| #2zombie_babiesSep 20, 2010 9:40:30 | I live near-ish to Cleveland so I can't say anything about football. ![]() But damn, Vick was pretty good yesterday. It was just the Lions, but still. Best looked good, too. Odd game. It's a pretty odd season so far, IMO. Oh, and it looks like Favre may finally be done. Wonder how long before they try to pull him again. What'd he toss yesterday? Like 3 picks? Sheesh ... he could play for the Browns with a game like that. |
| #3scypioSep 20, 2010 9:54:15 | The Falcons rebounded after losing to the Steelers in OT by crushing the Cardinals (43-7 or something like that). So the reports of Matt Ryan's demise were greatly exaggerated, although Turner was out with some injury. I am also a fan of Vick. Not only do I strongly dislike Kolb (primarily because I like McNabb), but he looked horrible. But Andy Reid said he's the starter if he's back. Stupid Kolb. Speaking of McNabb, the Redskins look good although they lost in a horrible way yesterday. But it looks like it'll be an interesting season. Yay football! =) |
| #4Cpt_MichaSep 20, 2010 9:57:19 | My cats. Need work. *sigh* Another 8-8 year ahead of us me thinks. Tampa looks ALOT better than they did last year though and it was a conference game. I'm amazed Tampa came so far over the off season. and Favre, give him a few games he might get back into it. He did skip training after all. |
| #5KillerGMSep 20, 2010 11:00:29 | Go Eggles!! :D Though that score, IMO, was crazy. Let's try to work on that defense, huh guys? |
| #6zombie_babiesSep 20, 2010 12:09:40 | The Falcons rebounded after losing to the Steelers in OT by crushing the Cardinals (43-7 or something like that). So the reports of Matt Ryan's demise were greatly exaggerated, although Turner was out with some injury. IIRC, Turner hurt his groin. But yeah, I was in no way terrified for the Falcons after that first game. They should be ok. And I have no idea what the hell Reid is thinking with the whole Kolb thing. I mean, Vick was effective in both games and Kolb, well, he wasn't effective in the one he managed to play in. And the season does look like it'll be interesting. Well, unless you're a Browns fan. ;) |
| #7scypioSep 20, 2010 12:31:10 | I have to say I was worried, although I wasn't too worried since the Steelers (especially their defense) are good. It was just good to see them lay the smack down. And with Andy Reid, I just don't know. Its hard to argue with his creditials since the Eagles have been so good under his command. But it just seems like he just does things to spite people or prove that his way is right. And the whole never running the ball thing... Hey, didn't the Brown almost win their first two games? And their opponents are a combined 4-0, so that's something, right? |
| #8zombie_babiesSep 20, 2010 12:52:29 | Yeah, if you believe in moral victories, the Browns are on their way to the Moral Playoffs. Oh wait, there are no Moral Playoffs? Yeah, **** 'em. ![]() I don't know what to think of the Steelers, to be honest. It's like they're unkillable. After last year, I'd not have pegged 'em at 2-0 with Big Ben. And now they're down to 4th string at QB and they still did it. I just don't know what to think. The defense is playing out of its ****in' mind, but who knows if they can keep killing themselves like that all the way to the end of the year? And, it's possible they'll relax and, therefore, regress when Ben does come back. But yeah, wow. Then again, Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the league. Hands down, no question about it. I think you nailed it with Reid. He doesn't really seem like a stubborn hardass when you look at him, but he sure as hell acts like one. It's like he'll start Kolb just to stick his finger in the eye of every Philly fan that told him Vick was better from the start. He won't let you be right and he damn sure doesn't have to - even though you are. That kinda thing. Oh well, I hope Vick gets to start. He's brought some fun back to the game, IMO. Guys that play like that are always a good thing. |
| #9scypioSep 22, 2010 10:28:38 | Apparently, Vick is going to start this week. I heard a rumor that management gave the order to Andy Reid (although I'm not sure about that). Other QB notes: -Jimmy Claussen is going to start instead of Matt Moore. -Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to start instead of Trent Edwards. -There's no decision on who's starting in Oakland. |
| #10zombie_babiesSep 22, 2010 11:37:44 | I heard Vick was starting this morning. I saw an article, too, in which Reid pretty much says it was his decision. 'Course that's easy enough to say. Anyhoo, regardless of who made it, it certainly seems like the right one at the moment. |
| #11zombie_babiesSep 22, 2010 13:45:44 | Another take on Reid/Vick. |
| #12zeppelinfan813Sep 22, 2010 22:45:11 | Dolphin's fan here.Have to say very impressed wit hthe way they are playing so far.Hopefully they will keep it up against the Jets this Sunday. |
| #13Robin_HoodlumSep 26, 2010 10:58:31 | GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| #14scypioSep 27, 2010 9:25:36 | The Dirty Birds beat the f-ing Saints! Who dat now, douchebags? |
| #15IdolisSep 27, 2010 9:59:35 | The Vikings finally won a game. Granted it was against the Lions but I'll take it. |
| #16Cpt_MichaSep 27, 2010 10:12:41 | stupid bunch of rookies here at Carolina. |
| #17zombie_babiesSep 27, 2010 10:27:47 | Browns still suck, the Saints are still hungover, Ben Rothleswho?, Vick is back and Ohio State put up more points in one game than the Browns will all year. Maybe. A 73-20 beatdown. Man, they sure make those kids earn that $800k for their school ... |
| #18scypioOct 01, 2010 14:41:44 | My brother got tickets to the Giants game on Sunday night. So we going to go, only having to pay for parking. That's pretty sweet, especially since its a new stadium. So I'm pretty excited =) It also works out well since we'll be able to watch the Faclons crush his 49ers at 1. |
| #19cheeze21084Oct 01, 2010 23:40:42 | As an avid Ravens fan, I am very much looking forward to watching the best rivalry game in the NFL play out this Sunday. GO RAVENS !!!!!! RAVENS 13-10 as long as we can keep Troy P out of the endzone! |
| #20Robin_HoodlumOct 02, 2010 8:06:42 | As an avid Ravens fan, I am very much looking forward to watching the best rivalry game in the NFL play out this Sunday. BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! |
| #21Robin_HoodlumOct 02, 2010 8:07:34 | GO STEELERS!!!!!! |
| #22Robin_HoodlumOct 04, 2010 6:12:38 | STOOPID STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| #23KlirshonOct 04, 2010 6:28:12 | No wonder Cleveland won, Jake Delhomme wasn't playing. |
| #24scypioOct 04, 2010 8:34:55 | Atlanta get another win even thought Matt Ryan threw a should-have-been game ending interception. Luckily, Roddy White is the man. My brother and I went to the Giants game yesterday and the only word to describe it was ugly. There was basically no offense the first half (none at all for Chicago) and it was more due to bad play than good defense (although the Giants defense played really well). Although it was annoying because the people next to us kept complaining that the Giants were so boring. Not necessarily that they were ineffective, but that they were boring and ran too much. They complained after a rushing play which netted something decent like 5 yards. They even complained on short passes. Idiot fans like that deserve to be beaten. I was also happy that Donovan and the Redskins beat the Eagles. Although I was quite surprised that the fans gave him a standing ovation. |
| #25zombie_babiesOct 04, 2010 8:54:35 | The Browns ... won? In a division game? And the world, it's still a' spinnin'? Whodathunk. They are better than last year, though. I mean, I know they haven't been winning, but they do look better. Hillis is all sorts of good, too. At least we won one. Sucks Vick got hurt. Oh well. The Buckeyes looked like crap and still won. I don't know why they always do that - have no heart in games like that. I mean, it was the first Big 10 game of the year, you'd think they'd have been motivated. Nope. At least it only took 'em most of the game to decide to pull Saine and let Boom have a few carries. When they did, lo and behold, we had a running game that didn't center solely on number 2 all of a sudden. And Pryor banged up his leg again. Yay. Oh well, Indiana next week. They're somehow 3-1, though, and put up record offensive numbers against Michigan last week. I mean, that's not hard to do cuz Michigan doesn't have a D, but still - it's Indifreakinana. Meh. |
| #26cheeze21084Oct 04, 2010 15:22:52 |
Would you look at that. We neutralized the pass rush, kept the ball away from the hairball and pulled out the win. |
| #27october_darknessOct 04, 2010 17:04:21 | My Niners can't seem to win any games.![]() |
| #28Robin_HoodlumOct 04, 2010 17:56:37 |
Yeah... without Ben though. 3-1 without Ben is pretty dang good IMHO... |
| #29IdolisOct 04, 2010 18:14:52 | Vikings had a bye so I watched "The Blind Side". Good movie. Wife cried, I laughed, a good time was had by all. |
| #30scypioOct 05, 2010 8:04:21 | My Niners can't seem to win any games. The Niners are a much better team than their record would imply. But I'm glad they didn't show it against my Dirty Birds =) At least your division is bad enough that they still have a realistic chance of winning it. Vikings had a bye so I watched "The Blind Side". Good movie. Wife cried, I laughed, a good time was had by all. That was a good movie. Not sure if Bullock was best actress worthy, but definately a good movie. |
| #31zombie_babiesOct 06, 2010 11:50:00 | This just in: Randy moss has been traded to the Vikings - for a reported 3rd round draft pick. |
| #32scypioOct 06, 2010 12:03:41 | Yeah, I heard that this morning driving in (or at least that it was going to be done today). I was going to post about it but forgot or something... I'm not entirely sure why they would do that, but whatever, I hate them Pats. |
| #33zombie_babiesOct 07, 2010 11:51:57 | Maybe they were tired of his whining. All I know for sure is that it seems the Vikes got a good deal. Er, so long as they start winning again soon. Randy don't play for losers. Like, he actually doesn't bother trying. At all. |
| #34SomeoneOct 07, 2010 12:01:16 | Its all part of the Vikings' secret plan to assemble the most elderly- er, experienced team in history. "Some of you look like you'd have trouble pulling up your own diaper, let alone catching a long ball, in double coverage!" |
| #35zombie_babiesOct 07, 2010 12:23:16 | In sports, like life, some age more gracefully than others. Randy can still burn all but the very best pretty easily. And even with the very best (Revis, etc) he manages to isolate the opposition's best corner much as that same corner isolates him. That second point doesn't mean a whole lot to the Vikings, though, as they don't really have anyone else. Still, Favre can make all sorts of weird stuff happen with people most consider worthless so all in all, this is a win IMO. EDIT: It's a win if Randy decides to play. |
| #36IdolisOct 07, 2010 14:16:09 | Vikes got Moss? Really? Maybe the season isn't going to be so bad after all. Let me go check Vikings.com. Whooo hoooo!!! |
| #37zombie_babiesOct 07, 2010 14:57:05 | Yep. Official price was a third round pick. Total net was Moss and a 7th round pick. I ... I thought he was worth more. |
| #38IdolisOct 07, 2010 19:16:46 | Yeah, seems kind of cheap but I think all we're doing is looking for someone that is a deep threat until Rice can play. If Moss is plays anything like he used to its a deal and if Sydney Rice comes back and has another year like last (possible though the sophomore curse is in play) having to deep threats is nothing but good news. At the very least, the Vikings won't have to play like a one dimensional team. Peterson can put up a record season but if everyone just protects against the run, the chance at play offs is way way off. |
| #39zombie_babiesOct 08, 2010 8:14:43 | I really do think Moss will be a good addition as long as they can keep him motivated. The best way to do that? Win. In other news, Deadspin apparently has the Favre pics. They also have some MySpace messages and some pretty embarrassing voice mails. I haven't seen the pics and can't check right now, but I did hear a vm and it was ... sad. Like, he's got no game. Then again, I'm not totally sure it sounded like him 100% but who knows. Anyhoo, there's stuff about him having a friend pass his number to her and lame stuff like that. It's all pretty high school. Well, except for the **** pics - though I guess that does happen these days. But yeah, from what I hear there's a reason he wears number four. Cuz, you know, he's apparently pretty small. In the pants. Small in the pants. Heh. So far he's just done the 'no comment' thing but we'll see where this goes. |
