How did they manage to spend that much on landscaping?

This reminds me of Walden Two.

How did they manage to spend that much on landscaping

My guess... incompetence with a dash of corruption.

I keep saying I'm gonna get a few goats so I don't have to mow as often.

$15,000 a year is about $1,300 a month, which is (by my estimated guess based on european income standards) enough money to get a gardener for like... 10-15 hours a week? Not including any equipment cost.

I don't know how big that school or the grassy area is, but that doesn't sound outrageous to me.

$15,000 is what they saved, not what the spent.

Myeah ok...

Does it say anywhere how much they spent or how big the area is? If you can lay off a gardener or hire him for 10-15 hours less you'd still save the 15K a year.

Doesn't mention it, but it says it's the area near the school's solar panels. I'm not sure how big the solar panels are orhow many of them there are but my guess is that having large lawnmowers passing near by and possibly hitting them isn't very cost effective either.

You also have to consider who is actually doing the work. Some school districts are required to outsource certain work. Here in South Florida school districts put the contract out for bid. The lowest bid gets the contract1.

1 - That's how it "should" work; however, this beingSouth Florida, the job goes to the person who gives the biggest bribe.

According to the article, it fertilizes the grass. Just another cost cutting savings brought to you by sheep.

Ah yeah, I understand the concept. He who gets the least skilled, most demoralised, worst paid and least capable employees on the payroll, reels in all the "must take lowest bid" contracts.

And people wonder why stuff goes over budget.

Pretty much. It also makes you wonder... if the sheep are just maintaining the area around the solar panels, how much was the school being charged? I don't know how large an area the solar panels took up, but I would imagine for a school, it couldn't have ben that large.

Should be fixed.

Maybe it's but I keep getting an error. Oh well... in any case, the guy who cut that part of the lawn is probably cutting some other part. I'm guessing they were charging the school by the size of the plot they were maintaining and not the hour.

See... even more cost cutting. Kill off some kids and we can reduce class sizes. We could get rid of a bunch of teachers. There won't be a need for teachers if we have no kids in schools. Much less of my tax money being wasted. Heck, I say we have the kids eat lunch with the sheep. Maybe we can maximize the ecoli spread.

You  could also make the kids eat the sheep.

Alternatively, it would be cheaper to make the children graze on the fields. Cuts down on both gardening cost and the cafetaria.

No. The sheep are useful, the kids are not.

Possible, but then you are taking jobs away from blue-collar sheep. Then there is the problem of cleaning up the dead kids that couldn't evolve fast enough to survive on grass.

No. The grass they fed on before they die does not contain enough toxic chemicals provided by the food industry.

More fertilizer. No problem.

Takes too long. We need instant fertilization.

They can be processed, just like any other meat. Using kid meat would probably make Spam taste better.

It would also make the cost of spam go up. What would all those people who eat spam do then? You just don't care about America. Go back to China you commie!!!

Given the rate at which new kids are created, I'd think the cost would go down. I could be wrong. I'm no economist.

But black sheep have earned the death penalty and "eating" seems as good a way to execute them as any.

Why have black sheep earned the death penalty?

Black sheep are unrepentant criminals and are deserving of death!  Much like homocidal squirrels.  Oh, wait...  Nevermind.  Don't kill me!  Please!
