Why, I can already see the victims groups for aliens we havn't met yet forming up, and asking for gov't funding...
Unfortunately, I can too. I hate this species of over-sentimental morons. Thus, I need to figure out how I can trancend my humanity and therefore, my mortality. I am willing to trade emotion for these benefits (except rage. It takes so much to make me angry that most of the time it doesn't matter. When it does, rage will be aided by pure logic and cunning).
When scientists announce the discovery of new planets around near and distant stars, I experience both joy and sadness at the same time. I smile at the thought of the wonders we have achieved in such a short time and the endless posiblilities that the universe seems to offer. But I am saddened at the thought that I am almost certain to never visit these places myself, that I will never walk beneath alien skies the way my heroes did, the way I assumed I would when I was a younger.

It must be really depressing for you to be faced with every wondrous thing in the universe, every achievement of sicence and art, and see nothing but the reflection of your politicized anger.

This news always makes me happy too, the stars (the real ones, anyway) interest me greatly. To dream and wonder of worlds beyond this world...
I'm gonna need to watch some more sci-fi movies now.
Once we screw up this planet bad enough. *Ie force it into artificial ice ages etc. Drown enough cities before that etc*
The lazy route will be rather than fix this one, to go colonize another and let this one go to waste.
Venus would have to get all the CO2 out of the atmosphere (and condensed into rocks and other stuff) in order to make things breathable but also to lower the atmosphere pressures. It would be a pain to terraform but might be able to be done in the future. If so it could end up being very earth like. It's in the habital zone so natural liquid water. It's about the same size as earth so about the same gravity. It's just fixing the atmosphere that would be the problem.
Mars would be a dumb planet to colonize. It has no magnetic field. nuf said.
So the other option is to colonize a moon of jupiter or saturn.
The main concern though is that asteroids and comets are a real concern, as well as other cosmic things, and so it would be best if life existed on multiple planets. For safety reasons. I wouldn't be surprised that once we started traveling to distant exoplanets if we used a system where we colonized two planets at a time. But that's really far away unlike the idea of colonizing planets and moons in our own solor system.
