Oct 12, 2011 23:46:37 Escher said something in the WDYWTTA thread that reminded me of something. At school a gatorade costs $1.25. Movie theatres have similarily expensive prices. Let's make an internet petition that will do nothing!

THat's about the same here. A lage sa costs about $6.50.

Oct 13, 2011 9:39:11 Movies are expensive enough. I refuse to buy food from those tools whenever I make the rare trip to a movie joint. Screw 'em. I mean, the one theater I go to is across the street from a Super Wal Mart. How they can justify charging what they do for a soda when Wal Mart across the way is literally selling 2 liters for the same or less as you make your transaction is galling. Don't complain about food prices at movie theaters - just don't buy it.

Curious: how large is a large soda anyway? I think you can go up to .75l (about 25oz) in movie theaters but the .5l (17oz) bottles are far more common, I hardly ever see anyone go beyond that.

When I worked at a theater, the large was about a liter or so. They also had the extra large that is pretty much like a two liter bottle. Still, you can buy a two liter bottle at a store for less that $2. Also, they stuff abunch of ice in sodas at theaters.

Here is the thing though... theaters don't make their money from the movies they show. THey only make about 15 to 25 cents from each ticket sold when the movie first comes out. THe longer the movie is out, the more money they can make from it. The real money is in concessions. THat's where the theater makes its money. Also, they aren't charging you a bunch of money for the soda, they are charging you a bunch of money for the cup the soda goes into. Same goes for the pop-corn. THe candy is just a rip-off though.
