Seriously. The word "evolution" is being terribly, terribly used in this game. It's metamorphosis, not evolution, and creatures that go through metamorphosis often look very different before and after.
Rule of cool. Metamorphosis used as a verb (Metamorphed?) isn't as awesome as "evolved"

Though you're right. The game doesn't make sense just because it's using "evolve" in a non-literal way because it's nifty? I mean, it doesn't make all that much sense, but that's not why.
'Sides, "evolution" was a word that already existed that Darwin applied to his theory. It's not the only use of the word.
The first definition on Dictionary.com is "any process of formation or growth; development."
OK, so PokeMon evolution still doesn't quite qualify since it's an instantaneous transformation and not a process, but it's closer.

Just 'cuz it looks kinda girly doesn't mean all members of the species are female. And Mr. Mimes should be male just because of the name? In the first game where there weren't any genders I though that Jynxes and Mr. Mimes might be the males and females of the same species, though. So maybe that's a good point.

actually if you read the fluff magnemite's final form isn't that off the wall. accordign tot the pokedex what happens is that the central node simply outgrows the other two.
