I've recently moved to a smallish town where i know almost noone.  I do have one group of people that i play DnD with one day a week, but i'd like to play more.  Unfortunatly I cannot find any face to face type game groups in my area, so i figured i'd branch out to playing online.  I've done alot of searching, but just like trying to find a group in person its extremely hard to find a group online.  Any advice on how to find a good website or group to play DnD online.  What tools would be best to use.  (like maptools, openrpg ect.)

I don't think he means PbP. There are several webpages that deal with Online table top games. I usually find games at www.thetangledweb.net or www.openrpg.net. Also, you can find other people looking for games at www.RPtools.net (the guys that created MapTools).

This place should have a dedicated subforum for Online Table Top...
