I see this phenomenon with a lot of D&D players and other geeks where they refuse to listen to or admit that they like any music that's actually popular just because it's popular.
Conversely, some people just plain hate it because they think it's horrible.

I have heard this song (the original) - in all honesty - likely well over 50 times. Plenty to develop an opinion, no? See, the bar I frequent plays top 40 on the weekends (when I go) after 2230. So I hear all sorts of this nonsense. This isn't something I simply dismissed because of the artist or the initial sound or the genre or whatever, it's something I've decided I really dislike because, after hearing it once and then over and again, I actually dislike it. So yeah, haters gonna hate when it's stuff they legitimately hate due to legitimate reasons arrived at after giving the song a more than reasonable chance to sway their opinion - 'involuntary' (in quotes cuz I coulda just left) or not.

You're assuming those of us who don't like it care if it's popular? I hate to break it to you, but there are people in the world who can make up their own minds without concern for what others think. Strangely "geeks" are among those people with minds of their own.
Would you like to know why I don't like "Like a G6"? It's a song glorifying getting drunk to the point of stupidity. It talks about drinking and driving like it's not just okay, but cool. The entire message of the song is repugnant to me. It's popularity, or lack thereof, means nothing to me beyond how often I have to change the radio station to avoid it.
If I thought that anybody needed to be called out on it, then I would have called them out on it.

I personally like the song a lot but only because I'm not too big on lyrics. I could see why people wouldn't like it. The lyrics aren't that great, but I like the beat and the rhyming scheme in the chorus. I also think that Dev's voice has a very interesting quality to it. I could do without Far East Movement in general, though.
I'm not assuming anything. What I said doesn't necessarily apply to everybody. I'm just saying that it applies to a lot of people. If you don't think that you're one of them, then you have no reason to be so defensive about it. I'm not saying anything about anybody in particular. I'm just saying. ^_^

No worries. It just happens to be a topic that comes up a lot when I discuss music, and as this is a topic about popular music on a D&D forum, it seemed like something to throw out there. Apologies to anybody that thought I was referring to them specifically.

I'm just not a fan of the genre in general. To me, it seems like it's a competition between the groups to see who can say the least amount of words the most times in one song and that, to me, is just plain terrible. If you like the music, listen to tech. That's where most of it is drawn from. So, that's what I do. If I wanna hear a good bass line, I'll listen to drum 'n' bass. ;)
Oh yeah, and none of 'em sing anymore. They just autotune the **** out of themselves basically making their voice an artificial instrument rather than a natural one. That's ... well, it's just a shame is what it is.

Me neither, I'm either playing mp3's or listening to NPR. These days I don't even have patience for channels that play music I like.

That's basically my strategy as well. I've only heard it at parties and a few times on a school run bus (some of the drivers listen to that junk). And a couple times in the physics student hang out room cuz one of the physics majors is kinda (Content removed) in that he listens to that kind of music and dances to it....solo...
The second one definitely has more skill in the rap department, and the rhymes are clever, but the image presented seemed a little strange. Keystone in your cereal? That is straight-up alcoholic frat-boy behavior.
