| #1JohnLynchJul 22, 2008 21:38:42 | So inspired from the FFXIII multiplatform thread, I was wondering if anyone here is intending to skip the Xbox360/PS3/Wii consoles and wait for the Xbox720/PS4/Wii2 consoles? As much as I love final fantasy and would love to get FFXIII, the latest consoles just aren't worth it for me. Neither of them. Not when I have: * FF Origins * FFIV - FFVI * FFVIII * Saga Frontier 2 * Alundra 2 * Legend of Mana * Kartia * Front Mission 3 * Breath of Fire IV * FFXII * Breath of Fire V * Wild Arms 3 to finish playing. Even when I do finish them, I want to buy: * Suikoden IV * Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose * Grandia II * Legaia 2 * Phantom Brave * Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories * Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King * Shadow Hearts: Covenant * Shadow Hearts: From the New World * Wild Arms 4 * Wild Arms 5 * Suikoden Tactics * Suikoden V before I move onto the latest consoles. I'd have to finish the games at a quicker rate of 2 per year to need to buy into this console edition. So what about anyone else? Skipping over this latest generation? |
| #2pigknightJul 22, 2008 22:15:47 | I have a Wii so I don't think I can. |
| #3Mad_JackJul 23, 2008 2:13:01 | I bought a second hand Playstation 2 about a year and a half after it came out. I've considered buying a P3, but only really for the latest GTA, and it's not worth paying that much for something I don't really use all that frequently. I just can't justify spending that much on a game system, especially since most of the bells and whistles on the latest gen consoles (online capability, dvd, 80gb hard drive, etc...) are of no real use to me. |
| #4chapienJul 24, 2008 21:36:51 | To late for me. i have a Wii, Xbox 360, and a PS3. So what. Sue me:P |
| #5Mournblade94Jul 25, 2008 15:00:57 | I have a Wii and XBOX 360. You should not skip this generation it will be out for a while. These platforms are amazing. I still occasionally play KOTOR, and Morrowwind but I have trouble playing XBOX games now, they just cannot to enough or are not convenient enough to do the actions you want. My first gaming system was the Brown and gold intellivision, and I have had at least one of each generation since. Incidentally my birthday was the day PONG was released. I find it funny that I literally grow up with the video games. The XBOX 360 is worth it for MASS EFFECT and OBLIVION. Plus if you are a star wars fan you will miss out on FORCE UNLEASHED. THis fall has some good games coming out as well. FALLOUT 3 for one. |
| #6Mournblade94Jul 25, 2008 15:02:57 | I bought a second hand Playstation 2 about a year and a half after it came out. If you still want a next gen, buy the XBOX360 ARCADE. It has less storage memory, but the processor is the same so it will run all of the games. It will run you about as much as the wii. |
| #7minesrilJul 26, 2008 3:19:58 | I will stop playing my Wii when I get bored of playing mario kart. Never, then. |
| #8dalzigJul 26, 2008 3:32:03 | I had a Wii on launch. Got tired after playing the whole 3 games I wanted. Metroid and Mario took too damn long to come out. So about 6 months after launch, sold all my Wii stuff on Ebay making all the money back that I spent on it. Spent that money on my first college payment. ![]() So now I live 8/12 months in a dorm, where on my floor there's 5 Xbox360s, 1 Wii, 2 PS3s, lots of PS2, SNES, and NES. So basically... I'm mooching on this generation. :D I have it figured out though. About the time I graduate, and start making above minimum wage, Microsoft and possibly Nintendo will be rolling out the next generation. Also at that time, the PS3 will finally hit its perfect stride, like the PS2 did a year or two ago. So I'll be able to catch up on games I've missed and be able to afford the $1000 gaming systems. I have it all planned out! :evillaugh |
| #9minuetJul 26, 2008 15:37:36 | I'm just going to wait until the PS3 price drops into a managable range (for me), maybe. I have a 360 and the exclusives for the PS3 aren't that interesting to me, thus far, particularly with FFXIII coming to the 360. I'm just hoping FFXIII is better than XII... |
| #10JohnLynchJul 27, 2008 2:27:31 | You should not skip this generation it will be out for a while. Sure, but I've got enough unfinished games to last me to the new generation. |
| #11roxlimnJul 30, 2008 11:48:03 | 1:1 Wiimote motion sensing. Star Wars: Lightsaber Duels. 'Nuff said. |
| #12_jayne_cobb_Jul 30, 2008 12:12:20 | To late for me. i have a Wii, Xbox 360, and a PS3. So what. Sue me:P AH, the old PSWii60. Nice. |
| #13_jayne_cobb_Jul 30, 2008 12:13:33 | Sure, but I've got enough unfinished games to last me to the new generation. I've got enough unread books to last me from now till doomsday but I'll never stop buying books. |
| #14kittenstewJul 30, 2008 14:07:35 | AH, the old PSWii60. Nice. Jayne: The days of me taking you seriously are definitely coming to a middle. |
| #15ranger_regJul 30, 2008 18:25:13 | I bought a second hand Playstation 2 about a year and a half after it came out. Well, I wouldn't mind trying it online but I don't know if I meet the minimum bandwidth (mine is 3Mbps). I want to know from avid PS3 enthusiasts, do you really need a bigger hard drive? And one more thing, can you install inside a car and play (well your backseat passengers will) while the car is in motion? |
