then it's not her fault. It's the system's fault. If there wasn't a system to leech off of then you couldn't get upset.

B: Better the system work for a single mother who has a bunch of kids then some crackhead who "needs help kicking his habit". I don't feel sorry for people's suffering. But atleast this is going to children. Which is what government should be thinking about, if anything at all.

C: I don't believe all the hype that she "did this for the lulz". I don't think anyone's that big of an attention *****. And if they are, hey, let them have the attention. Squeezing out fourteen kids is a feat in and of itself lol!

I don't know, I just really like kids. So I tend to not see the negative. Kids, Julz, and animals. I love them.

It's everyone else I can't stand. XP

Unfortunately the reality is that none of those mentioned have a legal right for doing so. There are no laws throughout all the US that limit or regulate the number of children you can have.

Maybe the fire marshall could remove some of them. What is the maximum occupancy for residential homes anyway?

It depends on the size of the home. If what I've been hearing about her being given a big house is true, then she is not likely to exceed maximum occupancy.

However many you can fit before someone calls CPS on you.

castration (becoming a eunuch) is the equivalent of female circumcision. What you guys are talking about is two different, but similar ideas... I imagine referring to vasectomy and having the ol' tubes tied.

It is a fact, though, that the mom was offered over 1 million dollars and dental/health for her children to work for vivid entertainment. She refused, I suppose, because blogging on radar seems to be more profitable.

It's the principle (IMO); a normal isolated incident like this isn't that big a deal, however, you give enough media attention to this "person" that is easilly digested by the mass populace, well, that symbol has much more power. It sets a theme, dare-I-say, a standard in some mindsets that is intolerable, thus perpetuating the problem. A small problem adopted by enough ppl becomes the paradigm.

Not to mention our retarded wars of conquest overseas...

Not that I'm agreeing w/ the impetus or execution of the Afghani or Iraqi theatres of warfare, but this is perhaps an irresponsible statement. If we had "conquered" either of these regions, the stars and stripes would be flying over Baghdad and Kabul, there wouldn't be general elections, and so forth. Had we simply invaded for pure territorial expansion, our current economic situation would seem petty compared to the fallout from the world opinion; massive trade embargos and political censoring beyond the current scope. How popular were the Soviets when they rolled in during '79? After?

that cost us TEN BILLION DOLLARS a month....thats been going on for SIX YEARS...i think this crazy lady is the least of our worries.

7 yrs if I'm not mistaken. Anniversary was a week or so back (Iraq).
And yes, excessive waste, truly. These conflicts could be fought much cheaper and more efficiently. Military-industrial complex anyone? We pay through the nose surely ($), but so many of our troops are getting the real shaft.
The crazy lady in question, in the big picture, is a diversion of more pressing issues. However, as a symbol, she is a blight on American socialiation, and therefor dangerous and misleading to an otherwise good country that is losing its way.

dirtyfrank: Those in government are sucking more money out of the government than those on Wall Street could ever imagine.

QFT
Bigger govt. = bigger waste usually.
ex)FBI, a great idea and terribly necessary one. But, apparently, it wasn't enough, thus spawning the DEA and ATF for one. Previously, both spheres of influence under the FBI's aegis. What happened? Rather than expand it numbers, budgets, and adjust accorindgly, they ramp up 2 new entities w/ much larger larger budgets, personel, and clout.
Too much compartmentalization has caused them to compete, waste more $, and bloat their numbers beyond what was needed. But, it gives more power & money to those at the helm. It would've been cheaper and more effective to have specialized units and logistics w/in 1 body than to make a bunch of seperate ones that do the same thing, but w/ less cohesion and much larger budgets.

Castration removes the berries, not the twig.

The Chinese snipped both on their eunuchs. I think going that route would probably remove any pleasure that could be derived from sex.
