| #1kidsJun 28, 2009 10:19:11 | (honestly not sure if this is a better fit ofr Leaders, general, races or development forum) I'd like to see some of your outlandish contraptions made when you tried to convert a concept that's not exactly originally fantasy into D&D (in this case, 4E since it is more flexible for that purpose). ------------------------------------------------------- My contribution: ====== Created Using Wizards of the Coast D&DI Character Builder ====== Optimus Prime, level 4 Warforged, Artificer FINAL ABILITY SCORES Str 10, Con 17, Dex 10, Int 18, Wis 14, Cha 10. STARTING ABILITY SCORES Str 8, Con 14, Dex 10, Int 17, Wis 14, Cha 10. The druid multiclass feat serves to give him Wild Shape, which is reflavored as his truck form. It is not a fighting form, but if needed he can try to run someone down like any other vehicle would (Pounce on charge) and he retains all of his Warforged attributes while in that form. Playable from level 1 to 30, depending on desired power level! p.s. this wasn't inspired by the 2nd movie. I didn't like it at all. |
| #2Alex_Jun 28, 2009 11:00:54 | Funny idea. I don't know about Artificer though. Optimus doesn't do much repairing or technical stuff. That'd be ratchet. Optimus is definitely a Warlord. |
| #3GMforPowergamersJun 28, 2009 14:03:16 | Optimus is definitely a Warlord. I would go so far as Warlord!Fighter hybrid...he does kick serieus butt, and is normaly seen as the best warrior of the group |
| #4marshzdJun 28, 2009 14:12:43 | I like it! But...Only level 4? And with those low of stats? |
| #5sallaJun 28, 2009 14:23:35 | I like it! He did say he didn't like the movie. ![]() That, and this is live-action movie Prime. Animated G1 Prime would be a lot more badass. ![]() |
| #6TheBouncyPherretJun 28, 2009 14:39:01 | Funny idea. I don't know about Artificer though. Optimus doesn't do much repairing or technical stuff. That'd be ratchet. Have you SEEN the new movie? He's a TWF ranger! TBP |

| #8baneofelvesJun 28, 2009 14:42:10 | Optimus does NOT have a STR that low. No. This is not a good stat-up of him. I'd say that he would probably be a Warforged Tempest Fighter or something like that. |
| #9klivianJun 28, 2009 15:09:39 | Optimus is a classic paladin, he is the embodiment of a LG Paladin |
| #10baneofelvesJun 28, 2009 15:11:53 | Optimus is a classic paladin, he is the embodiment of a LG Paladin Ehh, I don't know about him being a Paladin. Fighter seems a bit more like it to me; you can be LG and not be a Paladin, you can be a Paladin and not be LG. |

