Eventually he breaks it off cuz she can't come home, she is sad and decides to stay with her family/friends because there isn't a whole lot left for her there now. I dunno, all sorts of plausible explanations. |

The vetting process was what found that his wife was on the No-Fly-List. Had he decided to stay at his position or moved to another that did not require higher clearance, his wife would still be stuck. |
