Alright, back to real matches. This one will place the combatants a little farther apart. A daylit jungle or gulch, with variable terrain but few shadows. Think 'Blood Gulch-sized' area. Not too big, not to small. Ambush and stealth will depend mainly on gear, cover, and camo. Snake's 'classic' iteration is our brawler here, and John is our Master Chief.

No vehicles, no backup (save for Cortana / radio communication with Otacon).

We'll give Master Chief an assault rifle, and one other Halo-weapon of his choice. We'll give Snake his usual arsenal of guns, knives, grenades, and C-4.

And go!

Assuming MC's shield DOESN'T regenerate, Snake has a shot, and is a likely win. If MC regenerates, he win, every time.

Well, of course it does, but remember: Snake takes down enemies a LOT larger than MC, and holds his own against ridiculous, superninja supersoldiers. Snake is no stranger to 'omg take down this impossible cyborg beast' missions.

Yeah, but regeneration is ridiculous, especially if MC can find cover. I mean, Snake would have to bombard the chief with bullets or explosives constantly to stop him from regenerating, which takes out Snake's favored fighting technique, cat and mouse. And MC can like down Snake with just a few rounds from his rifle, pistol, or any other weapon. The others are stacked GREATLY against Snake, and I can't see him winning without divine intervention or an enormous amount of luck (or the Bandanna).

The odds are always stacked against Snake, and the fact that a few rounds from a gun could put Snake down is equally true when he's fighting Metal Gears or ninja-cyborgs or just armed soldiers.

It wouldn't take all that much C-4 to put the Chief away.

Snake sneaks up on Master Chief and slits his throat before MC even knows he's there.
I don't care about regeneration, or how good MCs weapons are. Snake kills him and then lights up a smoke.

See, this is closer to what I was thinking, minus the throat-slitting. Hello? Armor?

Anyway, Snake does this kind of stuff all the time. I think Chief would lose Snake and then end up with seven pieces of C-4 on his back before he realized he'd been 'stuck'.

A one on one fight isn't exactly Snake's real specialty. Snake is a master infiltrator and expert at sneaking around. It is also important to remember that Snake always starts a mission with nothing but the clothes on his back and the cigarettes he hid inside his stomach. He has only 50/50 odds of having a gun.

Now then, while Snake does quite well fighting weird freaks and giant robots one-on-one, Snake is not really a superhuman fighter. He can still be taken out by a well-equipped military team. Snake can only take out a such a team if he has one of two advantages: suprise, or an overwhleming advantage in firepower. It is also worth noting that Snake needs additional weapons like Sniper Rifles and Stinger Missiles to take on the insane opponents he fights later on in his missions. Even then, Solid Snake tends to lose if he challenges any opponent in a straight-up gun fight that suits his opponent's strengths.

Now then, Master Chief is a one-man-army carrying the most powerful weapons and armor around. Furthermore, he has no problems taking on groups of well-equipped aliens at once. He is certainly not an easy opponent.

Now then, lets assume that Solid Snake just parachutes in and charges right up to fight Master Chief. Master CHief wins, because Snake is only armed with a Tranquilizer pistol (and for some reason can't hide from bosses). On the other hand, if Snake starts by infiltrating a massive military complex being guarded by Master Chief, things turn out differently. By the time Snake reaches Master Chief, he will have already raided the armory and acquired state of the art weapons and armor and can fight Master Chief on a more even level.

Now then, even under those conditions, I would say that Snake would still require an element of surprise in order to win. That is within his capabilities, so it comes down to the conditions and terrain of the fight itself.

If Snake gets the drop on Master Chief at close range, he wins via C-4. Otherwise, Master Chief obliterates him.

However, considering Chief's motion sensor system (which is probably more advanced than Snake's stealth tech), its unlikely Snake would be able to manage a surprise attack of this kind. Thus, I vote for John-117.

No, remember that in games 2 and 3 the Spartan's radar doesn't pick up very slow-moving targets at all. If you're 'sneaking', you're invisible to radar.

Snake and MC find themselves alone, as Otacon and Cortana are too busy flirting with each other and ignoring their respective Com Signals. Meanwhile, Snake blends right in to the scenery, and then tries to flank MC the looong way around. Unfortunately for him, the Chief moves with utter silence (for a 700 kilo cyborg, anyway) straight to the Active Camo. After both of them then play a 2-hour game of Invisible Grab-ass that makes the battle with The End seem like a ride on the Boomerang roller-coaster ride at Six Flags, Snake finds a cubby and lights up a smoke. He's pretty much covered the entire area with rigged C-4, excluding the small area he happens to be in, and is fairly sure his cigarette smoke will draw his enemy out of hiding. As he takes another puff, however, he begins to feel that his eyesight must be going for some reason, as there's a small red glare in his right eye. Only after blinking once or twice does he realize that the glare is actually some kind of high-powered laser charging up, aimed directly at him. Too late to move, Snake pops his many C-4 charges immediately, including the ones hidden directly next to the Chief's left thigh.

Both the Chief and Snake go up in a flash at approximately the same time.

Result: Draw.

Depends partially on information. If Snake knows about Master Chief's abilities (namely: super strength, active shielding, heightened senses, more powerful bone structure. A few other things, especially if we're going by the Halo novels), then he's got a fair chance. If not...

Snake sneaks up behind Master Chief, attempts to put him in a choke hold, and wonders why his fingers slide off the shield. Chief turns around and smacks him on the head with his SMG.

Snake, Respond! ... Snake? SNNNNNAAAAAKE!!!

I figure Otacon would have enough intel. He knows all kinds of obscure stuff about everybody from SSBB.

Whoooh...good one, hehe. However, Cortana would totally screw with his head. :D

The more I think about it, the less predictable the match seems. It really could go either way, depending on the tools each of them has. On one hand, MC has his rifle, which, with its six hundred-odd rounds can make mincemeat out of Snake. On the other hand, a few good Nikitas could bring MC down, assuming he doesn't shoot 'em down or sees them coming. This match is really too unpredictable to call it, it's like trying to compare a Command and Conquer Aurora Bomber to a Mammoth Tank. They've got absolutely nothing in common. I think we should split the match up and have the contenders face people who are closer to them in style and tools. For example, MC could fight the Crysis commando, and Snake could fight Cate Archer from the No One Lives Forever series.

This makes me think she might go haywire and pull a Rose on The Chief.

"Chief... I'm pregnant."

"What?"

Chief missteps and falls into one of those nasty pitfalls right before the part where you meet up with Baker and get to see Cyborg Ninja slice off some hands.

On a slightly more serious note though, Otacon would probably start to flirt a little with Cortana.
