| #1grail_questOct 06, 2008 17:25:33 | Hi! I was wondering how everyone uses art or art gallery type website that shows off, say, fantasy art. I'm asking because I just started a website about a month ago, and am wondering if the type of art is in too small a niche to be worth continuing. 1. When you surf the net for fantasy art, what are you looking for? 2. What will you do with the art you find? 3. What can an art site do for you? 4. What do you often find you need (To add context when you respond, please indicate if you look for sites primarily as an art lover, roleplayer, writer, or other.) Thanks! GQ |

So, join sites like Elfwood, Deviant Art, Concept Art, etc. Roleplayer, Artist, Writer and Art Lover here: 1. When you surf the net for fantasy art, what are you looking for? Generally interesting character concepts and landscapes. 2. What will you do with the art you find? Either use them as inspiration or as references for various things. 3. What can an art site do for you? Beyond having the artwork I am looking for, I find any tools or resources can make a site handy. Thus why Concept Art is good, many people on the forums post lots of resources. Concept Art is also good for employment. 4. What do you often find you need? I find nice and clean character concept sketches are something I find hard to find. |

Often it is to size up the competition, cannibalize their work for an unrelated creative endeavor, lend moral support, objective critique. 2. What will you do with the art you find? Take it out, buy it dinner, get it drunk and take advantage of it in a discrete locale ;) Honestly, if it's good (in my esteem), I right click it (Save As...) on the spot pending copyrights, etc., and consider deletion later if I must. 3. What can an art site do for you? Further my own work, typically via inspiration, new technique, stock, etc. Often links to other good outlets and further art sites. They need to network better as they are not a thriving venue of business these days. 4. What do you often find you need Consolidated galleries seprerated by genre and media w/ reasonable download times. Excess delay often means good art never gets seen. Concise artist's history w/out the "getting to know you crap"; resume, work history, inspirations, not your favorite drink, pet's name, frivolity. Absolutely a link/e-mail/cell/etc. to the artist in question for commissions. (To add context when you respond, please indicate if you look for sites primarily as an art lover, roleplayer, writer, or other.) Namely as a contemporary given my field of study, then art lover I suppose. |
