| #2zombie_babiesSep 21, 2011 14:35:58 | REM? Who cares. Not ... not terribly entertaining, IMO. |
| #3KillerGMSep 22, 2011 19:10:06 | They were OK musically, but they were very influential in the 80s/90s. Lots of bands owe their attention/style/fame/etc to REM. I liked a few of their songs, but (like a lot of bands from that era), I thought they took themselves too seriously and came off as pretentious more often than not. It's cool that they're all amicable, though. Better than a bunch of not-quite-as-famous guys fighting it out when nobody but hardcore fans really cares. ![]() Here's an interesting article on REM, and their influence. |
| #4Cpt_MichaSep 22, 2011 19:33:49 | I like some of REM's stuff. ![]() I didn't realize they were still a band till recently. It's cool that they decided to hang it up as friends and not well implode. |
| #5Crimson_ConcertoSep 22, 2011 20:27:56 | Who's REM? +1 |
| #6LFKSep 22, 2011 23:26:58 | I'm not going to say that I'm sad to hear it, because frankly I wasn't aware that they were still active figuring that they'd quietly drifted into permanent hiatus. Still, massively influential band. I've met Michael Stipe once at a press event, really chill guy. I have trouble calling them pretentious because Stipe really just is that ernest. |

Oh, I wasn't calling them pretentious, just that their music came off that way, at times (especially as they got older). But having been reminded of their songs over the years, they had some good songs: The One I Love, Orange Crush, It's The End of The World As We Know It, Man On the Moon, Losing My Religion ... Just a lot of good songs, IMO. |
