#1 mentis_veio Dec 31, 2008 16:45:05	I'll make this post short and sweet. Is anyone else on these forums bothered by the sheer lack of punctuation? I'm not saying everyone does it, but I have noticed quite a few people who write posts like Christopher Walken monologues. I'm not trying to be someone's high school english teacher, nor am I trying to say my contributions have been completely error free. I do see a problem, however, when I can't understand what someone is trying to say simply because they don't know where to place a period. Or because they apparently denounced the use of periods/punctuation altogether. I'm 21 years old, and to be quite honest, I am perfectly terrified of where this world is headed once my generation takes the helm. Punctuation and lack of interest in education is only the beginning. I feel like Denethor in the Return of the King, "Abandon your posts! Flee, flee for your lives!"

Hilarity aside, I do see much of the problem you're talking about on almost every forum I go onto, and they are always flamed for not taking part in correct grammar. there's not really much we can do besides report them and move on with trying to understand what they were saying
#5 minja_dup Dec 31, 2008 17:21:56	If I find the punctuation is really bad and the post very difficult to read then I simply skip it and move on. They just lose out on my awesome wisdom. :D It hasn't been my experience that this board gets too bad, but not everyone has the benefit of a solid education, or care enough to carefully review their work, it doesn't mean they don't have something meaningful to say.

#8 powercat Dec 31, 2008 18:07:38	My job includes proofreading news stories for publication, and it's boring. For some reason, though, I find myself instinctively proofreading people's message board posts. I genuinely wish the Internet had a red pen. I would flunk half the world.

Change doesn't have to be bad, just different. If these hooligans can communicate without periods and with butchered grammar, well, we might have to accept that its the way the cookie crumbles.

#23 skyodin Jan 02, 2009 2:27:53	I can honestly say that I haven't seen this as a major problem on these boards. The vast majority of posters here use punctuation, proper grammar, and good spelling. There are a few here and there who don't, but they are in the minority. There is a world of difference between these boards and many others that I have seen. So if you think this is bad, you really haven't seen the true depths of bad grammar on the internet.

#26 werral Jan 02, 2009 10:10:33	Periods are what women get once a month. Full stops are punctuation, at least that's how it is in Britain. But if reading these forums gives you period pains then I wouldn't worry too much about it. just remember that when in rome, do as the romans do