| #40scypioOct 08, 2010 8:20:51 | The Falcons are playing the Browns this week. Let's hope the Browns don't have a winning streak in them. This Sunday doesn't seem too great for football, or maybe I'm more interested in baseball right now. But I'll definately be more into baseball this weekend. |
| #41zombie_babiesOct 08, 2010 8:29:33 | I really don't think the Browns can beat the Birds. Ya gotta remember that even though they won last week, they beat a team that's pretty overrated. Or was at least. |
| #42scypioOct 08, 2010 9:17:27 | I hope so. And apparently Peyton Hillis is nursing an injury or something. So hopefully at minimum, he'll be compromised. |
| #43zombie_babiesOct 08, 2010 9:23:21 | Heh. Yeah, he's a load. Thing is, the way he runs means his career will likely be incredibly short. But damn is he fun to watch. Nothin' like a back that tries to kill the people tackling him. It's great ol' school football at its best. But yeah, if he's dinged up - and that makes perfect sense considering his style - all the birds need to do is isolate Cribbs. Cuz, you know, he's really the only decent receiver. Everybody else is a good enough roster filler but that's about it. And Cribbs probably wouldn't start on a lot of teams either. The defense has looked pretty ok, though. Oh wait, the birds got Matty Ice and he can, you know, throw the ball. Just have him throw to whoever Eric Wright is 'covering' and it'll be 20 yards or a TD every throw. ![]() |
| #44Cpt_MichaOct 11, 2010 8:55:01 | Oh god... will this season just end already? I want John Fox's head. And I want whoever is in charge of signing players fired too. Guys you aren't going to find another Steve Smith. stop getting unknown nobodies. Oh, and Cleveland is going to Face Trounce Us. |
| #45jesse.two.coinsOct 11, 2010 9:05:09 | lol the jaguars are doing better this season :D (optimism) |
| #46scypioOct 11, 2010 9:09:36 | Cleveland was actually not so bad. They were competitive and actually had a lead... that is until Atlanta hurt Seneca Wallace. Then Jake Delhomme came in and it was over. But Cleveland was pretty decent on defense and the game was pretty close. |
| #47zombie_babiesOct 11, 2010 9:18:54 | Cleveland was actually not so bad. They were competitive and actually had a lead... that is until Atlanta hurt Seneca Wallace. Then Jake Delhomme came in and it was over. But Cleveland was pretty decent on defense and the game was pretty close. Yeah, they're surprisingly unterrible. Well, they're terrible but not as terrible as everyone thought they'd be. Kinda ok, I guess. I didn't get to watch but I did get to listen a li'l. Once Wallace went out I stopped payin' too much attention. ;) |
| #48scypioOct 11, 2010 9:26:08 | I was pretty confident, but a little worried... but then Wallace left and there was no worry left. That Jake Delhomme, he's not just bad, but he's really unlucky too. Obviously, he makes bad decisions, but there were some great individual plays (like the Pick-6 by the DE) that was made against him. But why wouldn't they just put in whatever 3rd stringer you have? He can't be worse and it'd be good to see what he can do, right? |
| #49zombie_babiesOct 11, 2010 9:50:53 | Cuz the third stringer is Colt McCoy - the future, apparently. He's still kinda fragile and totally not ready yet. We got Jake and Seneca to abuse until we trust Colt enough. That time is not now. Cleveland is notorious for ruining prospects at QB and I think they're making a conscious effort to change that. |
| #50scypioOct 11, 2010 10:02:03 | Yeah, that actually makes sense. There's no reason to throw him out there and possible hurt him long term. |
| #51Cpt_MichaOct 11, 2010 10:13:21 | Can someone take Fox off our hands? really? I'd take anyone over him. I think he's gone senile. |
| #52scypioOct 11, 2010 10:19:06 | I honestly don't know what Fox did. But I think the general impression is that Carolina will get rid of Fox (even though they consider him a good coach) just to have a change. And people generally believe Fox will get offers relatively quickly. Like I don't watch many Panthers games, but his teams kind of suck. They have no quarterback and only one wide reciever. They have a good running game, but apparently their defense is not very good. I think its kind of hard to blame Fox when there's not a lot of talent. They probably should can the GM (if Fox is also the GM, then I take back my defense of him), but typically that means a next coach anyway. But again, I don't know much about the Panthers. |
| #53Cpt_MichaOct 11, 2010 11:00:10 | I honestly don't know what Fox did. But I think the general impression is that Carolina will get rid of Fox (even though they consider him a good coach) just to have a change. And people generally believe Fox will get offers relatively quickly. Actually we have a pretty good D overall. But they spend the whole game on the field. It's hard to not look bad when you've spent the entire game on the field. we're the masters of the 3 and out. Fox and co pretty much said "we don't want anyone that's old" and fired the existing players pretty much. Anyone like 33 and up is gone (kasey aside) which were our best guys. I can understand wanting to bring in new talent but you do so gradually... and you make sure they are talented first. This was a Suicide move. It's going to be a good long while before the ship is righted over here. Fox enjoys the "He took us to the SB"luxury feeling even now. But it's wearing thin especially as he rotates his QBs out so often that they can't get a rhythm going. He wanted to make a Passing Team... problem is he isn't a Passing Coach. never was nor will be. He just doesn't understand the dynamics involved. |
| #54zombie_babiesOct 11, 2010 12:06:34 | Yeah, that actually makes sense. There's no reason to throw him out there and possible hurt him long term. Yep, 'specially when you're not even gonna make the playoffs. Take the season as an extended practice and things will be better, IMO. Actually we have a pretty good D overall. But they spend the whole game on the field. It's hard to not look bad when you've spent the entire game on the field. This is exactly why the Browns look better this year. The D isn't as awful (aside from the secondary) as it appeared. The fact that the offense can move the ball more than rarely allows them to get more rest and look better. As the offense fades down the stretch in games, so goes the D. It's happened several times this year. In the only win, they were able to run late. That kept the D off and rested until they were needed. It's a working formula. |
| #55Robin_HoodlumOct 11, 2010 16:54:59 | STOOPID RAVENS! Grrrr..... |
| #56scypioOct 12, 2010 8:38:44 | Yep, 'specially when you're not even gonna make the playoffs. Take the season as an extended practice and things will be better, IMO. I read somewhere that they were going to start Colt McCoy. I'm sure he'll be able to handle the Blitzburg Steelers fine... |
| #57zombie_babiesOct 12, 2010 8:46:26 | I read somewhere that they were going to start Colt McCoy. I'm sure he'll be able to handle the Blitzburg Steelers fine... Yeah, I actually just saw that myself. So much for my faith in the Holmgren/Mangini regime. I guess it's not set in stone and Mangini does like to play these stupid games with injuries an' stuff, but I also wouldn't put it past them. Both our other QBs are hurt (and Jake is Jake) so I don't really know what else they could do - unless Ratcliffe or whatever his name was is still around (I thought they cut him though). The only acceptible reason to start McCoy against the devastation machine that goes by the name Troy Polamalu is if they don't think Colt will ever develop into anything worthwhile - which is certainly possible. If so, we better continue to lose and draft a QB. Locker would fit. He's used to losing. |
| #58jesse.two.coinsOct 13, 2010 7:47:25 | Who's been noticing the gator's sucking? I'm very happy about it ![]() |
| #59scypioOct 13, 2010 8:21:42 | What's this "college football"? I hear its something that people in far off realms enjoy... like high school football or something. Last weekend, I actually chose to watch a UFL game over whatever college games were on. It wasn't so bad. The quarterback of one of the teams was definately an ex-NFL backup. I forget his name, but he definately was familiar seeming. But you know, its like actually watching an NFL game where they run real offenses and people can tackle. But since it was on Versus, the feed was just lost to a random black screen. So I only got to see one drive. |
| #60zombie_babiesOct 13, 2010 8:23:00 | Nobody notices the Gators anymore. And that's even better than the fact that they ain't very good right now. Thing is, they'll be back. And that sucks pretty hard, but it's the nature of NCAA football. Go Buckeyes! EDIT: It does appear that the Browns did get rid of that Ratcliff guy or however you spell his name (too lazy to look it up). Cuz, you know, they just resigned him. He's apparently gonna be Colt's backup - since he hasn't practiced with the team in so long. Looks like Colt will probably be fed to the Steelers. Good luck, ace. Keep that gimp shoulder tucked and your head on a swivel. ![]() |
| #61jesse.two.coinsOct 13, 2010 8:31:30 | Nobody notices the Gators anymore. And that's even better than the fact that they ain't very good right now. Thing is, they'll be back. And that sucks pretty hard, but it's the nature of NCAA football. Go Buckeyes! I notice that I hate them lol 80% of Gator's fans are complete bell-ends...bahaha I used it right |
| #62Robin_HoodlumOct 13, 2010 17:56:56 | Sorry Z_B... GO STEELERS!!!!!!!! |
| #63scypioOct 14, 2010 8:56:50 | I'm not a Steelers fan, but I have their defense and Mendenhall on my fantasy team. So I also have to root for an embarassing performance by the Browns. I'm actually drooling at the possible points of my defense going agianst the Browns plus a rookie QB. And once their up, they can just hand Mendenhall the ball... Sorry, Zombie_Babies =P |
| #64jesse.two.coinsOct 14, 2010 8:58:34 | fcking yellow towels hurt my eyes lol everytime they do a field to stadium view the towels make me have to look away |
| #65scypioOct 14, 2010 9:02:42 | I think its so much worse when Steeler fans bring their towels and wave them around bars. Its one thing to bring them to the stadium; lots of teams do that. But when you see one or two Steeler fans whip them out in a bar and start waving them around, I think it gets a little silly. (No offense Robin_Hoodlum) |
| #66jesse.two.coinsOct 14, 2010 9:05:08 | thats just silly...do people actually do that? |
| #67scypioOct 14, 2010 9:23:09 | Sadly, yes. But honestly, there are worse bar people (relating to watching sports). I hate people who need to constantly cheer (loudly) even if their team is crushing the opponent. Okay, if its a close game, that's one thing. But sometime you have teams winning by 20-30 points and the loser fans are still cheering (loudly) when they score or something. That's extremely annoying. Its probably one of the ones I complain about the most. |
| #68jesse.two.coinsOct 14, 2010 9:27:36 | you ever start a nice old fashioned bar fight over it? |
| #69scypioOct 14, 2010 9:31:11 | Negative. |
| #70jesse.two.coinsOct 14, 2010 11:36:28 | I see... |
| #71zombie_babiesOct 14, 2010 16:10:12 | No need to apologize, I ain't one to get in a snit over someone likin' a team - unless they're a bandwagonnin' douche. You know, like the people here that wear Lakers crap or Yankees crap or whatever. We get it, you only like a winner cuz you're overly invovled in spectator sports to the point that you can't handle a loss. Lame. ![]() But yeah, root against the Browns if you must. I doubt you'll actually need to, but yeah. Heh. |
| #72zombie_babiesOct 15, 2010 11:00:52 | Tee hee. |
| #73williamhm75Oct 15, 2010 13:43:36 | Tampa bay is 3-1 WOOT. I bet no one would have predicted them to be doing this well, and with the saints various injuries we have a chance to be 4-1 YAY. |
| #74ADHadhOct 15, 2010 15:56:08 | you ever start a nice old fashioned bar fight over it? Please, you're watching a rugby variant. Real hooligans are attracted exclusively to soccer. Stadiums are dangerous places, especially in lower leagues, at least here; I'm not sure how does it work in Britain, but I assume similarly. If you're not as big as an Ork Nob, wearing team colours is a death wish. That said, I've recently repainted my DoW Orkz after a third league team from my hometown and gave them according banners. AVIA PANY!!! :D |
| #75Robin_HoodlumOct 17, 2010 8:11:40 | GO STEELERS!!!! The Browns are going to get crushed! CRUSHED!!! And the Browns should be ashamed of themselves, throwing that rookie QB to the wolves... Do you know why Toldeo doesn't have a professional football team? Because then Cleveland would want one! Ahhhh... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! |
| #76october_darknessOct 17, 2010 10:00:27 | My Niners are 0-5. ![]() |

| #82scypioOct 18, 2010 9:49:50 | My Niners are 0-5. Didn't the Niners win? Go Eagles! F' the Eagles and stupid Kolb.
