Plasma TV built into our table for map display and tactical play...

Hi everyone...

As you can see by these photos... We have improved our playground by inserting a 42" plasma TV right into our table. We have linked it to our DM laptop and he can then use it for map display.

Furthermore, we also inserted a thin glass on the plasma display (to prevent damage to the screen itself) to let us use it as a tactical map for our miniatures.

We are looking for some more ideas where we could either improve this or find more uses to the setup...

Mar 03, 2010 16:35:31 I would suggest you to add 2 Fan under your table near the plasma , To let the heat flow aways that will help your electronics inside the tv. Plasma usually is Stand up and Heat skink naturally flow warm hair up by the top. In your case the heat will stack under table .

Btw nice idea you got.

Man I look forward to 3D LCD TV's !

Nah old tvs are curved.

You need something around 3feet or bigger and flat to replace a battle grid or tiles.

cheaper would be a Projector aimed down from the ceiling. Also less work intensive

Can you do animated effects? Such as water flowing or a fire buring?

You could greatly improve the usefulness of this setup, by using MapTool and run two instances of it on the laptop. Put one instance on the 42" tv and log it in as a player. Use the other instance on the laptop itself for the DM's view, which would enable the use of Fog of War, status effects, and a whole boatload of features within maptool.
