I worked for weeks on this map. It took several pages of graph paper and notebook paper. I had carefully crafted this thing for a heroic tier one-on-one game. *Sigh*, I suppose it was my fault for leaving it next to my chair instead of stashing it in the bookcase. Anyway, we went off to handle the day's errands. When we came back, there was Merlin, our tabby, sprawled out on the floor, looking quite pleased with himself. My maps and notes were shredded like a psychotic hamster swarm had just passed through. Nary a scrap was left unmolested. As if to add insult to injury, Merlin sat up and grabbed the remnant that showed the entrance to the temple complex. With fang and claw he ripped it neatly in two. I dropped to my knees in anguish, raised my hands skyward, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

And then the little fuzzball trotted over to rub up against me like "It was a cheesy premise anyway. Make a new one."

Yes, Merlin is still among the living. He was right. It was a cheesy premise.

So, anybody have the dog eat their dungeon, or their little sister eat their hero, or their kid eat their lucky d20?

aye. the feline eye is quite discerning.

thankfully my apartment's cat, DJ (she belongs to my roommate. i don't actually know what DJ stands for), generally only comes in my room to sleep on my bed or for snuggles. the only time she caused trouble was when she nearly knocked my colossal red dragon onto the floor, i managed to catch it safely though (she fell off my monitor, and knocked the dragon on the way down. it was 2 feet away from me so a quick stretch of the arm stopped the possible cat-astrophe).

unfortunately she enjoys batting down the figures off my roommate's computer/art desk and i've had to do a few patch up jobs on some of them. thankfully they were clean breaks or well hidden ones and they don't show except on close examination. yay crazy glue.

we did however get revenge on her a few days ago: we cleaned house and now she doesn't have any boxes to get refuge in and call base.

cause cat+box=safe. it's proven math.

Our cat Galactus likes to watch. We have a big ottoman we put the map on and such and he just props his paws up and peeks over. He's not much of a game destroyer though.

My brother and I bought a lot of D&D minis for a while and he had an amazing habit of pulling legendary super-powered wizards out of boosters.

Elminster and Mordenkainen were sitting on the table in his room. My sisters dog was over for a while, got into his room and ate them both. I imagine that dog got a lot of experience points for that.

Similarly Isis, our miniature pincher, ate the corner of the cover of my 4E PHB, I was irritated at first but it is really my fault for leaving it on a chair and it gives the book character.

My kitty likes to shread paper. That's why I do my game scripts on the computer, so if the print out gets shredded I can print a new one.

Merlin? Galactus? Well, I guess the General forum is the place to be when you want to meet people with awesome names for their pets.

I knew a 1-year-old girl who ate a full set of red dice.

In my old house that I was renting with some friends, their cats would leap from ceiling-high furniture onto the game-table to ambush our minis. One of those cats was safe from retribution, because he would sit on my shoulder. I'm not kidding... like pirates have parrots on their shoulders, I had a cat on mine.

There was one older RPG, I think it was "The Fantasy Trip", that had children listed in its version of the Monster Manual!

I love this thread, mostly because that these hilarious cat-astrophes I have seen first hand.

I had a cat who loved to would shred maps, he is deceased.. no I did not kill him.

I have a cat who can not stand books to be open. If she sees one open she waddles over and sprawls upon the pages. Looking at whoever is around like, "now you can pet me."

Another cat I had would chase dice, carry them off and drop them in the toilet if we could not catch him. Any dice that hit the floor was fair game.

When my daughter was still in diapers, we had to get extra big dice so she could pick them up and play with them; play with us such as it was, but not be allowed to accidentally swallow a die. While she was still a crawling tarrasque, she once spit up on my DMG one night. The price of raising a barbarian princess.

Anyway, this is a great thread. Thanks for sharing.

years ago, we had a budgie named "Pretty Bird", or "Pretty" for short.

that bird loved books. loved to perch on them while we read, loved to turn the pages if on the ground and loved to eat them.

i swear, any book we left out in the living room got it's corners nibbled away. the library got mad at us more then a few times.

What you have is a great plot hook.

"You're sitting in a tavern, when an old man approaches". Drop the scraps of paper on the table in front of the players. "This map was found next to my dead brother. This is all that's left of him after the displacer beast attack."

Before I started DMing, my DM lived in one of the college dorms that was doing some "animal testing" (LoL, no-not what you think, they were letting students keep pets in their dorms). We were lazy and just used whatever happend to be around for minis when our DM needed them for combat. He used dog treats for an orc ambush.