I agree. McCoy did a good job considering the circumstances. |
| #83zombie_babiesOct 18, 2010 9:56:51 |
He did, didn't he. Really, I was pleasantly surprised. He's easily the most accurate passer the Browns have had in a friggin 'decade. He's got nobody to throw to, though, and Harrison took out both of the ok guys he did have early - with two intentional helmet to helmet shots no less. The second one should have gotten him a penalty. He lead with his helmet and the receiver was defenseless. Lame ass refs. Big Ben looked like Big Ben, too. If he can keep his **** in his pants, the Steelers will be tough to beat. Oh, the Browns need receivers badly. Like, really bad. Nobody is ever open. Both pics McCoy threw? Yeah, tipped by the receiver first. They made him look worse than he is, that's for sure. And that Browns secondary? **** covering receivers, these guys couldn't cover me. The Browns should safety/corner blitz every single down. That way, their safeties and corners may actually do something and it's not like it's a coverage loss. They don't cover anyway. Oh well, the record certainly doesn't show it but I do see improvement. EDIT: I think it's an Ohio thing, actually. You know, to cover soft on 3rd and long. Give the guy a good 7 to 15 yard cushion so he can get that first down easy. Both the Browns and the Buckeyes were guilty of that last week. Stupid soft coverage on long yardage downs. Get aggressive when your secondary kinda sucks, dammit! |
| #84scypioOct 18, 2010 10:18:42 | Speaking of big hits and bad reffing, did anyone else see that Desaun Jackson hit? It was a brutal hit, but seriously, the refs need to keep the flag in their pockets. Robinson did not lead with his helmet (or forearm) and didn't leave his feet. He hit him square with his shoulder pads. Stupid refs. It probably had no effect on the game, but it was a clean hit by NFL standards. What else is he supposed to do? Let him make big plays? |
| #85zombie_babiesOct 18, 2010 10:22:54 | Yeah, the way they use that penalty is too oddball. I mean, Massoquai was looking in the other friggin' direction to make the catch when a guy that outweighs him by probably pretty close to 100 lbs intentionally went helmet to helmet. No call. As a matter of fact, the Browns were penalized for DoG cuz one of 'em kicked the ball after the play. Yeah, they lose a guy to a concussion - the second guy Harrison took out, too - and they have to eat a penalty on top of it. It's not like it changed the game or anything but still. If you make a rule for safety, enforce that rule. 'Specially now that anything that remotely resembles a concussion means the guy is out of the game. Hell, an intentional helmet to helmet should be an ejection. |
| #86jesse.two.coinsOct 18, 2010 12:05:23 | you're about to have your 16,000th post |
| #87zombie_babiesOct 18, 2010 12:08:48 | I just did. And it was a post about bathhouse arrests, the cops that were technically in the right to make the arrests and the fact that those arrests never should have happened. Oh, and with definitions of public lewdness and indecent exposure. So, you know, post 16k could very well vanish into the nothingness where about 1k of my posts have gone. ![]() In sports news - cuz this is a football thread - I'm sorta glad the Buckeyes lost. I mean, now I don't have to get all antsy about a Nat Champ possibility. 'Course they could miss the Rose Bowl, too. See, Michigan State beat Wisconsin and Wisconsin beat us and we don't play Michigan State so stuff could get all sortsa weird. But if Iowa beats Michigan State and we beat Iowa and Wisconsin loses somewhere along the line, I think we're in. I dunno. Whatever. |
| #88jesse.two.coinsOct 18, 2010 12:11:24 | minnesota lost and and and FSUUUUU WONNNNNN!!!!1111!!!!11!!! |
| #89zombie_babiesOct 18, 2010 12:13:41 | The Golden Gophers - while my absolute favorite team name and mascot - are terrible. Losing is what they do. |
| #90jesse.two.coinsOct 18, 2010 12:17:32 | golden gophers huh? sounds like somebody i'd bet on lol |
| #91october_darknessOct 18, 2010 12:31:41 | Didn't the Niners win? Yes, against the Raiders. Not much of an accomplishment there, lol. |
| #92zombie_babiesOct 19, 2010 9:40:21 | So what's the deal with QB injuries this year? I mean, I thought that all the rules protectin' 'em sissified the game too much. How many have we lost? I can think of Delhomme, Wallace, Kolb, Vick, Stafford, Dixon, Young and Garrard without even trying. Man, not a good year to be a starting QB. |
| #93zombie_babiesOct 19, 2010 15:14:18 | New rule for helmet to helmet hits. Looks like Harrison may be in trouble. |
| #94scypioOct 19, 2010 15:29:00 | I have no confidence that the NFL will implement this rule properly. |
| #95zombie_babiesOct 19, 2010 15:33:35 | Yeah, I don't know how well it'll be implemented but it's gotten to the point that something needs to be done. Look at Harrison. He took two shots at two players, took 'em out and then said he tries to hurt people. Oh, and he wasn't flagged once. Yeah, something needs to be done. That's not the way to play. |
| #96scypioOct 19, 2010 15:38:49 | I was going to say let hits and personal fouls be reviewable, but as we see, review doesn't help. God, I hate the NFL refs. They should just make it, if you lead with your helmet, its a suspension. If it was a minor offense, make it a quarter suspension. If it worse, increase the suspension. According to ex-NFL players (mainly radio hosts), you shouldn't be leading with your helmet to tackle anyway. |
| #97zombie_babiesOct 19, 2010 15:41:22 | Yeah, I can agree with that with the addition that if it's bad enough the player should be ejected. Harrison should not have been for the first one, but two? His ass should have been bounced and it's a disgrace that he was allowed to continue to play. |
| #98Robin_HoodlumOct 19, 2010 16:15:18 | Yeah, I don't know how well it'll be implemented but it's gotten to the point that something needs to be done. Look at Harrison. He took two shots at two players, took 'em out and then said he tries to hurt people. Oh, and he wasn't flagged once. Yeah, something needs to be done. That's not the way to play. At least one of those hits was legal. And he has been fined $75,000 but no suspension. Why don't we just put skirts on them and play two-hand touch? Football is a violent game and if you can't run with the big dogs, then stay on the porch... |
| #99EscherEnigmaOct 19, 2010 18:31:12 | Why don't we just put skirts on them and play two-hand touch? They play rugby at my school. So it's funny hearing you complain about the wussification of football. Like complaining that water is wet. |
| #100Robin_HoodlumOct 19, 2010 18:40:33 | Why don't we just put skirts on them and play two-hand touch? Whats this? |
| #101EscherEnigmaOct 19, 2010 18:56:16 | Take football. Take away the helmets, the shoulder and chest pads, and a referee that stops the game every ten seconds. You're close to rugby. It's a more violent game. |
| #102Robin_HoodlumOct 19, 2010 18:58:39 | Take football. Take away the helmets, the shoulder and chest pads, and a referee that stops the game every ten seconds. You're close to rugby. It's a more violent game. Ahhhh, I get it now. Yeah, I've seen rugby... It's pretty darn tough! |
| #103scypioOct 20, 2010 8:30:27 | Take football. Take away the helmets, the shoulder and chest pads, and a referee that stops the game every ten seconds. You're close to rugby. It's a more violent game. I think the addition of helmets (like used in the current NFL) makes the game more violent. Not only does it let players do dumber stuff, but it gives them a weapon to do so. Someone isn't going to launch their head at the head of another player as much if they're not helmetted. Also, there's no passing in rugby (from my knowledge). So it really doesn't relate well since the most brutal hits occur during passing plays (I believe all the three big hits were during passing plays this weekend). Typically players run through trafficked areas at high speeds then catch (or try to catch) the ball, which leaves them defenseless while anyone player is free to hit them. Comparing NFL to rugby seems akin to comparing hockey to soccer. The games are probably more similar than football and rugby. Hockey players are padded. There are more breaks in action in hockey. Players play less of the game. But hockey is much more violent than soccer. |
| #104zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 8:39:43 | At least one of those hits was legal. There's a big difference between making a big hit and trying to take someone out by possibly permanently injuring them. Leading with your head to try and jack the other guy in the head should be something people see as a problem. Thankfully the vast majority of players do. So yeah, not so much wussification as protecting people from being injured intentionally. And with Harrison, he also decided to come out and say he tries to hurt people. So, uhh, how is that good? If ya can't beat the players on the field, ya don't deserve to win. |
| #105scypioOct 20, 2010 8:58:56 | I have no analyzed all three (or four) hits. But from what I hear, the worst hit (legally) was the Merriwether one, then the Harrison hit to Masosdfnasodfmas (sorry, don't know his name), then the Desaun Jackson hit. People seemed to think that the Merriwether hit was clearly dirty and the Desaun Jackson hit was clearly clean. But they both recieved the same penalty. |
| #106zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 9:31:27 | Yeah, the hit on Jackson looked like it was dirty until it was replayed. The guy didn't lead with his head and he didn't make contact with Jackson's helmet either. To me, it was clean. I think they enforced a fine because of the combination of how badly Jackson was hurt and how many other players got head jacked last week. If it was the only one? I dunno. I mean, dood hurt himself making that hit. Still, he was flagged so I don't know if that meant they had to fine him or what. Since Harrison got fined without getting flagged, though, I really dunno what's required and what's not. Seems like it was done to make a statement. Too bad, the hit was legal. Like Harrison's hit on Cribbs was called legal cuz Cribbs was a RB at the time and not defenseless. Thing is, his head was still targeted and Harrison did it on purpose. Anyhoo, it was legal so I can understand the no call. Massoqwherigh, otoh, was in the process of making the catch and was totally defenseless. Looking at close up stills, you can see he's totally focused on the ball when Harrison jumps head first into his helmet. No flag - which is BS - but a fine and that sorta makes up for it a little. But the guy did it twice in a few plays, admitted he did it on purpose and does stuff like that with the express purpose of hurting people in mind. To me, he should be suspended for that. And doing crap like that isn't 'tough man football'. It's cowardice, plain and simple. Like I said, if you can't beat the players on the field, you don't deserve to win. If you have to take guys out to beat them, maybe you should try improving your game so you don't suck so hard instead. |
| #107scypioOct 20, 2010 9:45:18 | I think the whole "hitting a defenseless reciever" rule is bad. It should just be a blanket foul against helmet to helmet which includes forearms or something. If you hit a reciever, it shouldn't be worse than a running back. Also, I want my team to hit defenseless recievers if they can't make a play on the ball. If someone is going to catch a 20 yd pass on third down, what is the defense supposed to do; let him catch the ball, then tackle him? They should be allowed to try to separate the reciever from the ball. They just shouldn't be used to target the reciever's head or lead with their own head. And seeing how the fines were layed down, I have a bad feeling that Dunta Robinson would have been suspended just because the hit was brutal. And that's really wrong. |
| #108zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 9:53:17 | Yeah, I actually agree with that. I'm also for ejections in the worst cases (repeat offenders, obviously intentional shots to 'blow up' the target, etc) but that's also not the best thing since that means Robinson would likely have been ejected for a legal hit. If the point of the action is to remove a player from the game and the action is a foul, the penalty should be removing the offending player from the game whether or not the target was injured. Thing is, this also allows the refs to have a massive amount of power over the game and could result in some sort of tampering. Really, there's no real solution. Fining does nothing. These guys - especially ones like Harrison that knowingly break the rules on purpose - don't care about $10k like you and I do. That's minutes to them. The only thing that gets to them is time off - and there's obvious issues with that, too. So I guess we could institute replay for penalties but that opens a gigantic can of worms and nobody wants to do it cuz then the games would never end. Meh, it just sucks that people can get away with trying to hurt other guys in a way that could permanently injure them or worse. |
| #109scypioOct 20, 2010 10:03:32 | Since I hate NFL refs, I'm tentative to allow ejections. But if its egreious and verified by replay, I could be okay with it. The problem, obviously is that Robinson would have probably been ejected. I think suspensions by the league after the fact during the week is probably the best way. You get around tampering and fixes since I assume it'll consist of higher ups in the league would make tons of money. Like there probably aren't enough that even idiot Goodell could have the final yes/no confirmation. And yeah, I agree that fines are worthless. Rodney Harrison stated that on Sunday Night Football. He would allocate a certain amount to fines but it was okay since his paychecks were greater. Suspensions are the way to go. And I would include this for all players. The penalty should not be based on your target. If you lower your head against a running back or even if you lower your head as a running back, it should all be the same. |
| #110zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 10:22:33 | That is exactly what needs to be done and I'm with ya 100%. Too bad the NFL probably won't go that far (and the NFLPA prob would fight it if they tried) and would screw it up somehow if they did. Suspensions afer the game are probably the best way to do it, but that still allows a player to alter the game by purposefully targeting and injuring key players and suffering no immediate penalty for it. Like say somebody decides to take out Chris Johnson when Young is out. Think that may make a big difference in the game? It sucks that in order to protect those that don't you have to let those that do get away with it temporarily. And the final game of the year for a team facing a playoff team or even the SB itself would still allow people some room. Sure they miss a check next year, but the impact they could immediately have may outweigh that problem. Still, what you propose above is the best option. |
