I'm in a rare mood right now for no particular reason, so just blurt out what little things in life make you happy. You know, the things you usually don't notice, but make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside (in a non-libido-satisfying way, if you please).

- The sound that toasted oats cereal makes when you pour it into a ceramic bowl.

This right here.
Doctor Manhattan: Thermodynamic miracles... events with odds against so astronomical they're effectively impossible, like oxygen spontaneously becoming gold. I long to observe such a thing. And yet, in each human coupling, a thousand million sperm vie for a single egg. Multiply those odds by countless generations, against the odds of your ancestors being alive; meeting; siring this precise son; that exact daughter... Until your mother loves a man she has every reason to hate, and of that union, of the thousand million children competing for fertilization, it was you, only you, that emerged. To distill so specific a form from that chaos of improbability, like turning air to gold... that is the crowning unlikelihood. The thermodynamic miracle.
Laurie Juspeczyk: But... if me, my birth, if that's a thermodynamic miracle... I mean, you could say that about anybody in the world!
Dr. Manhattan: Yes. Anybody in the world... But the world is so full of people, so crowded with these miracles that they become commonplace and we forget... I forget. We gaze continually at the world and it grows dull in our perceptions. Yet seen from the another's vantage point. As if new, it may still take our breath away. Come... dry your eyes. For you are life, rarer than a quark and unpredictable beyond the dreams of Heisenberg; the clay in which the forces that shape all things leave their fingerprints most clearly. Dry your eyes... and let's go home.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

I said this a bit ago in the parlor, but it seems apropriate here as well.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like eating baby squirrels!

Brace yourselves, ye of the feminine gender, there really are guys like this;) :

I remember the first day after my husband was well enough to stand for an extended period of time after his back surgery. I came home after a hard day's work, psyched out to wash the dishes, feed the dogs, cats and fish, clean the front room and make dinner. I walked in to see the kitchen light on and plates already on the table. What he said was unbelievable: "Since I'm home all day, I figure I'll help you out by making dinner while I'm off work."

Granted it was only one task out of many, but it was the biggest one on the list. So, just knowing that not only are there really guys like that out there but that I got one of them, yeahhhh, all warm and fuzzy inside...

I also cheer up when my cats both try to nuzzle my hand after I've plopped down into my chair when I come home from work. They always know how to make me feel better.

And the dog. No matter how hot it is, no matter how miserable he feels (he's really old), he always comes trotting across the yard to welcome me home like it's the moment he's been waiting for all day!

I don't know if you're mad because of the stereotyping or just irate that it would be so hetero-centric, but I agree. :P

Hmmm ... reasons to be cheerful ...

I like the post above from The Watchmen. It really is a miracle.

Another reason is nice warm beds on a rainy day with soft comfy sheets.

When I get to stay in the house all day and everyone else has to go to work and I don't have to be sick.

(I hate sick days, I'm never sick )

Oooh, ooh another one; when I wake up in the morning and my girlfriend has made me a cup of tea.

I would be struck with a horrible fear knowing the existence of bacon pudding, was I not already aware of "deep fried twinkies" and "hot dogs"

Got a couple more to add:
-new CDs
-freshly sharpened pencils
-sombreros
-finding an old video game I'd misplaced

-The "Watchmen" bit was very illuminating. Nj.
-Pooky's Grooming Ritual; shave, cut, tweeze body/head hair, all nails trimmed/cleaned, warm (never hot) shower w/ the hardcore japanease washcloth & whatever else she can torture me w/, 20-30 minutes of rolfing (deep tissue massage), in warm season low fan evaporates beaded water, perhaps peripheral extras, go to sleep in bed w/ clean, pressed sheets. What a luxury. Think it's the clean, treated, bare skin on the clean crisp sheets and air current. Loved that since I was a child.
-Filing/dremmeling off snags & rough edges on minis or sculpture pieces.
-Working on my Wild Empathy ;); feeding deer in back yard. They get closer each day (are getting friendlier or closing to sneak attack distance. Unsure.).
-Utter silence in a cinema (apart from the speakers that is).
-Watching an image manifest slowly on film paper in a bath of Dectol.
-Rabbit "binkies"; the sudden vertical vault for no apparent reason. Hilarious.
-Strange mix of cool water from the surf evaporating & warm sand underfoot.

I don't know.

What the hell is a geoduck?

Pronounced Gooey-duck, they are magical and majestic creatures. They bury themselves in the sand and extend their protuberance (which can be up to three feet long) up to filter microorganisms out of tide water. There's a bunch up here in the Puget Sound area.

Next wizard I make, Geoduck familiar.

Fallout 3 related moments of happiness (recently completed the game)

-Finding a teddy bear in a super mutant complex.
-Stealing everybody's room keys in Rivet City
-Finding a teddy bear factory after trudging through one of the countless horrible subway lines.
-The AntAgonizer and the Mechanist! (Best quest ever!)
-Standing atop a meter high pile of teddy bears, gazing at my collections of garden gnomes, billiards balls, and fancy hats.

So I ran with it and stated that it makes me sticky. Me + Butter = Sticky. See, you said anything with butter in response to a chain o' posts fully exhibiting the spirit of the thread title: Reasons to be Cheerful. Make more sense now? Man, that was a ton of work for such a terrible one liner. :P

This one inspired me to post my preferred version of the song (performed by the bob rivers band).

Like Guns N Roses with Axel Rose spittin'
Ozzie's black eyes and the bats that he's bitten
Big Marshall stacks and a broken E-string
These are a few of my favorite things

Penthouse apartments and twelve in a hot tub
Drinking Jack Daniels while getting a backrub
Little gold chains pinned to brass nipple rings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in black leather with tight little tushes
Tattoos on big bosoms of prickly rose bushes
Silver stretch limos that come when I ring
These are a few of my favorite things

We like bar fights
We like nose rings
We like eating snails
We always indulge in our favorite things
No wonder our skin's... so pale
