Prom Theme Ideas?

My class is trying to decide on a prom theme, and we're having a bit of trouble.  We don't want something cliche, but we want it to be fun as well.  A few of us were warming up to the idea of a masquerade ball until it was pointed out that every other teen movie had one, and I instantly lost all love for it, lol.  A couple of the ideas are actually kinda bad, like a Will Smith theme and a Pokemon theme (seriously?!).  I suggested a Hawaiian theme, but it hasn't gotten any response yet.

Do you guys have any ideas?  I know in the recent past we've done 007, Roaring 20's, and last year was VMA's.  We're trying to be unique here, and I'm hoping my Hawaiian theme idea might give ideas to other people.

BTW, I know it's going to get suggested, but I seriously doubt a D&D prom theme is going to get voted in.

Pokemon theme sounds good.

You'll never get the image of two teenagers going at it in the bathroom dressed as pikachus out of your head.

Eh, even if it's done to death in teen movies, a masquerade prom still sounds kinda neat/fun.

'course, I never went to my prom, so take that with a grain of salt.

Heh, neither did I.  So, yeah.

Though I'm always a fan of a masquerade theme. :-)

Fantasy or high fantasy. So this could be just stuff like a lot of faerie tales. This also includes a lot of nerdy things like D&D and LotR and stuff. People could dress up as things like elves and dwarves or whatnot. People could dress up as wizards, warriors, princessess or a court pomp. Some people could even dress up as strange fantasy races from different games and movies. you know, stuff beyond elves and dwarves. Ya know things like kobolds, orcs, and other cool stuff like that. Also the fantasy thing gives a huge range of things for people to be.

Post-nuclear apocolypse, ala Fallout.

How about... "If the Sharks Won."

If they had gotten enough spiral energy, it would be sharks piloting giant mecha-robots and yelling in Japanese (sharkanese?).

The best prom theme? Prom Sucks Hard and Nobody Should Go to This Stupid Dance.  Tongue out

Alrighty then, here's some real suggestions:

Murder/Suicide - one person dresses up as the person that killed the other.  This'll be after the fact, so you'll both already be dead.  Break out the Halloween make-up, kiddies.  This'n's gonna be graphic!

Porn Set - this one will involve '70s hair and 'staches for the guys.  Exposed hairy chests, bad bling, etc.  The music will, of course, reflect the theme.  I think it'll be easiest on some of the gals - they'll only have to dress slightly more skanky than usual.

Deadliest Catch - everybody wears rain/cold weather gear.  Make sure not to shower for a couple of weeks and try and stay up for at least 48 hrs before the dance in order to make the experience more authentic.

As obviously stupid as my 'suggestions' were, I do have to admit that I'd be intrigued by a murder/suicide theme.  Not that any school would ever allow it, of course, but I think it'd be kind of fun.  Hmm.  I think I smell a Halloween party theme ... Too bad I'll likely not be anywhere near a party on Oct 31.

Austin Powers! ;)

It all depends on when the prom is, because you can always go with something seasonal. Like at my school, we have a winter ball in January. Our proms aren't until June.

Shanghai Moon. Everyone can come in kimonos and the like and you can make a nice shrine with some lions and even a small pond. You could probably even hire a group of musicians that specialize in Oriental pieces.

Then you could turn your commons area into a lounge and have a hooka and free tail.

How about a Monty Python theme? Like Flying Circus, Spamalot, Holy Grail...I'd go with Holy Grail myself. You should really see that if you haven't already.

How about something different like Saturday Night Fever, or even better, Grease. They aren't uniques but are almost unique again because they have been around for so long. Of course, "kids" nowadays may not be able to appreciate something as cool as Grease.

Just a couple of thoughts.
