#1 ellorin Nov 25, 2011 9:42:24	I am definitely on sci-fi mode once again. During the last few months I finished the Revelation Space trilogy by Alastair Reynolds(I can't recommend it highly enough), Asimov's Foundation, Robert Zelazny's Lord of Light and I am currently reading the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons again. It has been years and I had forgotten how good the original Hyperion is. Not that I didn't love the rest of the series, but I consider Hyperion to be on a higher level than them. After that...no idea. Any recommendations?

#4 Ragnar_Lodbrok Nov 25, 2011 12:53:48	I kinda like some of SM Stirling's stuff. It's mostly alternate history stuff, so it may or may not be what you're looking for, but I consider it rather well done.
#5 grehnhewe Nov 25, 2011 13:13:34	I just read China Mieville's first sci-novel Embassytown, I liked it. How easy is it to read? I sometimes have trouble with Miéville's word play and neologisms and that novel is all about words. I would have to say I am not really sure, but I do know what you are talking about. I took me a while to get used to his writing style, and I may have gotten used to it. I did like the book though, and it is very much about language. I would not mind if he wrote another one in that setting. I would have to say my two favourites by him are Perdido Street Station and Kraken.
#6 zombie_babies Nov 25, 2011 14:59:02	I don't do Sci Fi but I can recommend two (or more) works: I'll second RM's nod to Phillip K [Rooster] as far as Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep goes. Really good and fun book. I also always go to Vonnegut when people ask about Sci Fi (cuz he's about all I've read) and Cat's Cradle is really good. Truth be told, Vonnegut wrote a few novels that fall into the Sci Fi category and I enjoyed all of them.
#7 Astromath Nov 26, 2011 10:56:21	Any of the Heinlein books. Alan Dean Foster is pretty good too. The Well World series (there's even an rpg). Piers Anthony (sci-fi or fantasy). Poul Anderson. Just a small portion of my library.

I kinda like some of SM Stirling's stuff. It's mostly alternate history stuff, so it may or may not be what you're looking for, but I consider it rather well done.