| #111zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 14:55:02 | What the ... I seriously hope this isn't true, but for some reason I believe it. Refs asking coaches to take timeouts for TV breaks. Yeah, that's a good thing. EDIT: Nem'mind, it appears this was just a case of Fisher bein' Fisher. All a joke. |
| #112zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 15:00:37 | So now Harrison is whining about the fine. Says he may quit football since he got fined for a legal tackle. Too bad it wasn't legal - even if the refs missed it. Dummy. Oh well, at least he's supporting my points about his character nicely. |
| #113scypioOct 20, 2010 15:21:37 | What a baby. So he's going to threaten to quit a job which he gets paid millions. Does he think he's so important people will actually care? Sure, the Steelers and their fans will be disappointed, but they'll get over it. Its not like the league comes to a halt when a player retires. What an overpriveledged idiot. |
| #114zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 15:49:49 | Yup. He only makes $13mil this year. We should feel sorry for the baby. Can't play the game if he's not allowed to break the rules. He's breakin' my middle class heart. |
| #115EscherEnigmaOct 20, 2010 16:02:35 | Yup. He only makes $13mil this year. ... and suddenly that fine you lot mentioned doesn't seem so large anymore. |
| #116zombie_babiesOct 20, 2010 16:12:01 | That's kinda the point. Most guys just don't care. Brandon Merriwether, otoh, lost 9% of his income for his illegal hit. Contracts are pretty different. Then again, it was his base pay without incentives so it could end up being a crapton less than that percentage when the season is over. |
| #117Robin_HoodlumOct 20, 2010 16:50:35 | At least one of those hits was legal. Did you listen to the entire interview? He says he likes to hurt people... shake them up enough to come out for a play... make them scared to get the ball next time, etc. He also said he DOES NOT try to INJURE other players. There is a difference between getting hurt and being injured. |
| #118zombie_babiesOct 21, 2010 9:27:39 | Did you listen to the entire interview? Yes I did (ok, I read it). So what you (and he) are trying to tell me is that a man that weighs in the neighborhood of 300 lbs who runs as fast as he can toward someone, leaves his feet (giving up all control over his body) and lowers his head to hit a clueless player in the head can somehow decide to 'hurt' the guy instead of injuring him? How? If you can explain how Harrison and the others like him can somehow determine whether or not the massive shots they take at defenseless players will just 'hurt' them and take them out for a play instead of injuring them more seriously, I'll listen. Until then, he's a dirty coward that'd rather take a guy off the field with a cheap shot than actually, you know, see if he's better at the game of football than that guy or not. There is a difference between getting 'hurt' - shaken up, stunned, whatever - and being injured - concussed, paralyzed, etc. Thing is, no human being can control how his body impacts another player once he closes his eyes and leaves his feet. At that point he's turned himself into a projectile and whether the target is 'hurt' or injured is totally out of his hands. So what I'm saying is Harrison is full of **** or too stupid to know he can't possibly determine whether his cheap shots are going to 'hurt' or injure. EDIT: Let's try this, too. You and I are hangin' out and we decide for some (likely drunken) reason that I should try to 'hurt' you with a baseball bat. Not injure, just take a shot at you and 'hurt' you with it. Would you want to take that shot to the head or somewhere less, you know, prone to major catastrophic injury? If these players just wanna 'hurt' guys, why aim for the head? |
| #119scypioOct 22, 2010 11:58:17 | Bengals are visiting Atlanta this weekend. If the Falcons want to be contenders this year, they better beat a good (not great) team at home. Two consective losses would kind of damper their good start. |
| #120Cpt_MichaOct 23, 2010 20:06:39 | I'm going to pretend very very hard that there's not a game this weekend. I know the results already. 9ers win. Probably by a 15-20 point cushion. Only that close thanks to a great defense that's been on the field too long, and the offense gave up all the points. Yeah I know cat country. I know it very well. I know I'm supposed to cheer and go Ra ra go cardiac cats.. but frankly we don't have a team this year. the Freedom Patriots (local highschool team) can do better than these losers. (they are also about the same age as the panthers players too lol) Matt Moore is supposed to start this week but our Protection has been non existent, we have pretty much Zero receivers, and frankly our running game is busted as well. |
| #121Robin_HoodlumOct 23, 2010 21:41:05 | GO STEELERS!!! |
| #122Robin_HoodlumOct 24, 2010 17:50:19 | 5 - 1! GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!! |
| #123Cpt_MichaOct 24, 2010 21:29:42 | holy crap. You know I was just listening to a guy saying how the NFC west wasn't a joke anymore. Yeah that's why the the 9ers just got their faces trounced by the Cats. |
| #124scypioOct 25, 2010 10:22:19 | holy crap. Not that the 49ers don't suck and the NFC West doesn't suck, but there is a serious disadvantage of going from the West Coast to the East Coast and playing a 1 pm game. But that doesn't mean the NFC West still doesn't suck. The Falcons looked like they'd have a laugher, but the Bengals made a massive comeback. Luckily the Falcons held them off at the end. There was very little defense in that game, but I'll take it. |
| #125zombie_babiesOct 25, 2010 11:50:31 | So the Buckeyes remembered how to play defense ... a week too late. Man, rebuilding to take on SEC and PAC 10 type teams works great against teams that run those schemes - cuz they're small and fast so you need to be fast. Thing is, against an ol' school Big 10 team like Wisconsin, well, you get that game last week. Purdue, while not nearly as talented as Oregon, is built a lot like the Ducks. They shut the Ducks down in the Rose Bowl and then shut the Boilermakers down Saturday. And that's to be expected - it's how they're built now. Too bad they still have to play the Hawkeyes. In Iowa city. We'll see how the sleek speed handles another smash-mouth team. Hopefully better than it 'handled' the Badgers. The Browns? What can I say? Not bad. The Saits are in trouble, sure, but I don't think the last year Browns would have done it. Then again, this new version of the Browns is terrible at just about everything but beating the defending champ. This makes three years in a row. It's not a common feat. Also not terribly important, but us Cleveland fans takes what we can gets. |
| #126Cpt_MichaNov 02, 2010 10:30:13 | So yeah. Cats don't exist. The Rams... seriously we lost to the Rams. |
| #127scypioNov 02, 2010 11:40:18 | The Rams are good! Sam Bradford looks like he's going to be a good player. |
| #128Cpt_MichaNov 02, 2010 21:38:57 | The Rams only look good. I don't think they are actually good. However this weekend definitely confirmed, Fox has to go. |
| #129Robin_HoodlumNov 03, 2010 7:28:22 | Doing great with my fantasy teams though... |
| #130scypioNov 03, 2010 8:26:23 | The Rams only look good. I don't think good like a top team, but I think good as competing for a playoff spot. I think they won 4 games already, right? Doing great with my fantasy teams though... Mine too. I'm 7-1, although injuries kind of hurt me. I won the last two weeks primarily because I played really bad teams. |
| #131Cpt_MichaNov 03, 2010 8:32:25 | I don't think they have many more wins left in them though. I could be totally wrong, but I think their a soft team like last years Giants. Only this time the softies aren't undefeated and no one's going "Zomg best team evarz!" over them. (thank god, even if it did feel good when I was vindicated) Their play over the Cats wasn't so much better that they could have walked away with a bigger score. Which is generally how I judge a team, is how do they score and how often vs the Cats D. (as the panthers have a very strong D. It just gets stuck out there all game) I don't feel they'll make it to the playoffs, maybe a wild card if some of the other teams stumble and some of the not so good teams act as a spoiler for that spot. |
| #132scypioNov 03, 2010 8:39:20 | The thing is that they division is absolutely horrible. As long as they can beat teams like the Cardinals, Seahawks, and 49ers, they'll get into the playoffs. They might not make it, but I think they'll be competing for it. I think they definately are in the upswing. |
| #133Cpt_MichaNov 03, 2010 8:49:45 | Yeah, Damned Rams or no, they are still with the ranks of the Seahawks. So compared to their division their God. |
| #134z_bNov 03, 2010 10:17:51 | So ... uhh ... what's the deal with ... uhh ... the Raiders? Like, how the hell did they put up like 90 points in the last two games? It feels like ... like the world is wrong or something. |
| #135scypioNov 03, 2010 10:22:16 | Bruce Gradokowski is their savor. He just doesn't screw up (too much) and they run for a ton of yards. But its good to see some horrible teams finally get a little better. |
| #136z_bNov 03, 2010 12:06:08 | Too bad he sucked balls in Cleveland. But yeah, as much as I hate the Raiders it's nice to see the schlubs startin' to pick it up and some of the good teams start to drop off. That's how the NFL - with its cap - is supposed to work. It's a good thing they decided to keep using the salary ca ... whoops. |
| #137scypioNov 05, 2010 8:47:59 | For the record, I hate Joe Namath. I never watched him play, but he has a weekly spot on a radio program I listen to. He's sounds so retarded, slurs his words like he's drunk, has horrible opinions, says nothing of substance, and is just annoying as hell. But they advertise his weekly spot like its the greatest since they're shills to the Jets and Namath is their only "star" in team history or something. And admittedly, I've never seen him play, but his numbers are horrible, even compared to others of his time. So I guess it means if you talk big and win, its better than actually be good or something. Anyway, I have to go to a wedding on Sunday. So no football this weekend for me =( |
| #138zombie_babiesNov 05, 2010 8:55:26 | I liked the way he tried to drunkenly pick up that sideline reporter, though. One of the best moments in football history, IMO. Heh. I will also be missin' football this weekend. Maybe catch some of the late game, I dunno and maybe some of the Monday night game. Oh well. |
| #139scypioNov 09, 2010 10:30:22 | I loved how the Browns layed the smack down on the stupid Patriots. Best team in football... I wonder if people will still call them that. |
| #140IdolisNov 09, 2010 13:14:13 | The Vikings look like their starting to come around despite all the drama. I like that Camarillo (sp?) kid. I liked him in the preseason and was waiting for his breakout game and that play running down the interception to knock the ball loose and getting a touchback was just what I needed. The first three quarters it looked like most of the team was just going to lie down and let the Cardinals take the game with the exception of Favre, Harvin, and Camarillo. Childress sat Jared Allen for a few plays, I think to send a message, and the next thing you know he's got 2 1/2 sacks or something like that. Yep, in the fourth quarter, they decided to play like the team they are capable of being. Hopefully, they can keep it going. |
| #141zombie_babiesNov 10, 2010 12:14:42 |
I think they may be, actually. The defense is certainly better - though it still needs a lot of work (especially in the secondary) but the offense is ... creative. It's not stagnant anymore, the line is playing well and helping Hillis get the job done which makes it easier for Colt. And Colt is a wonderful game manager and that's all you need when you've got Hillis. And all you can do when all you have is Hillis, but I'm hopin' we'll get some receivers at some point. A good sign that the front office stuff is better is that they did not try to pick up Moss even though they've got nobody that can run and catch. He'd have been a terrible fit and, if they picked him up, it would have been a sign of real desperation. Now I find myself hoping Mangini sticks around. Don't know if it'll happen, but I think it may work. Then again, gimmicky stuff seldom lasts long and damned near never translates to the next season. Re: Vikings: I think they're done. The Packers are far superior and that's without their primary RB. The Vikings barely beat a terrible, terrible Cardinals team. Hell, when the Cards were good they were still pretty bad. It's sad but Favre is finally finished and the Vikes just don't have enough to really make any noise. They'll have moments, but that's all that they'll be able to squeeze out of this year. |
| #142IdolisNov 10, 2010 12:30:48 | It's true, but when we played Green Bay in Green Bay, I think they made a game of it. In the losses we've had this year, its been by less than 10 points (I think). So, they have been able to hang around and the Cardinals were at .500 when we played so they can't be that bad. All that said though, you could be right if the team doesn't play and judging by the first three quarters of the Cardinals game it is likely they won't but I'm keeping hope alive. LOL |
| #143zombie_babiesNov 10, 2010 12:40:52 | Well, ya gotta keep hope alive! That's what bein' a fan is all about! Well, until the team rapes your hope to death and you become a cynic that believes in city curses and the like. Then? Welcome to Cleveland, brah. ![]() I honestly held out hope for a while as far as the Vikings go. I'm still a Favre fan, you know. But after watchin' him a couple times, I guess reality smacked me around a bit. I guess there's still a chance they could win it all, but I just don't feel it. Then again, I'm a Cleveland fan so it's not like I know about teams that have what it takes. ;) |
| #144IdolisNov 10, 2010 12:47:50 | LOL Favre had a hell of a game though, so even if the Vikings don't go anywhere. The most I'm hoping for is a playoff birth. Maybe as a wildcard but Farve threw the most yards in his 20 year career despite the two interceptions. He's still got it when his line decides to do their job. I'm hoping he does finally retire after this year though, his age is definitely showing. |
| #145zombie_babiesNov 10, 2010 13:33:41 | LOL I bolded the part that worries me. See, even when Brett performs well, he's still tossin' picks. Like, every single game. I'd see a Viking win, read the recap, see his numbers and be like 'alright, he's back' until I got to the interceptions - which he always has - and then I come back down to reality. Hell, look at the Saints to see what a crapload of picks can do to an otherwise elite team. Brees is havin' an off year (largely cuz they have no running game right now, but still) and it's killing the team. The Vikings can't afford to have Favre toss picks with the way the defense is meh-in' it up this year. Last year the Vikings were amazing. Last year Brett through way less picks. So, until that changes about him - and I doubt it can considering his condition (not age, actual condition - he tosses picks when he's hurt, it just happens) - the Vikes are in real trouble. Granted, it is Brett Favre so I suppose it is possible, but I just don't see it. They dug a big hole. |
