Do you speak the truth?

...This is definitely a low.

We need to find extra-terrestrial life very soon so they can kidnap all of our children and brainwash them before we can get to them.

*shrugs*

I think the Outsiders is a dumb show, but I kind of like Destroy/Build/Destroy.

I'd rather watch that than some of the cartoons they've been putting on lately (6Teen, Total Drama Island/Action).

Eh, the new batman series isn't bad. But then, I'm not a fanboy of bats so I wouldn't be screaming blasphemy over the 70's style of the show.

CN had some great cartoons:

Samurai Jack was one of my favorites, as was the PowerPuff Girls. Dexter's Lab was good.

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends was good too, and just ended a few months ago.

In general, I dislike their newer shows. I kind of like Chowder, and Johnny Test is fun. But some of those shows are just ... horrible.

However, the new Batman: Brave and the Bold is actually really good.

Even Adult Swim is stupid now. King of the Hill? Srsly?

Chowder, Flapjack, and SpongeBob are the worst. They have no redeeming qualities to them what-so-ever. You can add Ed, Ed, and Eddy to that list too. They are worse than mindless entertainment because they barely reach the latter part of that title. There is nothing in them that teaches life lessons or communicates any kind of morality or good judgment at all. At least the old Tom & Jerry and Looney Toons you'd get the sense of 'don't do that cause it'll hurt' and a general concept of Karma from them. These shows don't even give that - the characters do the stupidest of things without any kind of negative repercussion, they just go stupidly and merrily along their way, sometimes even to their own benefit. It just teaches kids to be idiots and everything will be ok.

My whole family like Foster's, Total Drama __, and 6Teen, though the latter can get pretty repetitive sometimes. My wife was genuinely upset that Fosters left the air - which I found a little excessive, but whatever. TDI/A is just hilarious spoofnicity on reality shows, specifically Survivor. Ever really listen to the intro song on that one? Full of Awesome.

League of Super Evil is pretty darn funny, but is overwhelmingly ridiculous... small doses are good fun though. The new Batman is ok. It combines the 70's corniness but still tries to keep the vigilante feel too. It's too dorky for me, but my kids like it and it tries to teach some sense of right/wrong, so I'm good with it. Johnny Test is also lots of fun and is a great standby. Ben10 (both versions) is pretty solid as well - they don't play enough of this IMO. Secret Saturdays aren't so bad either; I wish the animation would be better but the story's not too shabby. Would also like to see more Avatar, but what're ya gonna do?

KND was great for the kinds of things that Johnny Test, Batman, Ben10, Secret Saturdays, and Avatar do - teaching to be individualistic and stand up to authority for the purpose of principal and duty and honor, but also did it in such a way as to be conceptually attractive to younger kids while steel teaching a healthy respect of authority within a chain of command. It was fun and creative in ways that all the other shows of this type lack (except maybe Johnny Test, but that one to a much lesser degree).

Samurai Jack, Powerpuff Girls, and Dexter's Lab haven't been on in ages, but the kids like to pick up the latter 2 on the local On Demand channel.

Yu-gi-oh and Bakugan are just more Pokemon rip-offs for a new generation of kids, the Pokemon gen being mostly mid-late teens by now. They are sad and pale. Courage is a crazy show that's decent, but definitely not for kids below 10yo.

This Othersiders is just plain silly. Every time that commercial came on with that one blonde girl saying, "This is a legitimate investigation," just made me break out laughing. I don't think the show will last too long. Teens and pre-teens will also find these kids laughable and recognize that if they are really into that kind of show, there's always Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi, erm *SyFybarf.*

For an example of a creative "cartoon reality show" that parodies so many of the tropes on the live-action reality shows, I point you in the direction of Total Drama Island and its sequel, Total Drama Action.

It has a fair amount of Canadian flavor (being a Canadian-produced show), but it nails the parody.

I'm pretty sure it has aired on Cartoon Network in the states as well.

Back when I was a teen I would watch CN at all times of the day. I literally watched just about every show on their. When they started playing crap I start losing interest in CN and with the shows that were scheduled around the crap. I now only watch CN on Saturday nights for the anime and sometimes on Sunday for the Venture Brothers. Other than that I avoid CN like the plague because most of the stuff they show on their is horrible as hell and is a waste of everyone's time.

I like some of the stuff. Fam Guy reruns are ok ('specially cuz I typically miss any new ones when they air). I also like ATHF, Squidbilies, Venture Bros, Robot Chicken (it's mostly "meh", though) and Metalocolypse. I wish they'd show more stuff like Sealab, Harvey Birdman, Boondocks, Stroker & Hoop and Friskey Dingo. I can't stand KotH and Amer Dad. Such a waste of air time. And I'm not a fan of anime, either. What this all means is that I rarely watch anything on AS anymore. And I don't watch any CN crap.

I like shows like ATHF, VB, Birdman, Sealab and Metalocolypse but the network has gotten so bad that I don't even watch them then. I hardly even watch it for FG anymore. It use to be one of the main reasons for watching but now if you want to watch it then you have to chance seeing a few seconds of KotH and I don't want that. I might as well watch my FG DvD's. It's much safer. If I want to watch the other shows I can go to the CN site and watch them. I can watch the good stuff and avoid the bad.

I just remembered Billy and Mandy. One of the best shows that CN has ever shown. Great stuff.

