I am a Steelers fan... always have been... even when they suck.
I'm starting to get excited. I'm expecting the Falcons to have a good year and hopefully make the playoffs. I think Turner will have a better year and hopefully Matty Ice can stay healthy. And they made additions to their defense, so hopefully it'll at least be non-terrible. Although they have to play the before mention killer AFC North. But luckily they play Pittsburg week 1 or something, so no Ben.
My fantasy league also just started talks and getting ready, so I'm going to have to research and pay attention again. This will be our first year with keepers so that's exciting.
And Green Bay is a very likable team. A-Rod is pretty elite and their defense (even though it got torched by Arizona) was excellent. I don't really know if they addressed their O-line issues. And their division looks like it might be decent. But I do have a positive opinion of them.
My primary "other" team is the Chargers and I don't know what I think. V-Jax is holding out and suspended plus they have no RB (and possibly a bad line). But Phillip Rivers is kind of awesome so hopefully they'll do well. And yeah, their division is one of the worst in the NFL so there's always that.
But back in the day, I did like him.

Seriously though, if he did send the text message I don't understand it unless he was trying for extra money but then why would he send the message to teammates instead of management? Reporter asks teammate: Have you heard from Brett?
Teammate: Yeah, he says his ankle still hurts.
Reporter tells everyone: Brett's ankle still hurts therefore he won't play because he isn't healthy.
Favre has started to contact teammates and Vikings officials to say he will not return for a 20th NFL season, tight end Visanthe Shiancoe said on Tuesday evening."He told a couple guys on our team he's going to retire," Shiancoe said after practice. So it seems like it's all hearsay anyway. Likely some idiot's idea of a joke or, as you suggest, a misinterpretation. Unless the 'couple of guys' step forward and say what exactly it was they were texted, I doubt we'll ever know. In any event, I'd never put it past ol' Brett to do something that was exactly this.

The thing with Favre vs LBJ, is I think Favre was legitamately through with football when he announces retirement. Or thinks he is. He stops and thinks about how old he is. How long he's done it. And he thinks "I should hang it up"

I think he wants to retire but he's frankly not sure what else he could do to busy himself, and ironically keep himself in good shape with. That's my Favre theory anyway.

Yep, Favrinator is back for his 20th season. He'll turn 41 part way though it and, if he starts the first 15 games, he'll hit 300 consecutive (reg season). I think after hitting those two (really, three) notable numbers, he'll be done. Then again, if he plays like he did last year and they come up short again (or if they win it all ), he'll at least do some waffling. All that said, they play the Saints early in the season and there's a chance he'll get his ass whooped badly again - this time right out of the gate. So all could be for nothing.
Side note: The Browns beat the Packers in a preseason game! I guess that means we're gonna go at least 9-7! Preseason is soooooo lamesers.

Terrible. They're still rebuilding, though, so it's ok. I do think they'll be a little better, but they've got a lot of new pieces to try and mesh together. The best I think Browns fans can hope for is that they'll be ok enough to play spoiler late in the season. A .500 team at the very, very, impossible to imagine best, I think. So yeah, less than 8 wins.
I honestly haven't read very much about football - aside from college - at all this year. It's hard to get motivated for a terrible team. I also have wached zero games this year. Once the season starts, though, I'll be into it again. Too bad I won't get to see Ohio State play much (Saturdays in the fall are busy). They've got a shot at the whole deal this year. 'Course that's easy to say before they've even played a game. After the Miami game, though, it should be fairly obvious how the season should go. But yeah, I don't know a whole lot about the NFL this year. Aside from Favre and TO, I really haven't read any news.

Being happy about an injury to an opposing team's player is sick, but natural. I still remember sittign in a bar watching the '02 Nat Championship. When McGahee got his knee obliterated, we all cheered. Sad. I'm glad he's doing ok in the NFL now. Too bad he plays for the Ravens ... heh.

He and Childress don't get along (that was evident last year when Favre threw a couple of touchdowns in two seperate games that were supposed to be running plays). Someone said the real problem is that Favre has been playing in that system for so long that he knows it better than Childress and its a case of too many chefs in the kitchen.
On a side note, I have apologized to Cap for my part in the argument in the last thread but I never apologized to those who read it. So I'm doing it now...
I'm very sorry ya'll. It was mainly my fault and I accept responsibility for the loss of that thread. A new thread is definately okay in my book.
But after reading what people said about Peyton I ask the wife what she thought of him (since most people I know like him). She said she has a negative opinion based solely on his commercials with Justin Timberlake. So I guess it must be common to dislike him.
For Favre, I heard that he said he wouldn't have come back if those three players did come down and personally ask him to return. Does anyone actually believe that?
He was also pretty damn hurt at the end of that game. Hurt enough that you wouldn't forget that level of pain quickly. (let alone stop feeling it)
Peyton: I dunno he just seems kinda slow. Like an idiot savant. He can still throw though. I don't really have an opinion of him otherwise though.
And yeah, Peyton does sound quite slow but that's probably 'cuz he's from the South. And he does look kind of like he's retarded since his forehead is kind of massive. And I think I probably developed such a positive opinion of Peyton since the Colts and the Patriots were rivals.
I do think that he deliberately did not say one way or another this time around, to avoid the circus (and then that alleged "text message" popped up.. proving that the media will make controversy when there isn't any). That way when he did make his decision people would back off of it.
Practicing with a local highschool, I don't think that really counts as a "yeah I'm coming back". That would be like him flying to Cleveland or Detroit and practicing with them for a weekend. :-p
Though to be fair to Highschools everywhere they aren't going to be as bad as Cleveland is going to be this year, now that they have The Shake, with what is more or less a High School level team. (and The Shake imo isn't even HS QB material at this point)
