#1 pluisjen Jun 29, 2011 8:35:28	So I was just curious, after hearing once again how tall dem Dutchies apparently are, how tall people here are and whether or not they consider themselves tall. I'm 1m86, which makes me 6'1" and I don't consider myself tall at all...
#2 pluisjen Jun 29, 2011 9:40:01	In Canada? Or worldwide? Locally speaking I'm not very tall, as far as I've noticed. Most of my friends only differ an inch tops in either direction. Except for a few, I do know a guy who is about 6'7" and he makes me feel short

#4 Mad_Jack Jun 29, 2011 18:50:55	In larger, more ethnically-diverse countries like the US, it's really hard to determine a percieved "average" height to decide whether or not you're "tall". (As opposed to an actual measured average height...) Going solely from my own experience and perceptions, of course, as a middleclass caucasian male...    For women being over 5 feet 7 inches is generally considered "tall" (with something like being over 5 feet 11 inches being sort of the "definitive" height for serious "tallness"), whereas for men it seems to be that people over 5 feet 10 inches could be considered to be "tall", while anything over 6 feet or 6 feet 1 inch is the "definitive" point of "tallness" - although it seems to me, at least, to be a bit more subjective concerning men since being "tall" seems to be more often determined within the context of the company they're presently in... For example, I'm about a quarter inch short of 6 feet, which is often seen as "tall" in mixed company, but when amongst a group of all men I'm generally viewed as being of average height. (I personally haven't noticed quite as much variance with how often women are considered "tall" depending on whose company they're in, but that may just be my own perceptions.)

#8 zombie_babies Jun 30, 2011 12:25:17	I'm about 5'10".  I usually feel about average in height.  If I'm standin' next to my 5'4" and 5'5" friends, I feel tall.  If I'm next to my 6'5" friend, I feel like a friggin' midget.  At least I'm stronger than he is, heh.

This.  I come from a family of tall men and (generally) short women.  My dad is my shortest male relative (that I see fairly regularly) at 5' 9".  My grandfather was 6' 6" (which, while being shot at in France, was DEFINITELY a hindrance!), while my grandmother barely topped 5'.
#11 LadyNeferRa Jul 01, 2011 14:18:37	I'm 5'1", not tall.  In fact, I am the cut off point for "small".  People noticeably shorter than me usually qualify as "tiny".

Being skinny as a rake apparently makes me look taller.  I sort of have the opposite problem - I'm built like a dwarf or grizzly bear, and I tend to slouch a bit, so people often think I'm shorter than I am, at least until they stand next to me and I straighten up.
#14 oxybe Jul 02, 2011 15:09:13	photo ID says i'm 176cm, so about 5'7". most of my family is pretty small. i'm the second highest person in my family, with my younger brother is about an inch taller then me. like Jack, i'm built like a dwarf or grizzly. unfortunately straitening up doesn't do much to help me.

#16 shiningwolf88 Jul 03, 2011 17:45:07	I'm 5'11", and depending on the side of the family I'm either a giant or a midget. Dad's irish side, only my brother tops me at 6' and most of the males are 3+ inches shorter than me. Mom's german relatives clock in around 6'5" on average.
