| #1RustmonsterApr 24, 2009 11:11:19 | Hello all. I have always wanted a copy of RISK, the boardgame about making armies run up to other countries and kick their asses until they give you the land deed. However, I am at a loss for which one to choose! I'm strapped for cash, and so can only buy one. My options are normal RISK, with soldiers and cavelry and cannons, nothing special, but classic. Or I can get the future type one, where you can go to the moon or something. So my question is, to all those who are familiar with RISK, what are the differences between the versions? And which would you recommend? |

It's RISK, but with many more options and factors, like subversive armies and Orbital Bombing to take out armies without a fight (perfect for the Australia Dilemma). If you'd prefer something simpler, normal RISK is pretty good, though. No idea about futuristic RISK, but I'd assume it's just a refluffing with some new win conditions (and maybe a variant of Orbital Bombing). |

| #4stompie5Apr 24, 2009 11:21:01 | I've only ever played the Classic Risk, but I heard the future one was pretty good too. If you're trying to save money, I would say just get the cheapest one. |

Hmm, sounds kinda good, but I don't know if I could find it. I don't have any real good game stores near my house, and I have to walk anywhere I would want to go. That's kinda why I've narrowed it to those two RISKs, because I know they are near my house. The farthest I can go is a Wal-Mart, but if possible, screw that. |
| #6jamfalcon_the_gnomeApr 24, 2009 11:34:00 | I've played two versions, classic risk and one that I think if modern, all the pieces are little stars. I prefer classic, the new one had a whole bunch of rules that just made in confusing (But I still won :D) |
| #7Reg06Apr 24, 2009 13:17:36 | Risk 2210 is pretty fun, if just for the moon territories. It won't let you down, and if you hate the extra rules (there aren't many, and they don't unRISK it) you can play with just the normal rules. I still love the classic though, and would own both if possible. If you are into exploring other games, Attack! and Axis and Allies are both -very- good WW2 games that are similar to Risk. |
| #8RustmonsterApr 24, 2009 13:33:51 | Well, I checked the old universal hivemind (Wikipedia), and after reading about future RISK, it sounds the best choice, if only that I can also play original RISK with it if I want. But thanks for all the comments, guys! |
| #9terronusApr 24, 2009 15:38:04 | Am I the only one who goes into a game of RISK thinking, "Ok... I won't get mad, it's just a game, stay cool..." and then eight hours later getting PO'ed when someone steals Australia and wins?! Darn you, Australia, and your strategic value! |
| #10ArmisaelApr 24, 2009 15:43:31 | Am I the only one who goes into a game of RISK thinking, "Ok... I won't get mad, it's just a game, stay cool..." and then eight hours later getting PO'ed when someone steals Australia and wins?! Use Orbital Bombardment rules. For six armies, you get a one-shot move that destroys three armies, no questions asked. For every territory after the first that the OB has to go through to get a territory, you deal one less army of damage, though, so you have to deploy the OB next to Australia. |
| #11pigknightApr 24, 2009 16:44:01 | Get Lord of the Rings RISK. Or Edition War RISK (:P). |
| #12RustmonsterApr 24, 2009 16:47:05 | Get Lord of the Rings RISK. Meh, I'm not to into LotR. Only really liked The Hobbit. Fell asleep after chapter one of Fellowship. Couldn't stomach to watch the movies. Or Edition War RISK. I doubt that Hasbro would make that for us. :P |
| #13pigknightApr 24, 2009 16:51:50 | I'm campaigning for making the next edition war use RISK-like rules. |
| #14terronusApr 24, 2009 16:57:37 | Meh, I'm not to into LotR. Only really liked The Hobbit. Fell asleep after chapter one of Fellowship. Couldn't stomach to watch the movies. Yikes! You ought to watch the Fellowship, if nothing else. Everything you might dislike about Tolkien is not present in the films. They have their flaws, of course, but it sounds like you won't test the waters for all the wrong reasons. |
| #15ciaranApr 24, 2009 17:32:14 | I played Risk many tmes as a kid... and never liked it. I haven't played many games like it, but I always like Axis & Allies. |
| #16dirtyfrankApr 24, 2009 23:36:32 | Get the one with hookers! And blackjack! Is there really a risk version with these things? |
| #17baneofelvesApr 24, 2009 23:38:55 | Is there really a risk version with these things? No, KGM is just making a Futurama reference |
| #18dirtyfrankApr 24, 2009 23:41:26 | Then she is a very bad person. She was getting my hopes up. :raincloud |
