| #1rakeFeb 11, 2009 12:00:02 | Third and final match for today. I like this one. Standing in for Captain James Hook and The Jolly Roger is (non-immortal, pre-ressurection) Captain Jack Sparrow, and his pirate ship The Black Pearl. Some important details/rules. One: The battleground is the high seas. Two: No crazy, obscure Tinkerbell-magic. Three: We're going to assume that Pan is packing enough Lost Boys to deal with Sparrow's mooks, and we're going to assume that Sparrow has just enough pirates on hand to man the ship and fire the cannons. The Boys and the pirates shouldn't factor too much into the battle beyond that. The Pearl is a better ship than The Jolly Roger is, (and Sparrow gets to use it here it because, really, the Pearl is Sparrow's weapon on the high seas, not his sword, his gun, or even his wits). Mind you, Sparrow is probably smarter than Hook, too (although that's hard to prove), and might prove craftier than Pan is used to expecting from a pirate. I'm excited about this one. : D And go! |
| #2doneisiFeb 11, 2009 12:03:13 | Peter Pan can fly. No contest. |
| #3ArmisaelFeb 11, 2009 12:06:22 | But Peter's an idiot. Let's face it, he fights like a kid, and Jack is clever enough to make use of that. If Peter fought cleverly, he'd win, hands down. But, since he fights like a cow, Jack takes the win home. |
| #4rakeFeb 11, 2009 12:18:29 | Peter can fly, but:But Peter's an idiot. There it is. Have you ever seen Peter keep his ranged advantage in a fight? I haven't. He flies down, hovers around for mobility and height advantage, and swordfights the bad guys. For a kid, he's clever. But a tactician he ain't, and a schemer he double ain't. |
| #5rakeFeb 11, 2009 12:42:44 | ATTENTION: Disney. I would pay good money for this show, in live-action or cartoon format. That is all. |
| #6Dark_StrykeFeb 11, 2009 12:48:02 | Let's see, Peter flies around and tries to taunt Sparrow for a bit, Sparrow laughs it off. Pan frowns, because normally this enrages his pirate enemies. Pan flies down and begins an epic sword fight with Sparrow. Sparrow shoots Pan. Sparrow wins. |
| #7rakeFeb 11, 2009 12:49:42 | Let's see, Peter flies around and tries to taunt Sparrow for a bit, Sparrow laughs it off. Pan frowns, because normally this enrages his pirate enemies. Pan flies down and begins an epic sword fight with Sparrow. Sparrow shoots Pan. Sparrow wins. :D And it would be awesome. Seriously, though, Pan gets shot at a lot. What makes Sparrow hit? He's no uber-marksman. Hook's pistol sees more use. Mm, he'd probably just shoot him in the back after distracting him with something, wouldn't he? |
| #8Dark_StrykeFeb 11, 2009 12:52:37 | Well, I'm figuring Sparrow goes with swords just long enough to trick Pan into thinking it's going to be a straight up sword fight, then just shoots him in the chest, point blank. While it may not kill him, it'll certainly put him down for the count, and Jack is smart enough to just finish him off at that point. |
| #9space_dragonFeb 11, 2009 14:04:22 | On the high seas, Sparrow. In the jungle, Pan. Hard to seperate these two from their respective terrain advantages. If they fought on neutral ground (like on a beach, maybe), I think Jack would win by tricking Pan and then shooting him, as suggested by others. |
| #10rakeFeb 11, 2009 14:05:30 | On the high seas, Sparrow. In the jungle, Pan. Hard to seperate these two from their respective terrain advantages. Not true. Pan regularly thwomps Hook on the Jolly Roger. Assume the battle takes place near the shore if you like, though. |
| #11Kobold_AvengerFeb 11, 2009 14:12:49 | Sparrow all the way. |
| #12m-barkFeb 11, 2009 14:40:00 | Let's see, Peter flies around and tries to taunt Sparrow for a bit, Sparrow laughs it off. Pan frowns, because normally this enrages his pirate enemies. Pan flies down and begins an epic sword fight with Sparrow. Sparrow shoots Pan. Sparrow wins. This. On the high seas, Sparrow. In the jungle, Pan. Hard to seperate these two from their respective terrain advantages. Depends. Are any loose water wheels involved? |
| #13baneofelvesFeb 11, 2009 19:44:09 | This is no contest. Jack Sparrow. |
| #14pigknightFeb 11, 2009 21:25:56 | Jack. Peter would fly right next to him, and Jack is more deadly than Hook is. |
| #15rakeFeb 11, 2009 22:55:40 | Jack. Peter would fly right next to him, and Jack is more deadly than Hook is. I don't know about more deadly. Not on a combat level. Hook is kind of brawny, and very ruthless. Much more... evil. He's probably a marginally better swordsman (Jack mostly runs away, gets lucky, or gets tricksy), and physically larger than Sparrow. |

| #17m-barkFeb 12, 2009 5:23:52 | I don't know about more deadly. Not on a combat level. Hook is kind of brawny, and very ruthless. Much more... evil. He's probably a marginally better swordsman (Jack mostly runs away, gets lucky, or gets tricksy), and physically larger than Sparrow. Thing is, the way he is portrayed, just about any 12-year-old who has done some kind of martial arts since the age of 5 or 6 and the ability to fly (kung fu movie style, especially) could beat him. Not to mention Jack can talk his way out of things more easily than Hook can, and is more cunning, though not necessarily more charismatic (Hook didn't really have as much trouble with his crew as Jack, but I assume this fight presupposes no aid from outside sources). |
| #18nezumi45Feb 12, 2009 5:36:04 | they wouldnt fight, sparrow would parley and use his guile to convince peter to assist him in some speculative good deed and peter would eventually find out what sparrow was up to but by that point jack would sodded off with loot rum, and the upper hand |
