I don't think that it is a sensical phobia, and I have no idea how I came to have it, but I have claustrophobia and other fears that feed into the same concept but aren't quite the same. I freak out when I am in a space that I think I can't get out of, including tight clothing. I also freak out when the air is too thick. I think both of these feed into a phobia about not being able to breathe.

The funny thing is that I don't easily get freaked out by being surrounded by people. Although if someone is leaning over my shoulder it tends to bother me. But I do just fine in the mosh pit at Warped Tour.

I do make a lot of typos because Firefox doesn't have a grammar check. The funny thing is that the typos usually allow for puns and innuendos that I just roll with. Half the time my typos seem to turn into running jokes.

There's nothing silly about a fear of spiders - - I hate those little buggers!

I also have an intense fear of falling - - I can handle heights if I'm in a plane or standing somewhere sturdy, but the thought of climbing a ladder paralyzes me - -

Well, I'm terrified of spiders, though there's a long, youthful story behind that one. I'm also terrified of heights, I don't do well on them. I went up the CN Tower once to prove to everyone I could, cried, came down and vowed never to do it again. I also fear driving. Not, like if someone else is driving, but myself driving. I don't trust myself, or want the responsibility that comes with it. I seize up every time someone tries to force me into the drivers side. I don't even have a license or ever taken a test. I just can't do it.

Those are the Big Three anyway.

Sort of, unless he transforms into a normal-sized wolf spider. Then someone could just step on him. If he transformed into a big wolf spider, he'd be better off. I saw a freakin' huge wolf spider one time when I was doing water testing in high school. My whole class was at a stream learning how to catch macroinvertebrates. One of the groups caught a wolf spider that was about 6 inches across. That thing was freaky. They started calling it the spirit of the river. :D

Being up high and looking up. Looking down doesn't bother me, but if I look shoulder-height or higher, I get weak in the knees. Note that I've been rock climbing, hiked mountains, climbed trees, etc. and this doesn't bother me. The stability of the structure has a lot to do with it. Example: The St. Simon's Lighthouse doesn't bother me. The Tybee one freaks me out due to the sheet metal scaffolding.

I actually have something which, while not being a phobia, is pretty strange: the thought of an animal's death makes me sick. This weird because I tend towards pragmatism, eat meat all the time, and care little for dead people. I've never done it, of course, and hope I never will, but the thought of killing a person seems quite natural to me under certain circumstances. But killing an animal is something just thinking about makes me physically unwell.

It makes me sick to my stomach when people mistreat animals, so I can understand what you mean. To me, it's the thought that the animal is helpless and reliant on a person, but the person mistreats it anyway.

I'm so glad to hear this. Most people where I am don't understand. I could do away with someone without a look back, but I can't stand seeing an animal hurt, let alone dealing with the death of one.

There was a wolf spider in my house once. I was going to let it go, but my sister saw it and freaked so my mom told me to step on it. I didn't have a choice. I tried to catch it in my hand, but it was too quick and my stupid sister was screaming and crying and so I stepped on it.

I felt it's little carapace crunch under my boot, and I felt so bad I vomited. I'm getting sick just thinking about it. It was years ago, but I can still feel the crushing of it's body, and hear it in my head.

Thankfully, I have never been asked to kill a spider, or anything else, again.

There's no sense in being scared of animals. Learn about them and garner understanding and respect for those that can harm you. Once understanding is achieved, fear is unnecessary.

As far as vacuum cleaners though, I got nothin'.

I'm afraid of being in a cave, standing over a "bottomless pit" in the dark. Didn't even know I had a real phobia till I was in a cave, standing on a decrypt metal grate, standing over a water filled unknown depth pit, and then they cut the lights off to give people an idea of just how pitch black an unlit cave is. I had this striking visual of the grate falling out from under me. Yeah. That spooked me real good.

By the way you've not seen pitch black till you have been in an unlit cavern system. There is no light. Period. Your eyes can adjust all they want they will not see a damned thing. You can't even see your hand if it were poking your eye.

As for other things... its so pathetic seeming... I'm a fairly good sized guy, broadshouldered, lift the heavy objects for the weaker people type person... I'm frightened of bugs. they just... freak me out. [completely unrelated: I have the tv running, did the slap chop commercial guy seriously say "You'll love my nuts"] Anyway, as I was saying... bugs. My own house has a bazillion grasshoppers under it... I had to get my wife to run a ethernet cord for me... cause I just couldn't manage it.

They are 3 to 4 inches long

I have an odd fear associated with time. Or rather the lack or stoppage of time as it were. I don't recall the technical name for it, and it doesn't come up all that often anyway. Short Story: If I were to say, see a watch that was no longer counting minutes, I have to run to the nearest functioning clock and make sure it's working. My old buddies used to play the meanest pranks on me growing up, pretending that their clocks and watches didn't work and that they were frozen "in time". It's not so bad these days, but I wear a watch all the time, even to bed. I only take it off when I shower.

Truly, a silly phobia.

Oh these days I don't mind. I can shower for the entire length without needing to know what time it is. When I was a kid it was really bad. It's just one of those stupid things you don't know the why or reason to. Previous psychologists have speculated that my fear of time "stopping" may be more linked to a fear of a nothingness, or void. Possibly death as well. Being able to "see time" confirms that one is still moving, living, acting in the world.

"When time ceases, I cease to exsist since I can no longer judge the passing of my mind." I believe is what one doctor said years ago. So maybe I'm more afraid of death then time? I've been in several near-death experiences, and those didn't really bother me much. These days I'm pretty cool, I might check the watch once every five-ten minutes or so.

On another forum a member started a "trypophobia test" thread with a photo. Unwittingly I opened it. I really didn't think it'd be that bad, but I can't even go to onto that board any more. I'm actually starting to itch, alot, just thinking about it.
Worst part is? It wasn't even a real photo. It was a photo shop (a very well done shop job, but a fake none the less). I think it has something to do with things in peoples' skin.

I don't get freaked out if I don't know what time it is, but I have a tendency to look at the time every twenty minutes or so, sometimes less. It's fairly a new compulsion, though, as I didn't start needing to know the time at random moments until I got a watch in high school.

Why did you mention this?

Now that I'm reminded... I have the morbid fascination with looking it up again... but I know that if I do... it will freak me out to no end.

And I will enter some kind of catatonic state...

That's pretty interesting. I have a strange obsession about knowing what time it is, myself. I have to check clocks for no reason.

More obsession or compulsion than phobia, but I'm constantly looking at clocks. Don't wanna be late. I also tend to look at my speedometer a lot. Can't help it. But I'm kind of a mess in a lot of ways. ;)

Don't even get me started on compulsions... I have very very specific ways of doing almost everything... I can even tell you the exact motions I use while brushing my teeth...(and they are always exactly the same)

I'm not that bad, but I've got some nutty things I simply must do. And I can't understand why people don't do things the way I do. Cuz my ways are better. (Yeah, not true - but you tell that to my brain. ;)) Luckily none of my craziness really impacts my life. My SAD (Social, not seasonal - and self-diagnosed) occasionally bugs me, but generally I can cope.

I can see Z_B at work looking at the clock waiting for his day to get over.

Oh, I'd never question Walter. He'd make a big fuss about it needing to be official if I was officially contesting his official count of the time (which I would need to do since this official only hears official complaints about official matters) and that means paperwork. And lots of it. I just don't like doing all that paperwork so I pretty much leave ol' Walt (don't tell him I called him Walt!) alone.