Yeah, I rarely watch stuff on AS anymore. I used to all the time. But they keep coming up with these insanely terrible live actions shows and reviving these terrible cartoon franchises and I am not all that interested anymore. I end up watchin' more sciency/reality (not the scripted crap, I mean stuff like Axe Men, Deadliest Catch, TUF, American Chopper and things like Wheeler Dealer, Wreck Rescue, etc. Oh, and Treasure Quest when it's on.) shows. The good news is that It's Always Sunny and Eureka will be back soon. Good stuff.

I watched like one episode of the original Yugioh (not this lame-o 5d or whatever spin-off), and I could absolutely not make any sense out of it. Pretty much all I could get was this:

Somehow these 2 identical twin guys sharing one body with genuinely ridiculous hair were playing cards against a monocle-wearing mind reader who somehow can't anticipate any of his opponents' moves.

Naturally, I never watched it again (one of the better decisions in my life;) )

Thus, there are a few main problems with the series:

1. Without knowing the rules of the accompanying children's card game, it's impossible to follow anything.

2. Big, muscular people should not be playing children's card games. Unless they're fathers trying to spend time with their kids.

3. Nothing is safe. Since the video games in my house have to stay in the same room that my younger brother (who does watch this 5D (expletive)) watches TV in, I know that everything gets mercilessly ripped off of. Example: My eyes strayed from my DS for one moment long enough to see a fairly obvious cell phone Transformer.

4. Motorcycles+children's card games do NOT mix, especially because, in another one of those stray-eye moments, I saw this: Guys are on motorcycles, carding. Guy loses. His vehicle starts crashing.

I like to think that 5D means "despair, doom, death, destruction, don't under any circumstances watch this."

Yu-Gi-Oh! was much better when it was all about Yami torturing and mindscrewing people with all sorts of games.

The writers pretty much make up the rules as they go along. And screw the rules, Kaiba has money.

1stly, they need to get their asses in gear smartly. The namesake of the channel spells it out in no uncertain terms. Caught all of 20 seconds of "The Othersiders" (wtf kinda' name is that?), and man, it's bad...

Of course, History Channel, which I love, used to show programs, you know, about history, not this contemporary "Look at the bells and whistles" stuff. "Modern Marvels" can be okay sometimes, but the only history in it is during invention or product X's inception and how it came to be. The rest of the show is how they do things now (the present), what it does, etc.

Even VH1 is more about crap dating shows and reality TV that doesn't have anything to do with "video" or "hits". Usually just incredibly cliche and obviously scripted BS angst. Malignant narcissism, constant social posturing, and making things "edgy". Laughable if it wasn't so sad that the easilly impressionable (read, "stupid") didn't buy into that as reality.

Why reality TV is so prolific: namely, $. They're cheap to film. Camera crew, some sound, and editing like normal, that's about it. PPl volunteer for free often enough. No pricey CGI or big budget stars. Most of them are just filmed on location (no expensive sets to build), etc.
Same thing w/ talk shows really.

I know what you mean. I never turn that channel on before 11, unless they're showing a good cartoon movie on the weekend (like the Iron Man cartoon movie, or Superman vs Doomsday).

I know, I know... Mostly gimmicky kid's crap all day. However, I was totally impressed w/ the "G.I.Joe: Resolute" midnight showing that crept in under the radar. A far cry from the show I loved as a kid but realized in my later years the cheese value and sacharine flavored BS. This TV film was outstanding, considerably violent (realistic), and made sense.

There might be a gem or 2 on during regular ppl hours, but I'm not gonna' dig for it. Usually, it's Adult Swim...the emphasis on adult. Cartoons aren't just kid's fare anymore. Is it any wonder why Fox's most successful (most watched?) programming is nearly (completely?) all animated Sunday night block?

...currently love The Mighty Boosh.

Never really saw it, but at least it's comedy-based, so, I guess that's a start. There's another brit one, uh, "Look Around You" IIRC, that got a few laughs, but still, don't know enough to make an accurate call there.

IDEA: they want more reality programming and the like. Why don't they have a "how-to" one about, get this, cartoons? Drawing, editing, CGI, etc. History thereof, getting your start in the field, and so on.
A lot of material to work w/. Compare/contrast guys like Tex Avery to Otomo or Miyazake, things like that. A special on censored cartoons (WWII era or Tom & Jerry suicides), social messages and commentary (was He-Man really gay?). Why there's really no Saturday morning cartoons anymore, bla bla bla.

Perhaps some of the messed up direction over at CN is that BS fallout from the movie promotion to ATHF; short of it is guys promoting it took brightly lit LED electronic boxes of the Mooninites and placed them around Boston in OBVIOUS areas (so they'd be seen and generate buzz). 2 weeks into it, a couple of dumbasses thought, "Ah, suspicious packages...better call Homeland Security!"

So, when making bombs, biological or nerve agent dispersal systems, remember, to make them brightly colored, flashy, and put them in areas where lots of ppl can see them for maximum effectivness.

I used to watch CN religiously: Powerpuff girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Rouroni Kenshin, Zoids, Gundam, Megas XLR!!, Teen Titans, Clone Wars, Yu Yu Hakusho, DBZ, Trigun, and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.
This is my personal list of crazy awesome shows and is subject to change.
