| #1CrackerjakeJan 10, 2009 2:44:22 | When I was rolling up my ranger, I think I ended up having 16 skill points to spend. I put them in my skills as wisely as I could. Then the DM upped our levels to 5 and I had MORE skill points. Well, I put them in accordance with how I did them before. Then I noticed something ridiculous. With my stat modifier, my swim was my highest skill at the 11th rank XD So my Ranger's basically Michael Phelps with a longsword What about you guys? Any ridiculous ranks in ridiculous skills? |
| #2ocarina_guyJan 10, 2009 2:54:14 | Yeah. Built a character once with what worked out to a +12 bonus to move silently at 4th level--without skill ranks or enhancements to Dex. He had the dark template and 18 Dex, though, so that's understandable. |
| #3oxybeJan 10, 2009 10:43:30 | turning the "way back" machine a year or two on the old Char OP boards and you'll probably find a +212 bluff check 3.5 character me and a few other posters did (though that's a VERY munchkin'ed character in the realm of theoretical optimization). however, in normal games? a standard array dwarf blacksmith with 15 int can have a +15 bonus at level 1: he should be able to make all but the most exotic weapons without problem, and even then, he'll only fail those on a 1 or two 4 ranks 3 skill focus 2 int 2 mwk tools 2 aid other by assistant 2 racial at level 4 he'll have a +19 and can automatically crank out mwk weapons. 7 ranks 3 skill focus 3 int 2 mwk tools 2 aid other by assistant 2 racial nothing crazy just a dwarf, his apprentice and a forge. most D&D characters should be able to get similar bonuses without problems, especially since they have access to magic |
| #4Mad_JackJan 11, 2009 0:48:03 | A 3.5 human rogue with an 18 Int eventually gathers an absolutely ridiculous skill list simply from the amount of points they get, not to mention the +4 to certain skills from the 18 Int... The book lists a DC of 30 to find a well-hidden secret door - With a total of +12 on my search skill at 5th level, I could find one on an 18-20. Hell, by 5th level I think I had a total modifier of +10 or more in at least a dozen skills, and had viable levels in cross-class skills like heal and spellcraft. |