| #19ixien_kotharFeb 12, 2009 7:22:14 | I just can't see this as being an actual fight. There'd be a little sword play, don't get me wrong, but it wouldn't exactly be a fight to the death. Either Sparrow would trick Pan into leaving him alone, or Pan would figure out that Sparrow isn't exactly an 'evil' pirate, more like a chaotic neutral pirate, and would realize he has no reason to fight him. |
| #20pigknightFeb 12, 2009 7:58:08 | They're both Chaotic Neutral wth good tendencies. |
| #21m-barkFeb 12, 2009 8:26:01 | I just can't see this as being an actual fight. There'd be a little sword play, don't get me wrong, but it wouldn't exactly be a fight to the death. Pan's reasons for fighting mostly revolve around it being fun to him. Unless kidnapping is involved. (Which occurs at least once in every Peter Pan movie I've ever seen.) |
| #22rakeFeb 12, 2009 8:26:33 | they wouldnt fight, sparrow would parley and use his guile to convince peter to assist him in some speculative good deed and peter would eventually find out what sparrow was up to but by that point jack would sodded off with loot rum, and the upper hand This sounds about right. They're both Chaotic Neutral wth good tendencies. Yep. One of a few reasons why this is my favorite match-up so far. RE: Hook v. Sparrow. 'Beaten by 12-year-olds' is only technically true. Pan has been (an approximiate) twelve-year-old for a long time, and nothing precludes a young person from having good form. Pan is a good swordfighter. Not the best, but neither is Sparrow. Plus, the ability to fly really f*cks with the odds in melee. Hook isn't somehow inherently worse than Sparrow just because he loses to Pan. He loses to Pan because he's easily goaded, not as clever as Peter, and honestly, because of that damn crocodile. In a straight swordfight, Hook beats Sparrow. |
| #23m-barkFeb 12, 2009 8:30:56 | In a straight swordfight, Hook beats Sparrow. But thus would assume it would come down to a swordfight. ![]() |
| #24rakeFeb 12, 2009 8:37:14 | But thus would assume it would come down to a swordfight. I assume nothing, I'm just saying, Hook's a little better (and a little more serious) as a swordsman. If the two came to conflict, Hook would never make it aboard the Pearl. The Black Pearl is just a better ship. |
| #25m-barkFeb 12, 2009 8:42:43 | I assume nothing, I'm just saying, Hook's a little better (and a little more serious) as a swordsman. This is true. Also, I believe they are about as good a shot as the other (though I haven't ever seen Hook use a pistol much, Jack isn't too good but not too bad either). Also, I believe the overall crew of the Pearl are better at doing their job, and they also have the advantage of having been in many different situations and in some mighty storms. |
| #26rakeFeb 12, 2009 9:02:52 | Question: Does Tinkerbell have any real magic to speak of, other than helping people fly? |
| #27ixien_kotharFeb 12, 2009 10:01:39 | Question: Does Tinkerbell have any real magic to speak of, other than helping people fly? Ummm *thinks back to the old Disney cartoon and the live action movie with Robin Williams* I don't think so. She seems kinda useless in the magic department when it comes to anything other than: A) Making people fly, or B) Coming back from the dead via clapping. |
| #28toastedamphibianFeb 12, 2009 10:29:34 | Two: No crazy, obscure Tinkerbell-magic. No fair! Without fairy magic, Peter Pan is Michale Jackson with less artistic ability. A Derranged old man with an unhealthy obsession for young boys. |
| #29rakeFeb 12, 2009 10:32:42 | I think it's Neverland itself that keeps Peter young, but I could be wrong. Pan and the Lost Boys can fly under their power, though (happy thoughts!). No fairy magic necessary. |
| #30ixien_kotharFeb 12, 2009 14:21:50 | I think it's Neverland itself that keeps Peter young, but I could be wrong. Pan and the Lost Boys can fly under their power, though (happy thoughts!). No fairy magic necessary. Not true!!! Pan is the only one who can fly without fairy magic. Everyone else needs fairy dust and happy thoughts. You know, the way I just wrote that (fairy dust and happy thoughts) really makes it sound like they're all on drugs.... |
| #31rakeFeb 12, 2009 14:33:51 | I could see "Tinkerbell" or even "Jolly Rogers" being street-names for illegal substances. |
| #32pigknightFeb 12, 2009 22:16:21 | I thought they were? ![]() |
| #33rakeFeb 13, 2009 8:26:40 | Hell if I know. |
| #34ixien_kotharFeb 13, 2009 9:47:52 | I could see "Tinkerbell" or even "Jolly Rogers" being street-names for illegal substances. "Jolly Roger" is a street name for something illegal, but not a substance, more an "act". |
| #35rakeFeb 13, 2009 10:21:36 | "Jolly Roger" is a street name for something illegal, but not a substance, more an "act". Hm. Urban dictionary describes several horrifying definitions. I sort've wish you hadn't said anything, now. ![]() |
| #36Prof._PacaliFeb 13, 2009 11:06:27 | Here's how I see this going down: Peter Pan flies to the Black Pearl, and does something he thinks will tick off Captain Jack. Jack, who takes nothing seriously other than drinking rum, whoring, and um, drinking more rum, laughs. He then invites Peter to a drinking contest, which he wins hands down. Jack and the Crew of the Pearl clap the unconcious Peter in irons, and sell him in Barbados for ten shillings, which Jack spends on more rum. |
| #37ixien_kotharFeb 13, 2009 11:34:34 | Hm. Urban dictionary describes several horrifying definitions. I sort've wish you hadn't said anything, now. I'm here to educate, especially when you don't want to know what I'm teaching :D |
