#1 Mad_Jack Jul 08, 2012 19:57:49	Ernest Borgnine dead at 95...  Like a lot of people I could have sworn he was already dead. But apparently, he'd kept working up until fairly recently, including some voice work on Spongebob.    Borgnine had a ridiculously long body of work, once being quoted in 1973 as saying, "I don't care whether a role is 10 minutes long or two hours... And I don't care whether my name is up there on top, either. Matter of fact, I'd rather have someone else get top billing; then if the picture bombs, he gets the blame, not me." In 1955 he won the Best Actor Oscar for playing against type in the comedy film Marty, and later continued to show great comedy skills in the tv series McHale'sNavy. Borgnine, however, got his start in cinema being typecast as tough bad guys. Both before and after his Oscar win he starred in such films as Bad Day At Black Rock, Johnny Guitar, The Dirty Dozen, The Wild Bunch and From Here To Eternity, where he played the guy who got to beat Frank Sinatra to death.  Borgnine, himself a Navy vet, was probably most widely known for his role in the tv series McHale's Navy, which ran from 1962 to '66. Later movie roles included parts in The Poseidon Adventure, Ice Station Zebra, Disney's The Black Hole, Convoy and Escape From New York. He also starred as a helicopter mechanic in the Airwolf tv series.  Most recently, he was known for his voice work as the character of Mermaid Man on the Spongebob Squarepants cartoon.  I always liked him.