| #146IdolisNov 10, 2010 13:38:41 | Can't argue with that. |
| #147scypioNov 12, 2010 9:06:30 | Matt Ryan is good. Not having the NFL Network is not. I think the Falcons really need to have a top two seed. They look almost invincible at home and... less so on the road. And I only expect that to get worse and the weather gets colder. I heard a stat that said that Matt Ryan is 18-1 (or something very similar) in home games. If they had a #1 seed, I could see them going to the Superbowl. I don't think I could see them doing the same if they had to travel, especially if Philly or NJ are destinations. |
| #148zombie_babiesNov 12, 2010 9:47:23 | They're good but so is a lot of the NFC. A top seed is something they really do need - and something they have a real shot at getting. Basically I agree with your assessment. No SB for the birds if they don't lock up home field. I'm surprised you left The Tundra off of your list of places they'd not like to go. You mentioned weather as an issue and I can't think of a stadium that poses more late season issues in that department than Lambeau. Not to mention the Pack is pretty damned good, too. |
| #149scypioNov 12, 2010 9:56:58 | I agree, but I left them off initially because I thought they lost more games. But apparently they only lost 3 so yeah, its critical to finish better than the Pack. And for all the talk about how great the AFC is, the NFC kind of smacked them down in the last couple of weeks: Atlanta beat the Ravens New Orleans beat the Steelers Green Bay beat the Jets Philadelphia beat the Colts And people typically talk about how those AFC teams are the best in the league (in addition to NE who lost to the Browns). |
| #150zombie_babiesNov 12, 2010 10:03:53 | Hey now, the Browns whooped the Saints, too! And ... uhh ... lost to KC and Tampa but whatever. ![]() Yeah, the NFC is, IMO, the superior conference. The 'best' teams rarely look that way for long in the AFC. I think maybe it's just that people are thrown off cuz the expected good teams in the AFC are the good teams but the NFC had a li'l change with who's the best and some teams expected to be at the top had problems. Really, I think it's that the lower level teams in the NFC improved which makes it look like the upper level teams aren't as good. That's certainly not the case, though. |
| #151scypioNov 12, 2010 10:18:01 | Yeah, I was just trying to say that the Pats losts recently, so they're invincibility isn't as what people claim. I still don't understand why they got rid of Moss. From the games that I watched since, they're offense looked bad. In the game they play against the Ravens, they really could gotten blown out because their offense was just so bad. But they did eventually win in OT. But I still think its hard to pick what I think are the best teams. I think Green Bay could have been the top, but injuries have hit them hard (although they're still rolling along). The Giants recently look great but its hard to forget how Indy totally embarassed them in week 2. Philly with Vick is so dynamic, but Vick's always a run away from the sideline. Atlanta seems to drop off too much on the road. But yeah, the NFC is pretty solid since many divisions are 3 teams deep. |
| #152zombie_babiesNov 12, 2010 13:12:51 | Yep, at first it looked like the Moss thing was good but I'm not so sure now. Though losing his atitude is a bonus. Still, I think it hurt 'em. The Giants are an interesting team cuz they have the tools but don't always click. They're as prone to being blown out as they are to blowing a team out. Punch 'em in the mouth early and they'll probably crumble. You're right about Vick, too. The Eagles need him. Badly. But he won't change his style and that means he's one shot away from bein' done for the year. Any run - which he needs to do - could be the end. So they may fall off the scene quickly. Green Bay is doin' alright all things considered, but I fear that their defense is playing above its level lately. I mean, Matthews is a beast but I don't think the rest of the guys are as good as they look right now. And the injuries may prove to be enough of a drain to do 'em in. Yeah, as far as best teams go, I dunno. I think right now at this moment it's the Pack in the NFC and the Steelers in the AFC. Thing is, that'll probably be totally different after Sunday. Which means, of course, that this is an awesome year to be an NFL fan. |
| #153Cpt_MichaNov 14, 2010 22:22:15 | Man the NFC south blows. It's sad when the highlight is Tampa Bay. |
| #154Robin_HoodlumNov 15, 2010 5:45:21 | STOOPID STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| #155jesse.two.coinsNov 15, 2010 6:20:56 | HOW ABOUT DEM JAGS? Ha I was at their game and it was "epic"!!!!1 |
| #156zombie_babiesNov 15, 2010 9:37:35 | How did the other five guys that go to Jags games like it? ![]() Stoopid Browns. Couldn't put it together enough to beat three top teams in a row. Oh well, they're still better than I thought they'd be and, I dare say, slightly better than their record indicates. Not much, mind, but slightly. I think Colt is the real McCoy, too ... ... ... ![]() And I was wrong about the Steelers, obviously. So the title of Best in the AFC - for now - goes back to New England. The Browns beat their ass but they obviously made some pretty damned good adjustments. The Steelers? Hey guys, you miss Holmes yet? With Ward hurt and Santonio still being, well, good, do ya really think cuttin' him for weed was the answer? Meh, whatever. And I was right about the Giants. Still too swingy to be actually good. And the Buckeyes won after an ugly, ugly first half and a terrible offensive performance by everyone not named Dan 'Boom' Herron. Jeebus. Oh, and Tressel pulled the kid when he was at 191 yards for the game. Why do that? I understand the game was well in hand, but why not let the kid hit 200? That was pretty lame. The Bucks still have hope for the Rose Bowl, too - if they can win out. Er, and Wisconsin loses. I guess the way it's all laid out now the race is a 3 way tie and the team that heads to the Rose Bowl will be the Big 10 winner (3 way tie if things hold up) with the highest BCS ranking. And that, right now, is Wisconsin. Since OSU is in the top 10, should they win out and not be selected for the Rose Bowl, it's very likely they will be tapped for another BCS game as it's all about da dollahs and the Buckeye fans do travel. Man, isn't the BCS awesome! What? No? Yeah, you're right. |
| #157jesse.two.coinsNov 15, 2010 12:01:27 | How did the other five guys that go to Jags games like it? thats cold zombie we made houston suck it :p |
| #158zombie_babiesNov 15, 2010 12:27:52 | Hey man, I wasn't commentin' on the team, I was bashin' the notoriously terrible fanbase. ![]() Though this is the time of the season that everyone starts to make Houston suck it. They're entire franchise history is pretty much one giant second half collapse. Heh. |
| #159jesse.two.coinsNov 15, 2010 12:30:15 | Hey man, I wasn't commentin' on the team, I was bashin' the notoriously terrible fanbase. oh I didn't think they were that bad lol empty victory :P yeah theres a bunch of stores here that are called "jagmania" ...nobody likes them ![]() |
| #160zombie_babiesNov 15, 2010 12:36:56 | No victory in the NFL is an empty one. Well, most of them aren't. I'd not call this an empty win for the Jags. About the fanbase, last I heard they were struggling to overcome blackouts constantly cuz of awful ticket sales. They were considering drafting Tebow simply because he'd have automatically brought in a crapton of doofus Gator fans to watch him suck at the next level. They didn't - which was smart and something that kinda surprised me (doing the right thing for the team instead of the right thing for ticket sales) so I figured attendance still sucked. |
| #161jesse.two.coinsNov 15, 2010 12:42:44 | No victory in the NFL is an empty one. Well, most of them aren't. I'd not call this an empty win for the Jags. fxck tebow lol only retards like the gators lol but yeah the stadium was full when i went so I assume we're doing better... |
| #162zombie_babiesNov 15, 2010 13:42:53 | That's cool. I'm really not aware of the goings on in Jacksonville's stadium so it's no shock to me that I was off on the figures. ;) I just remember an article before the draft talkin' about how sad it was down there and how the owner was really considerin' Tebow to sell more tickets. That's just not the way to do things, ya know? But they didn't so all is well. |
| #163Cpt_MichaNov 15, 2010 19:14:13 | The Cats only victory was a hollow one. the 49ers. That Is akin to winning the special olympics I think.... |
| #164zombie_babiesNov 16, 2010 9:27:44 | Yeah, that's pretty hollow. Heh. ![]() So how 'bout that ass-whuppin' the Eagles laid down last night? Got home late since I was workin' out, took a shower, turned the game on and was like '28-0 Eagles, sweet ... oh. my. god. It's still the first quarter!'. And then, 9 seconds into the second it was 35-0. Holy crap, man. That Vick guy is pretty good. Over 300 passing, around 80 rushing and 6 TDs! Yeah, he's pretty ok. ;) |
| #165SomeoneNov 16, 2010 12:00:44 | That was quite the amazing first play/quarter/half. The Cowboys may have turned out the lights on the Giants , but call 911, the Eagles were on fire.Which of course means they are going to find a new and interesting way to blow it next week, as they always seem to do... |
| #166zombie_babiesNov 16, 2010 12:49:41 | They're undefeated when Vick starts and completes a game, he hasn't fumbled or tossed a pick yet so ... yeah, they're kinda due. Heh. |
| #167Robin_HoodlumNov 16, 2010 13:18:45 | LOL... After the Steelers lost to the Pats, I went off on facebook, cursing the Steelers and calling them "has-beens" and "bums". I even started clapping crazily and with vigor every time the Steelers screwed up or the Pats did good. LOL A lot of my "friends" (real and virtual) didn't like that very much... But hey! That's how I relieve frustration and anger... The Steelers are still my team... always have been since I can remember football. |
| #168zombie_babiesNov 16, 2010 13:48:34 | I'm a terrible person to watch football with - when I care about the team so this really only applies to the Buckeyes as of late though even they're losin' me. I am a pessimist to the extreme and believe that any bad play spells doom for my team and will launch immediately into a negative tirade against the team I and my pals are rootin' for. And I do this sober. I've made a real effort to stop this cuz it's no fun for the people I'm with or me when I do it and have done pretty well. Still, there's the chance I'll spiral into a pattern of pointless griping if things turn - even temporarily - for the worse. Unless, of course, it's a game played by teams I don't care about. Then? Then it's nuthin' but fun. |
| #169ADHadhNov 16, 2010 14:29:19 | LOL... Buy a punching bag or blow something up next time. No one likes a "butthurt" flamer throwing tantrums online. It's simply seen as immature ;) |
| #170jesse.two.coinsNov 18, 2010 7:02:09 | That's cool. Oh not at all lol I found out we're steadily getting better at putting people in those seats. but on the gripping hand I think so many people went that theres not gonna be enough people for the next game and it'll be a blackout ![]() |
| #171scypioNov 19, 2010 7:58:58 | Man the NFC south blows. Ummmm, did you forget about the 7-2 Falcons? |
| #172zombie_babiesNov 19, 2010 8:35:02 | Yep, they were even able to defeat the Browns. And so we the Bucs for that matter. Something the Saints and the Pats can't say. ![]() |
| #173scypioNov 19, 2010 8:48:39 | The Browns looked really good. Its a shame that they couldn't finish off the Jets. Doubly so since the Jets keep squeaking by and the Browns are a good story or whatever. Now, hopefully the Falcons won't have problems with a cross-country trip to a tough and improving Rams team, especially since Matty Ice kind of sucks on the road. (Insert refrigeration joke) |
| #174zombie_babiesNov 19, 2010 9:41:20 | Yeah, the Rams are another team to watch out for. The Lions would be if whatshisass could go a week without blowin' a shoulder. Even then, Best is pretty good. I think the Falcons will be ok, though. This is an odd year but they're actually a good team. I don't see them chokin' here. The Browns are a neat story. Too bad they couldn't find this groove sooner. The secondary still needs lotsa work and they need receivers that don't, you know, suck. Gimmicks only work for a while. Hillis is good and McCoy can manage a game plus the line plays well so they've got that. They seem close to really turnong a corner. It's not so sad to be a Browns fan now. Hell, they're even getting some national respect - even after that Jets loss. They beat 2 SB caliber teams in two weeks and took another to the wire (and could have won had it not been for a mistake - don't try for more yards when you're a tiny dood, man). Hopefully they'll keep it goin' but who knows. |
| #175Cpt_MichaNov 21, 2010 23:13:35 | Man the NFC south blows. There is that. Technically they are the best team. But I think this is going to be another average year for them. Tampa is making the highlights because they are in my opinion improving with every game. Where as in the case of the Birds, they're about where they were last year. And in the case of the Saints and Cats.... yeah..... |
| #176scypioNov 22, 2010 8:40:35 | Atlanta is much better than they were last year. Matt Ryan missed a bunch of games last year (and they missed the playoffs by one game) and they actually have some sort of defense this year. I think they're significantly improved this year. They already won 8 games (so unless they collapse, they'll have a much better than average year) and their loses came against top flight teams on the road (the Steelers and the Eagles). But I do agree that Tampa is a team on the rise. So I actually think the NFC South is the best division in the NFL since they go three teams deep. The bar that I've been going to for the last few weeks is pretty interesting. There's the normal large following of common teams (Steelers, Cowboys, locals), but there's also a few Browns and Lions fans. Its pretty funny watching them react to their games, especially the Lions fans. They were in a tough close game with Dallas until that wild punt return... those silly Lions. The Browns fans seem pretty okay, very low key... kinda defeated seeming, but loyal. |
