May 02, 2013 12:49:28 Man, snake bites would suck a lot less if necrotoxin wasn't so common. Swallowing your food whole, though, kinda makes it a nice trick to have. Hemotoxin and neurotoxin don't scare me nearly as much as necrotoxin. Like, surviving a snake bite is hard enough without having to deal with massive potential for infection and major loss of tissue. I've seen bite victims' scars that'll make you never wanna walk in the woods again. I mean, shark bite level of tissue loss. It's kwazy.

EDIT: Oh yeah, in the one article I saw about this it mentioned how the fangs went through his boot. Not much you can do about that.

May 02, 2013 18:33:08 We have a venom unit down here as part of the fire rescue department. When I was working with the fire department, they brought the venom unit in for some training. We got to see pics of a guy who got bitten by a teipan on 9/11. That was pretty disturbing. We also got to see pics of another guy who got bitten by a ppygmy rattle snake. The guy waited a few days to get treatment. He lost a few fingers.

We have a venom unit down here as part of the fire rescue department. When I was working with the fire department, they brought the venom unit in for some training. We got to see pics of a guy who got bitten by a teipan on 9/11. That was pretty disturbing. We also got to see pics of another guy who got bitten by a ppygmy rattle snake. The guy waited a few days to get treatment. He lost a few fingers.

Yeah, waiting to seek treatment is a terrible idea. I think they used to have a TV show about the venom unit down there. I remember seeing something about some dood what handles dangerous reptiles for a living or whatever (I'm pretty sure he was also the dood **** used for venemous snake stuff). Anyhoo, he was putting one of his snakes away and he tossed the head down into its box to keep from getting bit. He didn't get it far enough, though, and the thing whipped out and bit him on the stomach. The wound that left was nothing short of horrific.

Indeed. A decent sausage is definitely a good choice of food. Haggis is also quite tasty.

That's why I edited haggis in. I've only had it once (as said, quite tasty stuff), so proper sausage came to mind first.