| #16JohnLynchJul 30, 2008 20:48:57 | I've got enough unread books to last me from now till doomsday but I'll never stop buying books. Heh, I had that problem a couple of years ago. I actually did stop buying books until I finished them ;) I've finally reached the stage where I have read all my books, but now I'm too busy buying comics and D&D products, so I'm exhausting my local library of all of its readable content. |
| #17Cpt_MichaJul 30, 2008 20:53:52 | I have a 50 percent or higher completion rate for most of my games on a given console. This number would be higher except for my old genesis games (which I'd still play if I still had the console..... that's another story though *Sigh*) and my Ps1 games. A new console doesn't prevent you from playing an older one. I've been hellbent on finishing Final Fantasy 12, even though I've got a 360. I play both, I find both have their advantages. And a good game is that, a good game. It stands the test of time and new consoles *L* |
| #18pigknightJul 30, 2008 22:08:34 | I don't like XBox (360), 'cause playing with the standard controller is like playing with a brick. |
| #19Cpt_MichaJul 30, 2008 23:18:53 | How so? I find it ergonomic myself. I like it better than the Ps2s. (and that was my favorite controller) And certainly better than the Ps3s. |
| #20pigknightJul 31, 2008 0:21:23 | Have they changed the 360 controller 'cause I thought it was just a white XBox controller. |
| #21farmer42_dupJul 31, 2008 2:49:33 | Nah, it's a modified and slightly redesigned Controller S, which was itself a slight redisign of thr Dreamcast's controller. It's about the same size as the DualShock controllers, but with a bit more heft and more plastic under, to be more ergonomic. |
| #22kittenstewJul 31, 2008 13:17:22 | Nah, it's a modified and slightly redesigned Controller S, which was itself a slight redisign of thr Dreamcast's controller. It isn't like those old, clunky original Xbox controllers - Those were pretty aweful. The new ones are very reminiscent of the PS2 dual Shocks, except the D-Pad has been switched with the Analogue stick, and the lower bumpers are actually triggers. Probably my favorite controller to date. |
| #23chapienJul 31, 2008 14:38:23 | AH, the old PSWii60. Nice. Ya... Its pretty sick:D |
| #24shamurai7Jul 31, 2008 21:27:08 | So inspired from the FFXIII multiplatform thread, I was wondering if anyone here is intending to skip the Xbox360/PS3/Wii consoles and wait for the Xbox720/PS4/Wii2 consoles? hah hah thats funny you mention that as i skipped the last generation of consoles...... at times i was very tempted by some of nintendos and sonys games, but when the current generation came out i was rewarded for the wait!!!! i have a ps3 that plays ps3,2,and 1 titles....... and a wii that plays gamecube titles and offers older console titles for download!!!! (also a broken 360 that i own which once had a small spark of last gen support) between the 2 of them its like having a whole vintage through current console collection.. i have been collecting some of the older titles that i wanted and now have a substatial collection. sure, i havent beaten most of them yet, but i have a good track record of finishing games i buy.. and hindsight is 2020 so its much easier to pick out the real "gems" from the last generation. the titles are also cheaper now which saved me a lot of $$$ so in my situation i am not missing out on anything....i hope for your sake that since you plan on skipping that the next gen of consoles offers backwards compatibility for you since there are some real great titles you would miss. |
| #25JohnLynchAug 01, 2008 0:11:08 | i hope for your sake that since you plan on skipping that the next gen of consoles offers backwards compatibility for you since there are some real great titles you would miss. Even if it doesn't, there'll still be 360 and PS3s available to buy as soon as PS4 and XboxNew come out, so I'll be right ;) Although that would be a worst case scenario. |
| #26ranger_regAug 01, 2008 1:25:33 | Even if it doesn't, there'll still be 360 and PS3s available to buy as soon as PS4 and XboxNew come out, so I'll be right ;) Although that would be a worst case scenario. Is there a community of XBOX (sans 360) console users? Or is XBOX (original) pretty much obsolete (unlike PS2)? I hear that PS2 have a shelf life of at least 10 more years, so we may not see PS2 go the way of the dodo, especially since they have introduced new PS2 titles recently at E3 2008. |
| #27shamurai7Aug 01, 2008 13:22:51 | Is there a community of XBOX (sans 360) console users? Or is XBOX (original) pretty much obsolete (unlike PS2)? not that im aware of....and im pretty deep into the whole gaming scene. only ones still using their box are the ones who cant afford new consoles. none of my buddies even touch their old xbox's anymore. The sad thing is i dont ever foresee it being a collectors item like the dreamcast, or the old sega or nintendo. They are getting stored in closets are being thrown away like dirty toiletpaper. for the most part the original box is dead as a doornail. they should have supported it for 3 or 4 more years. thats bad juju. |
| #28ranger_regAug 04, 2008 0:06:49 | To late for me. i have a Wii, Xbox 360, and a PS3. So what. Sue me:P Sue you? If you're rich enough to buy all those consoles, you're rich enough to afford a team of lawyers. ![]() |
| #29ranger_regAug 04, 2008 0:08:46 | not that im aware of....and im pretty deep into the whole gaming scene. Gee, I hope that is not a sting against those who have a deficiency on disposable income. |