| #12WhiteHarnessJun 28, 2009 17:50:49 | I think Optimus Prime would wear something better than leather armour. He'd be in scale, at least... |
| #13kidsJun 28, 2009 18:07:27 | Hahaha, the warlord builds are very much to my liking too! But my point in doing such a build is to have minimal reflavoring. For example, Warlord fits the style, but pushes Optimus to use all kinds of weapons that take a whole lot of reskinning to fit into his image, and fighter really makes him only a melee basher whereas he should have some varied abilities (doesn't he shoot at least some ranged weapons?). I liked Artificer because it had a nice mechanical feel from the start, though the STR thingy did bother me. I think his power level would be exactly that: level. A powerful, movie-like Optimus Prime is lvl 30, but that is not playable in most games. He can be statted at any level, depending on the power. But my goal was to find something that works even at level 1 (maybe Artificer Encounter 1 won't kill the dragon, but it is still very cool --- Shielding Cube = Allspark!). I feel I should elaborate a bit on the movies without trying to start a flamewar: I loved the first movie and was very disappointed with the second one. But that I didn't like it, you're right, is no reason to not take into account Optimus's TWF abilities from the second movie. What did you think? As much as I'd like to, I do not recommend seeing the second one :-| ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is something else, from the second movie! ![]() ====== Created Using Wizards of the Coast D&DI Character Builder ====== Ravage, level 4 Warforged, Rogue Rogue Tactics: Artful Dodger Pact Initiate: Pact Initiate (dark pact) FINAL ABILITY SCORES Str 12, Con 14, Dex 17, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 17. Warlock is good at higher levels for providing swarm, invisibility and mass attack powers that Ravage displays. A brutal scoundrel would be good as well, but then supernatural abilities would suffer a bit. Also playable from 1 to 30. Maybe someone will once run a Transformer game using D&D rules like these examples? p.s. Matrix of Leadership* Awesome idea!!! |
| #14kalstrandJun 28, 2009 18:28:26 | Optimus is a classic paladin, he is the embodiment of a LG Paladin I agree 100% that is is a paladin. Especially in the first movie. I won't quite go so far as to say he is LG but he is definately good. |
| #15tbone777Jun 28, 2009 18:49:37 | OMG this thread made me have a nerdgasm. I love you guys. |
| #16undraveJun 28, 2009 20:13:18 | Well Optimus Prime WAS the 'spiritual leader' of the whole Cybertronian race before High Protector Megatron created the Decepticon so I would see him as a Paladin of the AllSpark or Primus (though personally I'd rather have him as Palladin of Primus. Who wouldn't worship their own planet if it could turn into a ginormous robot? :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0q6YjOXQIc ). I wonder what kind of Channel Divinity power you'd get out of Primus... |
| #17ericoJun 28, 2009 20:24:50 | I agree with the others: Ratchet is a far better choice for Artificer than Prime. In a 4th Ed Transformers campaign, the title of "Leader" is...well, misleading. Prime is obviously the leader of the force, but at any time do we see big blue healing people or using funky powers? No, not hardly. Prime uses (Depending on the setting he's referenced from) various melee weapons and a mighty powerful blaster cannon. The best route to go would be to make Ratchet a Cleric/Artificer hybrid, but since there is no Artificer Hybrid association yet... Here's Ratchet as the warforged focused cleric! (I'm not going Artificer until the Character Builder uploads the new Artificer options...) Ratchet, Warforged Cleric Init +2 HP 42/42 Bloodied 21 Healing Surge 10 (0 used /9) AC 18 Fort 14 Reflex 13 Will 17 Speed -1 Str 12 (+3) Con 14 (+4) Dex 10 (+2) Int 12 (+3) Wis 18 (+6) Cha 10 (+2) Warforged Resolve POWERS: Lance of Faith Healing Word Split The Sky Cure Light Wounds Priest's Shield Channel Divinity Healing Strike Beacon of Hope This build of Ratchet takes advantage of his many years fighting the Decepticon menace; his wisdom through countless campaigns, and his ability to patch his teammates back together again. Not the strongest fighter on the squad, Ratchet isn't helpless: His Surgical EMP Emitter can be refocused to launch a dizzying array of energy attacks, and his arm-mounted repeating crossbow (I.E. Chaingun) serves him in a pinch. When the need requires him to get up close and personal, Ratchet relies on a heavy blunted mace to get the job done. That said, as Ratchet is one of the most grizzled members under Prime's leadership, he's considered slightly outdated by most. Not spry, not strong, he makes up for it with grim resolve and the knowledge that everything his experience has garnered may very well be the only thing keeping his teammates from shutting down and joining the Allspark. -Erico |
| #18undraveJun 28, 2009 20:38:40 | Well its not like Warlords do any actual healing. Optimus to me is closer to a Warlord with good CHA. Not sure which type though. Inspiring because he's obviously an inspiring prescence who can rouse his people into action. He could be Ressourceful since he can plan ahead use tactics on the fly. He often leads by exemple so he could at the very least have a few Bravolord powers. He should also have a decent WIS score since he can be insightful. Frankly 22 points just wouldn't work for such a mythic figure! A mighty wielder of the Matrix of Leadership! I think he should be stated out with like...30 points! |
| #19Alter_BoyJun 28, 2009 20:54:28 | Needs Druid Multi-classing. For Wild Shape! |
| #20undraveJun 28, 2009 20:58:39 | Ya know... Hasbro does own both Transformers AND WotC... and the Transformers multi-verse has Axiom Nexus who is a lot like Sigil so there is a chance for some multiplanar crossing over hehehehe... That would be an AWESOME and brand new 4e campaign setting right there XD Imagine Beast Wars with the TFs crashing in a DnD world and taking on the shape of various iconic monsters! Rattrap would have been dire XD |
| #21GMforPowergamersJun 28, 2009 21:14:22 | Needs Druid Multi-classing. For Wild Shape! I think you are thinking of optimus Primal |
| #22Alter_BoyJun 28, 2009 21:17:34 | I think you are thinking of optimus Primal If it doesn't transform, it ain't a Transformer! (But I would be interested in a homebrew "Vehicle Shape" class feature if you have it. ;) ) |
| #23undraveJun 28, 2009 21:42:27 | I think you are thinking of optimus Primal Which would be just as cool if you ask me. I'd see Primal as a Bravolord "Sometimes crazy works!" :p Until he went all Druid/Invoker in Beast Machines. |
| #24kidsJun 29, 2009 5:17:10 | Well, if we are going strictly by the movies, most of Optimus's actions involve marking Megatron to protect Sam. Thus he would be a Fighter and wouldn't need anything else. But if you were to play Optimus as an estranged transformer in some other world, he would probably do well with some diversification... Think about it - the Autobots crash land into Faerun or Eberron and learn Common from the World-Wide-Weave? :P |
| #25ryanthemagus1Jun 29, 2009 12:42:17 | Somewhat related; A player in my group created a Warforged Druid. His name? Optimus Primal. |
| #26lyranJul 06, 2009 17:07:21 | It's nice to see something like this. But I'm afraid that it would be definitely better to design transformers as monsters. I suppose you could adapt it to a race but otherwise building them like characters is not the way to go. As a matter of fact I'm going to be working on stats for The Fallen soon if anybody would like to help just send me a PM. I'm probably going to be stating out some other transformers as well Anyway, back to the main subject. I really think the level is way too low. And I'm going to agree with everybody else on the class decision. You’d probably be better off with a fighter/warlord mix. The ability scores are off. I like what you've done all around though, so here’s to you! :D |
| #27Dark_StrykeJul 08, 2009 13:31:37 | Somewhat related; That right there is pure. Unfiltered. Win. |
| #28toastedamphibianJul 08, 2009 18:40:51 | I'm sorry, quick question: Shouldn't all the transformers be Warforged Hybrid Druid/X ? |

Transformer has to transform to be good Transformer! NOOOES!!! Edit: Your right, not being able to swing your sword when your shaped like a truck is completly opposed to transformer lore.