| #177zombie_babiesNov 22, 2010 12:27:15 | Defeated is a good word, heh. Cleveland sports fans are notoriously loyal. Bonds forged through suffering, no doubt. On that note, stoopid Browns. Can't beat the Jags? I knew they were just a tease. Oh well, at least nobody important hurt their ankle or ... oh wait, Colt did exactly that, didn't he. I swear they need to look into what cleats the QBs are wearin' or somethin'. Three QBs, three ankle injuries. Lame. (get it? lame? cuz they hurt their ... )Anyhoo, I like the Eagles. The Giants, while flighty, are ranked like 1st in D and 2nd in O (or vice versa) and the birds were able to win. Vick didn't look fantastic, though, and the Giants may have exposed somethin'. Defend the run well and load the weak side to seal it. Make Vick scramble right and he'll pretty much forget about passin'. I hate it when announcers actually get something right, but Collinsworth nailed that'n. |
| #178scypioNov 22, 2010 12:36:16 | I only watched the first of the game, but I wouldn't say the Giants solved Vick. The score would have easily been 21-3 if the Eagles recievers didn't drop two catches in the endzone. One was a hard catch by Desaun, but one was a lob which bounced off Jason Avant's chest. So its definately should've been a TD. Add in a blocked FG and the game could have been pretty out of control by half time. |
| #179zombie_babiesNov 22, 2010 12:39:20 | Yeah, it was more of a beating than the score indicated but I think the strategy worked. Vick scrambled right quite a few times and he never threw the ball when he did. Not once. So, if you can stop him runnin' and do that more than once a drive, I think you can slow him down. Thing is, I don't yhink there's a team right now that can do it. The Eagles' offensive line is insanely good at pass protection. Vick had at minimum 3 seconds to throw and sometimes had 5 or better. That's nuts. I don't see any defense that can beat them. As it stands, the only solution to Vick is to hope he has an off night. |
| #180scypioNov 22, 2010 12:54:41 | Yeah, with Vick, defensive lines are afraid to rush him too aggressively. They need to keep him contained because if they just go all out trying to pressure him, running lanes open up and he'll be running downfield if you don't sack him. I guess there's a reason John Madden called him "the super ultimate weapon" =P |
| #181zombie_babiesNov 22, 2010 13:01:04 | Yeah, he's kinda good. ;) I'm just glad he's back and back in shape. Actually, he's arguably the best he's ever been thanks to a newfound accuracy with his passing. He just needs to slide more often. heh. Guys really, really wanna take him out. |
| #182jesse.two.coinsNov 23, 2010 7:28:25 | sooo uhhh....HOW BOUT 'DEM JAGS....AGAIN!!!! WOOOO!!! Just sayin |
| #183Cpt_MichaNov 23, 2010 8:07:37 | sooo uhhh....HOW BOUT 'DEM JAGS....AGAIN!!!! WOOOO!!! Just sayin That's like beating the panthers. It ain't sayin much. The Browns while not a terrible team so bad that you should turn the tv off this year. Still aren't good. |
| #184jesse.two.coinsNov 23, 2010 8:11:14 | sooo uhhh....HOW BOUT 'DEM JAGS....AGAIN!!!! WOOOO!!! Just sayin wow this is depressing :-( lol |
| #185scypioNov 23, 2010 8:15:47 | The Browns are much better than the Panthers. I was watching the Panthers play last weekend and it was horrible. Their GM needs to go; they have so little talent on that team its an embarassment. |
| #186zombie_babiesNov 23, 2010 8:27:50 | sooo uhhh....HOW BOUT 'DEM JAGS....AGAIN!!!! WOOOO!!! Just sayin Go ahead, you deserve it. As far as marquee wins go, though, I think my Browns have yuor jags beat. So ... uhh ... I'll use that thought to make myself feel better about losin' to the Jags after beating the Saints, beating down the Pats and then hangin' with the Chosen of Tymora Jets. Seriously, can a team be more lucky? The Browns are much better than the Panthers. I was watching the Panthers play last weekend and it was horrible. Their GM needs to go; they have so little talent on that team its an embarassment. Yar. Browns = moving forward, Cats = moving backward. Maybe the Panthers can Hire Chilly now that he's out of Minnesota, heh. ![]() |
| #187scypioNov 23, 2010 8:36:33 | I guess the Panther dream and rumor has been Bill Cowher since apparently he's from there or something. I imagine it'll be a good coach and Fox will probably get work too since he's regarded well. I would say Carolina seems like it'll be bad for a while, but teams can turn around fast in the NFL these days (like Tampa and KC, for example). |
| #188zombie_babiesNov 23, 2010 8:53:03 | I think a lot of it is gonna depend upon the labor stuff, too. Oh well, Cowher would certainly be an improvement. Every time I hear Gruden open his annoying mouth it seems like he wants to be back on the field, too. Whoever gets either had better hope that things work out better with them than stuff has gone for Shanahan. ;) But seriously? I'm so sick of the Good Luck Jets. Somebody needs to whup their ass and soon. Thie barely skatin' by stuff bothers me. |
| #189scypioNov 23, 2010 9:20:51 | Eh, the Redskins are a big improvement over how they were last year. So its progress. And I agree with you dislike of the Jets. Its especially bad around NY because you hear it all the time. Before the Houston game, people were saying that they needed a blowout victory for their morale... because you know, they would obviously going to win 'cuz they're so good. Stupid Jets and their fans are horrible. Its like they think they're the worst team ever with how they talk. "Whoa is me who is a Jets fan." |
| #190zombie_babiesNov 23, 2010 9:29:35 | Heh, yeah the Jets are annoyin. I just wish the Browns could have held on in that'n. Oh well, there's still some games to be played. I agree the Redskins are improved but I don't see it lasting. Personnell is a big deal and Shanahan does not get along with his. Haynesworth and McNabb don't want to be there (sure Donovan signed the extension, but it's hardly a guarantee that he'll be kept around and it's a good idea when you're on the downside and there's a possible labor stoppage looming to get the numbers now) and who knows how the rest of the guys actually feel. Washington needed a culture change, sure, but this one was damned extreme. I like Shanahan myself but I think that he is just too different from the team he's been given. Over time, it'll likely get better but right now things are not as good as they seem. |
| #191Cpt_MichaNov 23, 2010 17:37:06 | I guess the Panther dream and rumor has been Bill Cowher since apparently he's from there or something. I would say Carolina seems like it'll be bad for a while, but teams can turn around fast in the NFL these days (like Tampa and KC, for example). I think we're throwing games for picks at this point. (and to smear Fox's ill deserved reputation) He's not nearly so fantastic that "I'm going to have a job in five minutes after leaving Carolina". Yes he said that. Who decided to sign the players we did (and sign yet another QB who Sucks.) they should go too. Cowher's got alot of connections to this state, and from my understanding has expressed some interest. Whomever we get though is bound to be better than a guy who has no business building a passing team, trying to build one. The QB coach needs to go as well. We Suck and Fail right now. Bad. Honestly I think I could draft some High school players and Beat Carolina with a football team whipped together in a month. |
| #192scypioNov 24, 2010 7:51:18 | We Suck and Fail right now. Bad. Honestly I think I could draft some High school players and Beat Carolina with a football team whipped together in a month. C'mon, when you say stuff like that it makes it hard to take what you say seriously. |
| #193scypioNov 24, 2010 9:59:21 | This week is going to be a test for the Dirty Birds. They have Green Bay coming to Atlanta. Now, I think Green Bay and Philly are the two best teams in the NFC, but if Atlanta is going to do anything in the playoffs, they need to be able to be an elite team at home. So its a big game, not just for home field implications (hell, the Saints and Bucs are right on Atlanta's tail), but to see what they can really do. |
| #194zombie_babiesNov 24, 2010 10:18:10 | Yeah, GB is no joke and they're playing ridiculously well right now. Also comin' off a high after trashin' the Vikes. Should be a stout test. |
| #195Cpt_MichaNov 24, 2010 14:55:29 | C'mon, when you say stuff like that it makes it hard to take what you say seriously. You haven't had the .... em um.... unfound 'joy' of watching us every single game and in the preseason. I really have seen better coordinated highschool teams. Certainly I've seen better College Teams. Sure the Cats are bigger than either of the jr leagues. But frankly they don't know what to do with what they have. They are slow, incapable of handling the ball, and seem clumsy (prone to falling, fumbling, and failing to have anything resembling normal human reaction times). And I don't know if we even have any real plays. Other than Huddle, Timeout, and get the ball to the QB. If we do, evidently we aren't practicing them. |

| #197Cpt_MichaNov 24, 2010 14:58:19 | So ... uhh ... Micha, it looks ... umm ... like the Cats are gonna get win number 2. McCoy is out, Jake the Shake is in. It's official, Browns fans. The season is ovah. Oh god. God ZB rest Cleveland's soul. It was just starting to look bright over there. Is Shakey in for the full season or just the next game or two?Even with Shake in though, I don't know if we will win. We had another team throw four picks and not even find the Redzone. Four. |
| #198zombie_babiesNov 24, 2010 15:11:51 | Yeah, we just got 6 turnovers and lost. Heh. ![]() I guess McCoy's injury is the same as what Jake and Seneca had - high ankle sprain. Delhommed got the start over Wallace cuz of his familiarity with the Cats (you know, he's very familiar with making them lose). They say that they think McCoy will recover faster than the other guys so he may be back soon-ish. Who knows though. And since it was Mangini that said all this, don't be surprised to see Seneca under center or even McCoy. Mangini loves games like that. |
| #199Cpt_MichaNov 24, 2010 15:16:25 | I don't think Mangini is actually dumb enough to field Jake. Unless you guys got one hell of a running game that you've not been talking about or showing. At best shakey's going to throw a couple TDs... then go right back to throwing 6 Ints a game. Given that it's the Cats this year though..... Yeah Really I don't think even that is going to give us the big 2nd win. It's going to become a Fail Off. Who fails the least wins. My money is on Cleveland winning, because frankly they still have a more talented player pool. (Cats, Defense aside which is -okay- but sorely needs some more solid players than the 2-3 guys we have) |
| #200zombie_babiesNov 24, 2010 15:30:17 | Unless Jake pulls a Jake, the Browns should win. And we do have a running game ... sometimes. Hillis is a beast but he's all we really have and when he's dinged up he's a shell. Thing is, the Browns seem to be that team that wins the games they're supposed to lose and loses the games they're supposed to win (not all the time, but a trend). So I'd say the Cats have a shot. |
| #201SomeoneNov 25, 2010 11:22:44 | All this talk of teams doing badly makes me think there should be an alternate "anti-superbowl" at the end of the season, where you take the two worst teams of the season and have them play. Call it the "sucker bowl" or "toilet bowl" or something. Though I'm pretty sure the BCS has already sponsored-out a bowl game to a toilet (not to mention all the suckers) by now, so getting the name might be tricky. |
| #202scypioNov 29, 2010 8:38:07 | You haven't had the .... em um.... unfound 'joy' of watching us every single game and in the preseason. I really have seen better coordinated highschool teams. Certainly I've seen better College Teams. I'm not sure about the exact numbers, but its something like 1 in 100 High Schoolers make it to college ball and 1 in 100 of those make it to the NFL where most of them just retire because they're no good. Remember, your QB (Jimmy Claussin) was "great" and a Heisman contender in college. So I'm willing to bet that you could take any NFL team (the Lions, the Panthers, the Seahawks) and they'd probably dismantle whoever's #1 in the BCS. The greatest college quarterback (Tim Telbow) can't even get on the field in the NFL because he can't actually throw the ball properly. And that's all just skill. Size, strength, and speed are completely different (especially so if you want to compare high schoolers). Go to a high school team and tell me how many players are 6'4", 220 and can play quarterback. And have him surrounded by even taller, more massive linemen who actually are quick and agile. I think you're starting to see the difference. Comparing the NFL to high schoolers is like (using an example you enjoy) comparing Nascar (or some other autosport) to two kids racing their tricked out Civics. In other news, the Dirty Birds got the win over the Pack. That's a very good win but the NFC is still bunched so Atlanta really can't let up. The Saints are just a game back so their showdown in Atlanta will go a long way to determining homefield. And Peyton Hillis is such a beast that he can overcome Jake Delhomme and his "quarterback play". Did you guys see that TD where Hillis just ran over the Carolina defender? He's so good and he can actually catch the ball and stuff. And speaking of Peytons, Peyton Manning is looking bad. I don't know if its just a slump or if the lack of a supporting cast is finally catching up with him, but they looked horrible yesterday. Will it be the first year in a long time that the Colts are not in the playoff? |
| #203Cpt_MichaNov 29, 2010 8:47:51 | Of all the days for Kasey to miss. Couldn't it be when we were already going to lose? Not.... when the game is on the line? Jimmy boy was never great. Being from Notre Dame at this point should be a Red Flag in all honesty for the NFL. I'm sorry but there's not going to be another Joe Montana. Cleveland needs to Fire Shakey. Now though. I can't believe they ever signed him. But after this game? Hah. I doubt he ever starts again. I'd sooner put a RB in the QB position. Scyp: depends on the civics and the kids racing. There's alot of spoiled rich kids with civics making power similar to a stock car. The cars are also lighter. |
| #204jesse.two.coinsNov 29, 2010 8:58:41 | after six loooong years the 'noles finally stomped all over the gators :D |
| #205scypioNov 29, 2010 9:14:18 | Jimmy Clausen was still a contender and "one of the top college players". If you don't like that example, there's another ND boy, Brady Quinn who was so good that he couldn't start for the Browns. Matt Leinert who couldn't start for the post-Kurt Warner Cardinals. Reggie Bush, who's clearly a bust (won the Heisman). Recent Heisman winners: 2009 Mark Ingram - still in college 2008 Sam Bradford - he's good 2007 Tim Telbow - not an NFL talent/is a "wild cat" option 2006 Troy Smith - backup on the 49ers/maybe he starts now 2005 Reggie Bush - backup on the Saints/always hurt 2004 Matt Leinart - backup on the Texans(?)/lost starting job when given to him 2003 J. White - don't know who he is so obviously not a good NFL player 2002 Carson Palmer - was an excellent quarterback, but not anymore 2001 Eric Crouch - not an NFL quarterback, I think he played some WR before retiring And we're not even talking about all those high school players who never do anything in college, let alone the NFL. So I should start comparing local street races to autosports now? |
