Hey now, lay off on the Expendables bashin', k? I happened to see it and thought it was quite good. So ... uhh ... there.
I'm not bashing, jsut trying to get more folks to wait and see it after they see Scott Pilgrim.

It looks like a good movie, but it doesn't look good enough for me to go see in a theather. It's definitely on my to rent list though.
My oldest boy, who's 12, and I go to the theater about once a year... and it's usually a super-hero or adventure movie.
I haven't seen either of the movies you boys are talkin' about.
if you can't watch the movie, read the series. it's a great story told in a format you really wouldn't expect. effectively a "coming of age" sort of story except the protagonist is already an adult and a kinda-jerky-nice-guy and happens to be someone most people in their 18-24s can actually relate with.
also: superhuman vegans, sex bob-ombs and ninja dads.
I thought it was a great movie. While some of the randomly placed absurdities were... randomly placed and absurd, the characters were pretty believable, the interactions didn't seem forced, and the fight scenes (there were six "fight scenes" all together) weren't too long as to get boring or too similar to get monotonous.
Definitely going to grab it when it's out on DVD. And also (slowly) grabbing the comics (two volumes down, four to go!)
I've yet to see the Expendables. BTW., the translators proved their creativity again: they called the movie Niezniszczalni which means... "The Indestructibles"

As far as Scotty goes, I thought he didn't know. Wait, different movie. Yeah, if my pals wanna check it out, I may go. I don't do the movie theater thing often and since I just did, I'm kinda meh about the prospect of doing it again. However, with seeing the opinions ya'all have on it, I think it may be worth it.
For non-Torontonians, a little info on some of the key locations in the film.
Pizza Pizza is a province-wide chain of Pizza restaurants. The pizza is rally bad, but it is kind of a late-night post-bar tradition. The one Scott and friends go to is at 588 Bloor St. West (at Bathurst).
Sonic Boom, the music store they frequent, is a huge indie music shop at 512 Bloor St. West. It is next door to the Bloor Cinema, the only great rep cinema left in town. Edgar Wright, director of Scott Pilgrim, hosted a "Space-a-thon" in February 2009 where we watched the entire two series of Spaced in one go. We met him and talked for a while - really nice guy.
Honest Ed's is a hard-to-describe department store. It features more prominently in the comics, but in the film we really only get to see the garish flashing signage viewed in several scence. It is across the street from Pizza Pizza at the corner of Bloor St. West and Bathurst.
Lee's Palace - sigte of the Clash at Demonhead show and Bass Battle, is a great live concert club at 529 Bloor St. West, pretty much across teh street from Sonic Boom and the Bloor Cinema.
Casa Loma is a Toronto landmark. Dozens upon dozens of movies and tv shows have been filme there (the most notable probably being X Men) but rarely before has it starred as itself.
Club Rockit, site of the batlte with Ex #1, is a now-defunct club, recenlty resurrected as Goodhandy's a "self-proclaimed pansexual club catering to the transsexual, gay and fetish crowds".
Oh and by the way, the Honest Ed's demented deer clock from the Scott Pilgrim comic is real…
Unfortunatly it´s "Expected: januari 2011" so I might have to download it, or hope they hurry up and bring it in theaters here, but I'll want to see this one... thanks for bringing it to my attention

Can't think of anything particulalry objectionable. Some of it might be over a 12 year old's head, but that's about it.

Whether or not a kid will enjoy a film is no indication for whether or not the kid's parents will think it's appropriate for the kid.
In a similar vein, just because it's fine with parent X for kid of parent X to see movie Y, doesn't mean it's with parent Z for kid of parent Z to see movie Y.

But any way, I liked the music so much I just had to go out and buy the soundtrack. I havnt bought a soundtrack in years and years. I think the last one I got was George Harrisons song from Time Bandits, but then I didnt get the whole soundtrack, just that one song, "Dream Away" I believe was the name.

but im really fond of Garbage Truck as well, its got a definite raw garage band sorta vibe to it, which i Like.