So I got sneaky and called the dog over, and let the dog do our dirty work for us. :D

My players played a joke on me once. I got up to go to the bathroom, and came back a few minutes later to find my cat, sitting in my chair, with my DMG set up like a DM screen, and my players calling out initiative rolls to him like he was the DM, and when I walked around staring in utter amusement, I found my cat with a mock paper one of my players made of a "cat" monster, with a picture of my kitty on it.

When I asked what was going on, one of the girls "Our new DM is attacking us with this uber cute kitty, and it looks like him!"
As if it was some how on cue or rigged, my cat turned and looked up at me with this "STFU, you're interfering with MY GAME!" look as he meowed.

My cat has also been known to TPK the group...
He also likes to climb up to the table, and lay in front of me and watch the combat.

One time he got mad cause one of the players wouldn't pet him and laid on top of the poor guy's dice, and just stared half asleep at the guy.

I don't have pets, instead I have toddlers.

Their hobby is depaging books. Yes, they love to tear pages out of books. Almost every D&D book I have has a torn page, only because I caught them before they could remove the page.

They also love to use my minis to play with. Its real fun walking around the house and stepping on something small and pointy, and have it not be a d4. Thank god we use the plastic kind.

I am not going to mention their fascination with dice.

They also love to color in my notebooks that i have all over the house that i use to jot down notes in. Apparently my notes are just that much better with a crayon scribble or two.

Shiver me timbers, me hearties, the stories you told had this olde pirate 'ere rolling on the decks.

Mrs Shiftkitty, I tip me hat to thee for startin' this thread.

Mr Leichenreiter, you're spot on in regards t' those hellish little furballs called cats.

While I can't share a cat-astrophe or a warstory about a nasty attack of siblings, I can tell ye a tale about how our little tyrant of a cat taught how to paint me miniatures more carefully. She used to sit on my lap when I was paintin', and liked to chew on the butt of the brush or sniff at the minis.* Usually, I tend to start to get sloppy and loose focus after two hours or so into a painting session, but the promise of claws and the comforting presence kept me focussed longer, so I painted much more carefully - all in all, a more rewarding outcome.
*The cat was kind of a junkie, she licked plastic bags with gusto and got when smelling kalmata olives. And she had a thing for Lego Star Wars, Episode1-3, and would have liked sleeping in the padded boxes I kept my WHFB armies in.

Cheers!

Captn M.

Our cat likes to climb up on the table and knock over pieces whenever we are playing any kind of boardgame. It was a little bit shocking when we actually managed to play through a game of Jenga, because there have been so many games of D&D, Risk, Monopoly and the like where, if we left the table unguarded for more than a couple of minutes, the pieces would be all over the place.

I gave our party an animal companion of sorts once. My sister had a kitten that she fed on her table. When they came to my house, naturally, Micky felt that the table was fair game. (No problem really as we only used it to game- she stays well back from the counter which is all I ask)

When she was first big enough to jump to the table from the floor, she came tearing through our game sending people and monsters everywhere.

So now they have made friends with the specter of an astral lion that, on the whimsy of dear Max, charges through the battlefield, doing small damage to the enemies of the group and rearranging the positions of all the combatants. This sometimes works in their favor, sometimes not.

When I used to have ferrets they used to take all my stuff and hide it under the wardrobe in my bedroom, aswell as anything they could could drag up there, leftover food, dead mice, bits of fluff.
As for cats, the moment we get out a board game, my cat Jack used to seem to think its some sort of sleeping mat and would always jump on and knock everything off. So many little figurines lost (although that was mainly during risk).

And my girlfriend's cat likes to try and sit on her chest while we're having sex... not destruction related but it always seems funny to me. :D

Cats and boardgames, eh? I really like Saintkeeleoon's group's solution to that...

I heard that one of the best WHFB players in my town has a cat that likes to sleep on his miniatures, and according to rumour on his spearmen. Our cat was more interested in the padding where I kept my minis in.

During one of my last WHFB games 2 years ago, my opponent's young dog tried to taste one of my Dwarven Pirates - he survived it without a scratch (Dwarven Thoughness FTW). The funny thing being that my army was facing an army which I supposed look more like proverbial doggy treats: An Undead army made up of entirely Skeletons, Tombkings for those who know...