| #206IdolisNov 29, 2010 10:03:50 | The Vikings finally won a game and it was on the road which is a plus. It being against the Redskins means that they probably should have won the game but I'm impressed that it was without Adrian Peterson. The defense played great though I was worried after the Redskins first possession and they marched right down the field and scored. I felt better when for the first time all season the Vikings did so on theirs. Three game home stand coming up and though I know they haven't played well all season it is more than possible that they can come out of the homestand with a .500 record. Maybe I'm just dreaming but the Vikings didn't have any turnovers and they seemed to play Favre like they wanted to last year but because of his good play they turned him loose instead. Funniest moment was Favre running for a first down to end the game. LOL |
| #207zombie_babiesDec 01, 2010 9:21:06 | Yeah, the Shake did what I thought he would - take the Browns out of the game. They had it all under control and he had to throw it. 'Course Hillis is all sortsa banged up (wonder why) and had a pained look most of the game but damn, how can any offensive coordinator ever let that man throw the ball? Ever? First half looks good and then two straight picks - one taken to the house. What the ****. Seneca Wallace can't be that hurt, can he? He's way better than Jake even though he constantly overthrows. Too bad Colt got hurt. I think if he was in the Browns would have given the Can'ts (sorry Micha ) the Patriots treatment. Oh well, a win is a win - even if it isn't deserved.Oh, Troy Smith is the Niners' starter. He looks ok. I doubt he'll ever be much, though. Then again, when his O line can protect he does pretty ok so who knows. |
| #208Cpt_MichaDec 01, 2010 10:39:21 | Zb calling them the Can'ts is much easier on them than we're being. Whenever the Panthers score, in NC it's now a common practice to start singing "there's a stranger in the house". All we friggin had to do was keep the guys together from last year (sans The Shake, and I'll take a dump this game Julius Crappers) |
| #209zombie_babiesDec 01, 2010 11:37:10 | Yeah, the dropoff was pretty nutso. Aren't they dealing with a lot of injuries, too? What's interesting to me is that the team stands behind the coach. To me, that means something is going right. Look at Dallas and Minnesota to see real trouble, IMO. 'Course they both have better records but still. Heh. ![]() |
| #210scypioDec 01, 2010 11:42:30 | I thought Carolina was bad last year? Maybe they won a bunch of games late in the year? But take off their best player (Peppers) and throw in a rookie quarterback (when he's healthy) and you should get a drop off. Although I do think they've had running back health issues, which obviously is a problem since they would like to run the ball. But I think that Godson or whatever running back they're using now looks pretty decent. |
| #211zombie_babiesDec 01, 2010 12:00:59 | They really seem kinda like a hot mess, IMO. I mean, I read about how bad they were but I actually got to see it last week. It was bad. Like, really bad. They had pretty much one drive the whole game. Lotsa bad luck stuff, too - like that missed FG at the end when the Browns were trying to give it away. Like I said, if McCoy started it would have been far, far uglier for the Panthers. I just can't figure 'em out. They like the coach, he seems to game plan ok but they just can't do it. Even when it's served up to them by Shakey Jake's arm - as opposed to how it all went down last year - they still couldn't do it. I dunno about them Cats. I just don't know. |
| #212Cpt_MichaDec 04, 2010 19:23:13 | I thought Carolina was bad last year? Maybe they won a bunch of games late in the year? But take off their best player (Peppers) and throw in a rookie quarterback (when he's healthy) and you should get a drop off. the Cats were much better last year than their record states. The only reason they did so poorly was Shakey Jakey, being Jake. And peppers taking off pretty much every game. Once we stopped relying on both the wins came surging in. Alot of the problem comes from the fact that Fox more than likely deliberately sabotaged us with bad players (after all it's his last year here), and that we likely won't be fielding our good RBs. And next year it's quite likely we might lose those good RBs leaving us with those horrible rookies. |
| #213zombie_babiesDec 06, 2010 9:41:21 | The Browns miracled another one. Hopefully they're takin' some luck away from the stupid Jets. ![]() The BCS games are in. Wisconsin got the Rose and they play against TCU. Yeah, yeah, the Rose Bowl is the Big10 champ vs the Pac10 champ but this year things are all screwy. Since there's a 3 way tie for Big10 champ, the BCS rankings were used to choose the team. Since Oregon is playing Auburn in the Nat Champ game and since there's a new rule for the Rose Bowl, the second place Pac10 team gets boned. The rule states that if the first place team from either conference is unavailable to play in the game for any reason (like Oregon playing in the Championship or if USC would have won the Pac10 cuz they're banned from bowl games) a BCS ranked non Big6 team must be selected. Or something like that. Anyhoo, the Frogs get to go. Even though the Badgers beat the Buckeyes, I hope they beat the ever livin' crap out of TCU to shut up all the people that want them and Boise to get more respect cuz of their records - records achieved against largely inferior foes. The Buckeyes get the Sugar against Arkansas. Yay, another SEC team. It'd be different if any of the bowl games were played in, you know, weather, but whatever. The Big10 gets to travel to another warm and dry location. Cuz that's fair. I hope the Bucks win (and think they can) but they tend to blow it against the SEC for whatever reason. Hopefully that defense they built to compete with SEC speed works out - especially since it's the reason they lost to Wisconsin. |
| #214Robin_HoodlumDec 06, 2010 9:44:53 | GO STEELERS!!! |
| #215zombie_babiesDec 06, 2010 9:48:31 | Oh yeah, I also think the 'are they really that terrible' question about the Cants was solved yesterday after they surrendered the lead and were then hammered by Pete Carrol's Sea Hacks. And that hit you talked about you know where? Yeah, the fact that that dood didn't get flagged kinda supports the idea that Harrison is a marked man. I don't believe that - er, rather, I feel he is marked cuz he plays that way on purpose - but it sure as hell didn't look good. |
| #216Cpt_MichaDec 06, 2010 10:26:10 | Yep. The Can'ts are Can'ts. They can't find the endzone. With an Instruction Manual, Diagrams, and the other team leading them there. |
| #217jesse.two.coinsDec 06, 2010 11:47:40 | Yep. The Can'ts are Can'ts. ouch dood :P and BTW how about them jags? :D |

I agree with this. I hate how TCU and Boise State get so much respect when they don't play anyone. Apparently TCU is moving to the Big East so at least they'll be in a BCS conference now and can't complain. I really win they schedule both teams against big market teams last year instead of having them play each other in a bowl. Boise State should've played Florida or something last year, but whatever, the NCAA is pretty inept. (Wow, that was pretty poorly written.) |
| #219scypioDec 07, 2010 9:01:21 | I've never been so happy after a Patriots win. The Jets really needed to be smacked down and shut up (although that'll never happen). An interesting stat that I heard this morning: the Jets only beat one team with a winning record - the Pats. And they've been going to OT and needed last minute drives to win against subpar teams. So yeah, the Jets are the AFC Bucs. |
| #220zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 9:16:24 | Go Dirty Birds! Yeah, they're pretty legit. I agree with this. I hate how TCU and Boise State get so much respect when they don't play anyone. But that's what you get with such a *****y system as the BCS. Junk. It's nice that TCU worked to get into a Big 6 conference an' all, but the Big East? ****, man, they'll likely romp through that craptastic conference just as easily as they have where they're at now. It'll be the same except they'll get a guaranteed bid now. Yay. Meh, needs playoff. I've never been so happy after a Patriots win. The Jets really needed to be smacked down and shut up (although that'll never happen). An interesting stat that I heard this morning: the Jets only beat one team with a winning record - the Pats. Now I hate the Jets even more for making me actually cheer for the Pats (which I never do - unless they play the Colts cuz I have that irrational hatred of all things Colts/Peyton Manning). Stupid Jets. Oh well, at least they got clowned on MNF. ![]() The Bucs, I think, are a li'l better. They played the Falcons well and should have won the game. Freeman just got cocky. Apparently, that corner had that side of the field locked down all game. 4 passes defended, one pick before the game ender, only 2 complete passes for junk yardage, etc. Freeman had to know that. His stats to the other side and the middle were actually good. He chose to take a risk and paid for it. Had he not, they may have won it. I'm glad they didn't but they could have. Anyhoo, yeah, I think they may be a li'l better than the Jets. |

But at least if they get into bowl games with good teams, then they'll either lose or can't whine about not getting respect. So basically they can shut up. If they have 1 loss in the Big East, they'll probably get pitted against the third or fourth best team in the nation. So they can stop their whining. I know. I got home late and turned the game on to check the score, saw the blowout and actually smiled. Smiled at the Pats crushing a team. And now? | #223scypioDec 07, 2010 10:03:38 | Eh, I'm not a huge college football fan, but it seems like they only really need a +1 game. It seems like there's rare more than 4 teams which deserve to be the National Champion. So if you don't want to shake things up too much, I'd add a conditional +1 game. If you want a playoff, I'd just make a 4 team playoff. I think the idea of a 16 team playoff is dumb. |
| #224zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 10:07:34 | I like it. There's a lot of matchup stuff in College that you just don't see in the NFL. Teams actually play the game pretty differently and if you're set up to beat a certain style, you may have trouble with others. Plus the out of conference stuff is really, really limited and a lot of teams don't bother to schedule tough games so you just don't get to see a lot of head to head games. A 16 gamer would be perfect, IMO. It'd certainly be a hell of a lot more fair. |
| #225scypioDec 07, 2010 10:27:16 | I think the problem with 16 teams making the playoffs is that certain teams basically could schedule no one and just make it. Basically if you only need to be in the top 16, wouldn't it be too easy to condend and not make "every game important"? Like I'm not knowledgable on college football, but which teams are legitimately the best this year? I imagine most people would agree its Auburn and Oregon. Do Ok State, Missouri, V-Tech, Nevada, and Alabama all have an argument at being the best team in the country? I think 4, maybe 6 could be okay, but any more just seems to be excessive. Do people really think a team like Oklahoma or Arkansas is the best team in the country? |

Basically if you only need to be in the top 16, wouldn't it be too easy to condend and not make "every game important"? Teams schedule nobodies now and make it. That's why they don't play real non-conference games (aside from a few schools that actually do - this being the primary reason for where Miami sits in the polls - nowhere). They need to play the best teams in each conference against the best teams from the other conferences - and not just the one best team, either. In college ball, one loss pretty much kills your hopes of playing for a championship. Imagine that in the NFL. One loss and you're out. Would that be fair? I don't think so and I don't think it's fair in college, either. Fans from Ok State, Missouri, Va-Tech, Nevada and Alabama can all say their team is the best, we can disagree all we like, too. Thing is, unless you play the head to head games, it's impossible to know. So, for me, more teams in the playoffs makes more sense. A lot of these schools (well, their Athletic Directors) don't want to play a lot of these other schools. Make 'em. EDIT: It's a lot like fighting, IMO. Nobody picked Franky Edgar to beat BJ Penn. Nobody. And he did. They gave Penn a rematch and guess what - nobody picked Edgar to beat Penn. He did. And convincingly, too. There's a saying that sums this up quite well, IMO: That's why they fight the fights. You need to actually do it to determine who the better party actually is. The more teams forced to face off, the better. |
| #228scypioDec 07, 2010 12:09:57 | I agree that teams need to schedule better opponents. But that's a problem with the voters/rankers than the playoffs. People need to agree that losing 1 game against a top school (while playing other top schools) is better than going undefeated without beating anyone. That's why I'm actually a big fan of the SEC which has many strong teams. The problem with 16 team playoffs is that it doesn't reward teams enough for good seasons. The 16th best team in the nation shouldn't have equal footing as the 3rd best team. Also, since its "1 and done", the best teams won't always play in the National Championship game. It also would take a whole month of games which I don't know if its easy or not to add. Honestly, I think with a 4 team playoff (or a +1 game), you should be able to determine which team was the best every year. And the bowls force the best teams from different conferences to play each other. I really think people need to reward teams which schedule tough opponents. But the stupid mentality is that going undefeated is always the best. Losing but having quality wins should be considered better than going undefeated without beating top flight teams. |
| #229zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 13:05:46 | The thing is, the 16th place team won't have equal footing. They'll be bracketed last and have to face the first ranked team. So, it still matters where you finish. It's possible that the best team could lose its first playoff game and then not be able to continue, sure. Thing is, at least they'd have had a chance to try and prove it. With the BCS, you could be the best team and never have a shot at proving it cuz you could be left out of the championship game. And you could have had no chance of ever making it to that game, too. With the playoff, an undefeated or one loss team will qualify and then have a chance to prove if they really are the best. We've already had a National Champion crowned by the game and another annointed by the system itself. A playoff could kill that crap. |
| #230scypioDec 07, 2010 13:16:56 | TCU gets to play a crappy PAC-10 team? So if they win, they'll be whining again. Why didn't they just schedule them against a SEC or Big 12 team? Or was that PAC-10 team the "best"? Anyway, I can see your argument, but it seems excessive since most people typically can agree between 4 teams as the best (often times its 2 or 3). Also, it seems like with 16 teams, you'd get more of a situation where the regular season matters less. I know its nowhere the same level, but I hate the situation in the NBA and NHL where basically any team that's half decent (plus some not half-decent teams) make the playoffs. Its like the entire regular season is just for seeding. If you have 16 teams make the BCS playoffs, then that's over half of the ranked teams in the country. I imagine some big conference teams with multiple losses could make it in so it kind of makes each game less important. But in all honestly, I don't really care that much about NCAA sports. |
| #231zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 13:32:26 | I ****ed up the TCU thing. They're playing in place of the Pac10 team. My bad. If Wisconsin was selected for the Nat Champ game and Oregon was selected for the Rose Bowl, though, TCU would be playing a Pac10 opponent in a Pac10 stadium. The whole 25 ranked teams thing is misleading. There's like 117 or more NCAA football teams. There's 32 NFL teams. It just doesn't make sense, IMO, to have a playoff with less teams than what the NFL uses. Anyhoo, it's all moot anyway cuz the BCS makes too much money as is. Oh, I heard the MLB is gonna expand the playoffs again. A hundred some games and they won't really mean jack. I can understand not wanting a pointless situation like the NBA and soon to be MLB but they don't have anywhere near the amount of teams NCAA football does. I just think it's a different enough animal to warrant it. |

Basically if you only need to be in the top 16, wouldn't it be too easy to condend and not make "every game important"? I've always hated the scheduling of nobodies, but we need it, and here's why: Boise State, Utah, TCU, and a handful of other sometimes notable teams were all NOBODIES. Do you think anyone would give a damn about Boise State if they hadn't knocked off Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl? No, never in a million years. This is why teams like LSU (my college) bother playing Tulane, McNeese St., Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Tech. On the one hand, we get essensially a week off, where as they get a chance to play a worthwhile team, earn a little money for making the trip, and, if they get a win, they get the national spotlight for a week or two (or in the case of a team like Appalacian State, the next 100 years or so) |
| #233zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 13:42:11 | They're cupcakes added to pad the schedule with wins and/or tune up games before real games. The fact that they have to pay these small schools to do it is just a bonus for the li'l guys. It allows BCS apologists to tout the virtues of the system and to call its revenue 'sharing' fair cuz, see, the li'l guy gets money, too. You know, to be embarrassed on national television while a major program shows off for the pollsters. |

Despite the fact the Big East is a bunch of semi-crap schools, TCU will have a hard time travelling that far for road games. |
| #235zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 14:07:15 | Yep, they played nobody alright. The Big East really isn't much of an improvement, though, IMO. We'll see what happens I guess. |
| #236scypioDec 07, 2010 14:16:53 | The 117 (or more) NCAA teams is deceptive because there aren't very many of those who are good. Parity doesn't exist in the NCAA like it does in professional sports. And if there are 25 ranked teams (meaning good enough to be ranked as top teams), more than half of those shouldn't get a shot at winning the championship. But that's just my opinion. I'm pretty exclusive about playoffs. Regarding the MLB addition of playoff teams. Its yet to be unveiled, but the idea is that they'll add one additional wildcard team in each league. That'll up the total playoff teams from each league to 5 (10 total teams). It'll still be much less than the other major sports (raw number and percentage). MLB - 10 out of 30 teams or 33.3% NFL - 12 out of 32 teams or 37.5% NHL - 16 out of 30 teams or 53.3% NBA - 16 out of 30 teams or 53.3% And the rumor is that the two wildcard teams will play each other in a best of 3 weekend series before playing the top seed. This was designed to further punish wildcard teams and further reward the top seed. I actually think it'll make the regular season more important since wildcard teams will be at a massive disadvantage. But this is all speculation until they actually releas how they'll handle the playoff expansion. I think it'll be better if they use a similar system. |
| #237zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 14:27:27 | I thought that it would make the regular season - especially end of season races - less important because one more team will get a shot at the playoffs instead of having it come down to the wire in the regular season for that last spot. I don't really care, though, cuz I don't follow baseball anymore and they play way, way too many games. ![]() So do you think we'll see a playoff team in the NFL with a losing record this year? |
| #238ADHadhDec 07, 2010 14:38:09 | (why am I even checking this thread? shouldn't have done in the first place) |
| #239scypioDec 07, 2010 14:39:56 | I actually thought we would have, but it looks like the Chiefs are going to protect the AFC West and the Rams look decent enough to have a winning record. I haven't really looked at the schedule, but I think it'll be okay. 3 or 4 weeks ago, it was looking bad! |
| #240zombie_babiesDec 07, 2010 15:04:26 | I agree. No team with a losing or even record should go to the playoffs, IMO. Well, so long as there's a team with a better record that could go, that is. I'd hate to see a 10 win team get jobbed for some loser. That's not good for the sport, IMO. |
| #241Cpt_MichaDec 16, 2010 22:51:10 | Train wreck of train wrecks Can'ts vs Cardinals. My money is on the Cards. |
| #242zombie_babiesDec 17, 2010 13:15:11 | Don't forget the Browns vs the Bungles for the Battle of Ohwhogivesa****. ![]() |
| #243Robin_HoodlumDec 19, 2010 19:20:35 | STOOPID STEELERS![]() |
| #244Cpt_MichaDec 19, 2010 22:31:22 | wow.. the cardinals really do go out of their way to show just how much of a joke the nfc west is don't they? Congrats Arizona... you remind me that as horrible as the Can'ts are this year. They are still better than the NFC West. |
| #245SomeoneDec 20, 2010 0:21:28 | Sorry, I must have dozed off there in the fourth- what do you mean, four touchdowns by the Eagles? |
| #246zombie_babiesDec 20, 2010 10:25:16 | Yeah, the world needs to get off Tom Brady's jock and give Vick the MVP. Just amazing stuff. Granted it was the Giants and they do tend to implode, but that was a lotta points in a hurry. And he accounted for, what, 340 yards or so (rushing/passing) and 4 TDs (3 pass, 1 rush)? Dood is the real friggin' deal. Oh, and Browns suck. |
| #247zombie_babiesDec 23, 2010 13:12:33 | What. The. ****. So Pryor, Posey, Herron and a couple other guys got suspended for the first 5 games next season (they can still play in the Sugar Bowl) for selling some stuff like Big 10 Champ rings and the like. Apparently, they also traded autographs for tatoos. Yeah, pretty stupid. Thing is, Cam Newton got suspended for about 2 hours because his dad was shopping him to schools for the requested sum of about $180,000. A pay for play thing. Yep, he got 2 hours. These kids get 5 days - not for accepting huge sums of cash, mind, but for selling their own personal property. Yeah, **** the NCAA. And the Sugar Bowl eligiblity? Know why that's happenin'? Cuz nobody would watch the game if they were out and that game makes millions and millions and millions of dollars, that's why. They set these suspensions because of money and then set the start in order to make sure they can make theirs. **** this ****. |
| #248Cpt_MichaDec 25, 2010 22:00:31 | .... we don't have a football team. That's all. |
| #249Robin_HoodlumDec 26, 2010 8:07:25 | .... we don't have a football team. I like you Cap'n, so I won't rub it in too bad.... Steelers lookin' good! |
| #250Cpt_MichaDec 26, 2010 16:14:57 | I'm just glad you guys didn't get hurt on the can'ts. |
| #251Robin_HoodlumDec 27, 2010 8:20:29 | My Fantasy Teams update I have 3 teams. All 3 made it to the playoffs. 2 got beat in the playoffs. My final team ended up winning the Super Bowl! I should start doing this for money! |

| #255zombie_babiesDec 28, 2010 9:20:52 | Browns suck. Seems like Colt's been takin' way, way too much advice from Jake. |
| #256Robin_HoodlumDec 28, 2010 16:21:10 | Browns suck. Good. Cuz the Steelers play them next... |
| #257Robin_HoodlumDec 28, 2010 21:58:12 | Fantasy update: Lost in the playoffs with 2 of my teams... But I won the Super Bowl with my 3rd. Not too bad... |
| #258Cpt_MichaDec 30, 2010 12:54:35 | At least I can say the can'ts weren't the worst team in football. (anyone they beat is. I'm sorry) |
| #259zombie_babiesDec 30, 2010 13:08:18 | Heh, that means the Browns are the real defending champs! Whoo-hoo! I'ma gonna have me a parade! ![]() |
| #260IdolisDec 30, 2010 14:21:38 | The Vikings were terribad this year but the game on Tuesday was fun to watch. Things we need to do with draft: 1) Improve the Oline. It's true Favre looked old this year but he also didn't have the protection that he had last year. 2) Improve the defensive line but mostly need help in the secondary. 3) Use free agency to get a veteran QB to compete with Joe "Spiderman" Webb for the starting position. Speaking of Webb, the kid gots skillz. With experience he could be one hell of a quarterback, at the very least we know he's better than Tavaris Jackson. |
| #261zombie_babiesDec 30, 2010 14:24:46 | That was not a good game! (sez the Eagles fan) ![]() |
| #262Cpt_MichaDec 30, 2010 14:28:09 | Old as Favre looked, he'd still be the best QB Carolina would ever have, if he came over here. I'd take a Favre that needs a walker to get around, before I'd even consider Ole' Jimmy boy as a bench warmer. |
| #263IdolisDec 30, 2010 14:28:13 | Lol, I know the Eagles didn't show up but still I had fun. LOL!!! |
| #264zombie_babiesDec 30, 2010 14:30:16 | Old as Favre looked, he'd still be the best QB Carolina would ever have, if he came over here. Dood, I just played some Madden the other day and picked the Cats as my foe. Apparently Moore is one awesome mutha QB. ![]() Lol, You suck! ![]() |
| #265IdolisDec 30, 2010 14:41:14 | Old as Favre looked, he'd still be the best QB Carolina would ever have, if he came over here. The problem with the Vikings keeping Favre is we need to overhaul the o-line and that necessitates that he show up for training camp and as beat up as he is I just don't see that happening. If some other team takes him (if he decides to comeback) then I'm sure he could play if he's protected. That's all one big IF though, because there really isn't any reason to comeback other than a Superbowl. His streak is over which was the one record that wasn't set till this year. If he plays for another team, I'm sure they'll have to be contenders or he won't even talk to them and all the "contenders" already have franchise QB's. I just don't see him coming back but if he does then I wish him luck. |
| #266Cpt_MichaDec 30, 2010 14:55:02 | ZB: Moore is an awesome QB... unfortunately he has One person to throw to. And we had a coach this year that was more of a couchwarmer than coach. With as bad as the cats have played this year my guess is they didn't actually train plays at camp. General conditioning sure but I don't think there was actual training going on. (which is utterly unexcusable with Rookies which is what that ****** stuck us with) If Moore gets to stay (and he got beat up alot this year too.... which really hurt his performance. Kind of hard to actually play when your protection is non existent, you have no one worth throwing to, and your coach didn't come up with any kind of plays to practice with) and I hope he does, we better totally rebuild the damn team. This is a sorry bunch of losers we have right now with a loser of a coach. (and I hope we can the GM too while we are at it) Keep, Kasey, Smith, Gamble, Beason, the Double Trouble, and Moore. Fire Everyone Else ASAP. Idolis; I think we could see him next year. If the Vikes build around him, and force him to show up for practice. I think Favre would even do it, because he really does want One More Ring. |
| #267zombie_babiesDec 30, 2010 14:58:26 | The problem with the Vikings keeping Favre is we need to overhaul the o-line and that necessitates that he show up for training camp and as beat up as he is I just don't see that happening. Allegedly he's said he's done. And that's something he's never, ever, ever done before. ![]() ZB: Moore is an awesome QB... unfortunately he has One person to throw to. And we had a coach this year that was more of a couchwarmer than coach. With as bad as the cats have played this year my guess is they didn't actually train plays at camp. Well that explains why he was carvin' my ass up worse than anybody else I played. Thank god I was playin' Green Bay and the game didn't know (since I'm playin' exhibition mode to practice) that Grant was hurt. Heh. |
| #268Cpt_MichaDec 30, 2010 15:02:38 | Are they using the 09 Cats? (if so that explains alot really... because once we told Jake The Shake to Gohomme we went on a Winning streak against all the "best" teams last year) And if they are using the 09 cats maybe I should pick up madden myself..... |
| #269IdolisDec 30, 2010 15:11:17 | Micha, |

I have no idea. It's Madden11 so I doubt it. I think it's more that the game was built on expectations and then reality happend and makes it look sorta silly. Heh. |
| #271LadyNeferRaDec 30, 2010 23:18:15 | While I live for the playoffs, drool over the playoffs, yell & scream before, during and after the playoffs, it makes me just a little sad to see the regular season end. ![]() Because after that big Super Sunday rush wears off, its just months and months of no NFL, and only baseball to keep you company. So here's to Week 17. It's been a weird, wild season. |

| #274Cpt_MichaDec 31, 2010 8:40:47 | Honestly I am pulling for the Steelers at this point. |
| #275zombie_babiesDec 31, 2010 8:51:22 | AFC: Steelers. NFC: Packers, Eagles or Falcons. In the NFC I'd be ok with just about anybody but the Saints and Giants, to be honest. What I think is gonna happen: Pats and Ain'ts. Pats win. I so, so hope I'm totally wrong. |
